Why would it be Earthbound: Mother 2 instead of Mother 2: Earthbound?

Anyway, as this thread has been going, the only way this would matter is if all 3 games had a re-release in NA.
Even then, they still might simply release them as "Mother, Earthbound, Mother 3."

After all, Square Enix re-released FFII (US) as FFII for the NA VC, instead of retitling it to FF IV.
And then we have FF I & II: Dawn of Souls, which contains a localization of the real FFII.

Nintendo does not allow changes to VC games. Or if they do, it costs. It's not like it was an artistic decision to keep the old name of FF4.
