Ralizah

An increasingly difficult prospect.

Cuphead
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
The Great Ace Attorney Chronicles
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Monster Hunter Rise + Sunbreak
Shin Megami Tensei V
Super Mario Odyssey
Triangle Strategy
Valkyria Chronicles 4
Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Persona 5 Royal would probably be on the list if I hadn't played it (and the original release) to death on PS4. I don't even own the Switch version, so I can't, in good faith, include it.

Currently Playing: Yakuza Kiwami 2 (SD)

I can second that. My personnel list changes like every 5 minutes.

Polvasti

Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Ikenfell
Link's Awakening
Monster Hunter Rise
Nier: Automata
Nobody Saves the World
Octopath Traveller
Snipperclips Plus
Steamworld Dig 2
Xenoblade Chronicles

I think it would work better (and be easier) if we only listed games that you can ONLY play on switch.

I fear no man
but that thing:
The carrot minigame from bowser's inside story
it scares me

Polvasti

@WaffleBoat Yeah, I guess that makes sense. If we're talking about Switch exclusives only, my top 10 would be:

Age of Calamity
Astral Chain
Breath of the Wild
Captain Toad
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Fire Emblem Engage
Snipperclips Plus
Super Mario Odyssey
Xenoblade Chronicles
Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Polvasti

Leaving out ports/remakes:
1. Metroid Dread
2. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Shredder's Revenge
3. Monster Hunter: Rise
4. Luigi's Mansion 3
5. Super Mario Odyssey
6. Streets of Rage 4
7. Kirby and the Forgotten Land
8. Bayonetta 3
9. No More Heroes 3
10. Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

I mostly play local multiplayer games (7 of my top 10), but it's a solo game at the top.

Breath of the Wild
Unravel Two
Full Metal Furies
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Super Mario Odyssey
Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons
Downwell
Hidden in Plain Sight
Conduct Together!
Death Squared

There aren't many more games I'd give 8/10 or more, so a Switch-exclusives list would be quite short. Lots of 7/10s though!

1) Super Mario Maker 2 - limitless fun. I've played for years and not even slightly tired of it.
2) Animal Crossing New Horizons - maybe it was just 2020 circumstances, but I played 100s of hours and this game will always have a place in my heart.
3) Tetris Effect - the most hypnotic game I have ever played.
4) Kirby and the Forgotten Land -easily best Kirby game.
5) Pokemon Legends Arceus - my favorite Pokemon game. I never knew before this that I wanted to be terrified while playing Pokemon.
6) Super Mario 3D World + Bowsers Fury - My favorite 3D Mario game. I think it combines the best of 2D and 3D Mario.
7) A short Hike - just an absolutely sweet lovely indie which hits the heart strings.
8) Rogue Legacy - The most addicted I've been to a rogue-lite since childhood. I especially love all the silly platforming combos you can string together like double dash + triple jump.
9) Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker - Just well crafted fun simple puzzles. Not really addictive but just always a pleasure to play.
10) Glyph - possibly the most underrated platformer I've ever played. Absolutely gorgeous graphics and insane 500 meters away precision 3D platforming which seems like it shouldn't work but somehow feels absolutely natural once you get used to it. And an actual truly enjoyable boss at the end.

@FishyS Nice list. Two thumbs up from me. I haven't really gotten into Glyph yet, felt a bit slippery to me on first impressions; got nowhere with Rogue Legacy yet; and yet to try Tetris Effect, but I enjoyed the mix and descriptions in your post, thanks.

Captain Toad is just irresistible, isn't it. I haven't finished it on any platform, but I've bought it on Wii U, 3DS and Switch cos it's just a delight.

You know, looking at all these lists, it's crazy how many have botw at #1. Really shows how great the game is.

moomin

In terms of exclusives/former-exclusives

Mario Odyssey
Kirby & the Forgotten Land
Picross Genesis & Master System edition
Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition
Monster Hunter Rise
Bravely Default II
Theaterhythm: Bar Line (not exclusive but whatever)
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Metroid Dread
Breath of the Wild

There's man all over for you, blaming on his boots the faults of his feet.

moomin

I haven't had a chance to play Astral Chain and Bayonetta 3 but I imagine those would crack the top 10

And Xenoblade Chronicles 3

@gcunit Captain Toad is the only game on my top-10 list I haven't really beaten. I basically have been doing an incredibly slow 100% run over the span of years, playing a level or two every once in awhile and feeling satisfied for another gap of time.

As for Glyph I guess I can understand why it didn't sell well because even for me it took a while to really get into the controls. I thought it was weirdly slippery at first as well. At some point after a couple hours it just all clicked for me though. I don't know many people who have played it so I don't know if that is typical or just me.

This thread is interesting because although a lot of the games in people's top-10 correspond to top-rated games, it's not quite exact; we all have some 'usual suspect' Nintendo exclusives but almost all of the lists have some less obvious games as well.

@Polvasti I'm happy to see Link's Awakening on one of these lists; it didn't end up on mine, but I considered it. I know it is heresy, but that game is my favorite Zelda game on Switch (for what it's worth, I'm not counting NSO games).

HeavyMetalWario64DS

10. Pokemon Shining Pearl
9. Pokemon Shield
8. GRIP: Combat Racing
7. Golf Story
6. Doom (2017)
5. Elder Scrolls V Skyrim
4. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
1. Mario Odyssey
1. Smash Ultimate
1. Metroid Dread

I'm including every game you can buy/download (Eshop) for Switch, with the exception of the NSO games. Also, I have had to have played the game for a while, and on Switch in the case of a remake or multiplatform game. Due to this I was unable to include Mario 3D World, as I've beaten the Wii U version, but only played a few levels on a friend's Switch. I'd put it at 4 or 5, possibly tied with Mario Kart.

jump

@gcunit yeah I'd second/third the love for Captain Toad. It's taken Ninty's most mastered genre and gone "hmm...what if we take away the ability to jump" the most standard of actions from the genre and still produced something excellent.

Loads of solid titles on Switch. This is my top 10:

10. Yoku's Island Express
Pinball metroidvania, very unique. Plus, it gives me DKC vibes with its music.

9. Infernax
One of the best retro inspired 2d action games. I'd say a hidden gem.

8. Downwell
Amazing music. Very addictive gameplay loop. Very cheap. You do want a Flipgrip though

7. Celeste
Great platformer that challenges you, but is forgiving at the same time. Makes you want to keep trying.

6. Metroid Dread
The Metroid formula pretty much perfected. Hard, but great boss fights.

5. Luigi's Mansion 3
Amazing graphics, like an interactive animated movie.

4. DKC: Tropical Freeze
Modern 2d platforming perfection. Beautiful to look at. Nails ape movement

3. MK 8 DX
So many courses and almost every one of them is awesome.

2. Super Mario Odyssey
So many ideas, so much fun, proofs Nintendo is still the master of 3d platformers.

1. Zelda: botw
Truly special. I've seen kids grow up with this game. Game of the generation, for sure.

It’s sad to see how underrated smash ultimate is on this forum

It's in a third of the lists. I think the only games which show up more often are BotW, Odyssey, Mario Kart, 3D World + Bowsers Fury, and Metroid Dread, most of which are in your top 10 also. There are just a lot of games.

Personally I've never played smash ultimate but I think Mario Maker 2 is very underrated.
