Imho they should drop the price by 20% on everything, games, console, accessoires and it will be fine, fair and acceptable and nobody will complain. And they will still make huge profits. They are producing at foxconn, its a chinese company which will probably not pay ridiculous amounts of money to its employees (I guess most of us have heard about working conditions at foxconn). So lets be wise here and set an example, no matter how ridiculous this may sound to you. Buying it day-one doesnt bring any benefits, not at this prices and certainly not with this launch line-up.

£10 off Amazon UK if you spend over £50 - so I just got Zelda on Switch plus a litter picker (the cheapest thing I could find that I actually quite need!) for £40.89 😎
Enter "BIGTHANKS" on checkout. Believe me it works!

Its not about the money or if you obligated to buy accessoires. In all honesty, I could afford it. But can everyone?

No, but those who can't afford it are probably more concerned about a lot of other issues. In a lot of cases it is about prioritizing, not being able or willing to prioritize your money on a gaming console is not the end of the world.

Is it fair?

Do you think capitalism is fair? If yes, then yes, this is fair. If no, then it is not. I think it is fair, because it isn't a right to afford playing video games. I also think more people can afford this than for example a N64 with games and accessories back in the day.

Andrzej777 wrote:

Do you really think that?

Yes. Yes I do.

How in the world did anyone got screwed over by the Wii U?

How was the console abandoned? If you mean that they are releasing a new console, then I hate to break it to you, but that has been the practice since the NES. And the Wii U has had a little over 4 years. You got your money's worth. If you didn't, then I guess Nintendo isn't your cup of tea.

Andrzej777 wrote:

And now they want to charge ridiculous money for each and everything. I don't understand how people cannot understand that.

I don't understand how you can't understand that more people are able to afford more things every year in most of the world. Yes, there are people who can't have nice things. That sucks, but there is little a business can do about that. Besides Nintendo games have never been less expensive when adjusting for inflation and increased median income.

This is a product which might seem good but also comes with a lot of inconveniences when given some thought. Not everyone can afford that, and I feel for those people who would like to buy something nice for their kids (yes, I believe the switch would be very nice for kids) and cannot afford it or just shy away because of hidden costs or just have to put up with the fact that you have to keep investing more and more without getting more content out of it. This is not fair IMHO.

You seem to have a problem with poverty. Which is good, we should all have a problem with that, but you have to realize that Nintendo aren't responsible for poverty? They can't make their business decisions based on the fact that somewhere there are people who can't afford their product. And why should they? You talk about fairness, but would it be fair to sell the system at a loss? Would it be fair to sell games at a loss? Now, I know that's not what you are asking Nintendo to do, but come on! They are a business, they need to make money, and you know why? Because they employ people. Lots of people who without a job would be poor and then be unable to buy Nintendo products, which would be unfair according to you.

After screwing up with the wii u (especially) and letting their consumers down (I am not sure, most fans will have realized that, at all) they should have made a comeback which will ensure the greates success for their new console and make up for the whole wii u disaster/failure (which it was due to their ill-conceived planning).
I am just trying to make people aware, that this might be a great product, but not at the given prices and policies. We are the consumers, we can decide and put pressure on a company and thats what we should do. And it will definitely have an effect. We should not stoop low and accept everyting for granted and pay whatever we are asked to pay. Its their decision making that has an effect on the success of their console and not our paying for their mistakes. Nintendo is making huge mistakes with their pricing policy and we need to teach them a lesson - we need to tell them that they should rethink and do better and not cheap ous out - because that what they are trying to do here. If people have the money to buy it, great, I do, too. But I will not buy it because it doesnt feel right to me, not at this prices. Thats what I am trying to make people aware of and the more people will understand the more will nintendo get down from the high horse they think they are sitting on and adjust and deliver a product will satisfy a lot of people. Its not about complaining but about making a change. Its not like that they couldnt afford to offer better prices and thats what I feel offended about. An underdog company should have a different approach. An underdog like nintendo should offer something better in order to make up for their mistakes and ill-conceived ideas. I really hope people will come to their senses and act accordingly, thats what WE consumers and fans should do - for the betterment of Nintendo. Think about it!

Okay, I'll just take this in one bite. Yes, we can use our consumer power to get a point across. We can boycott Nintendo in hopes that things will get better, but you know what? Some of us are actually happy with what Nintendo are doing. I know for sure that I am. Sure, there have been moments where I haven't been fully satisfied, but I can hardly remember the last time I was displeased with a Nintendo product. Okay, I can, Wind Waker HD is boring. But that is besides the point, because I am able to recognize that Wind Waker HD wasn't for me. There are still plenty of people who enjoyed it, and I am happy for them. Next time I'll hopefully not make the same mistake. When it comes to the Switch though, I don't think my purchase is a mistake in any way. Yes, I have to prioritize in order to buy the games I want, but that's okay. Some of my friends go shopping for clothes, some go out for drinks every weekend, and I use my money to buy video games. That is okay. And to me the Switch seem to easily be worth the cost. There have never been this many games released during a consoles first year that I wanted. I get Breath of the Wild, Super Bomberman R, Arms, Splatoon 2 and Mario Odyssey. I'll probably get Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Fire Emblem Warriors as well. That's at least 4 Nintendo titles I'll definitely buy, and two I might in under 10 months. I don't think that ever has happened before for the same system.

To sum it all up: I look forward to the Switch. I think it is reasonably priced. If you don't want it don't get it. And for pete's sake stop making flawed subjective arguments over and over again. The Switch and its games might be the most affordable Nintendo system ever when considering inflation and median pay raise, so just give it a rest unless you can come up with a proper objective argument.

I'm sorry if I seem harsh, but I'm sick of these discussions that leads to nothing more than a whine-fest and you are not the only person this concerns at all, you just happened to be the one I felt like responding to.

Well-said. Thanks for typing that up. I had some pretty similar thoughts in response to that guy.

Don't buy a Switch if it's too expensive for you. Simple. It's a nice system that has a lot of cool features and is the most powerful handheld ever that also doubles as a console, and so it is priced accordingly. It's like if I started boycotting car companies that sell cars outside of my price range. Yeah, the cars are too expensive for me, but there's a good reason for that, and I shouldn't be upset that I can't buy cars from them. It isn't their fault that I don't have the funds. The same logic should be applied here.

Most things can be viewed from different angles and different words can be used to describe the same thing.
I actually care about the switch. I want nintendo to bring out good games and not abandon the console again after 4 years because it wasnt the moneymaking success they had hoped for. That was my concern. If they go down with the price they will be better off.

The only thing that surprises me price-wise, is the fact that Nintendo didn't try to price the Switch more aggressively. It's just not feasible for families to purchase multiple Switch units at the current asking price. I'm by no means suggesting that the Switch doesn't provide value for money relative to the other consoles. Hell, the Switch provides something that no other device on the market is offering, just as the Wii U and the 3DS have had something completely unique to offer when they were initially released (and still do).

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"
