It looks like a complete breath of fresh air for the series. The music, the art direction and the level design all look like they're back to the glory days!

Love the new art style. Looooooooong overdue after 17 years of nothing but "New" Super Mario Bros. games (which wore out its novelty after the Wii instalment).
My only disappointment is that Elephant Mario didn't blow his trumpet before the closing transition. 0/10 to the marketing department for that blunder.

Looks like they understood the appeal of the orginal Mario games and are getting back to it. Eating psychedelic mushrooms and making yourself big and small as you gaze on how weird the world is. They just need to get Pink Floy and King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard on the soundtrack for a proper trip!
Not only did they go all in with the weird character models in the RPG remake, they also went with the Nintendo Power clay graphics here. It’s nice to see Nintendo experiment a bit with Mario.
This looks properly weird - I don't really know exactly what any of the new powerups/mechanics do or why there are talking flowers everywhere, and I love it. (Ok, the talking flowers seem like they could get annoying. But we'll see.)
I'm super happy that Nintendo seems to be taking the criticisms of the "New" series to heart. This game has a new art style, new powerups, crazy new level and enemy designs, new characters... everything new! Genuinely "new" and super creative. I love how it's leaning into a really weird yet lighthearted tone.
And the art style is just gorgeous. It's super colorful, and it makes the character models really stand out. And we only have to wait a couple of months to get our hands on it!
Definitely the highlight of the Direct for me. I cannot wait to see a new 2D Mario game that just goes crazy with new ideas and themes.
