Basically why is it that Namco is still trying to push a failed reboot that's done nothing but made this character irrelevant now? It's honestly is heart shattering considering Pac-Man World 3 was probably the last good adventure/platforming game starring him... And that was 2005. Pac-Man was a platforming pioneer, Pac-Land was the game that paved the very way for SMB... Just... What happened?
And what's sadder is while I can see Mario, Sonic, and Mega Man having spiritual successors if they ever are to fall ((Giana Sisters, Freedom Planet, Shovel Knight/Mighty No 9)) there doesn't seem to be hope for Pac-Man.
Gone are the days of Pac-Man World... Nothing but a memory now. A dark age that will last at least longer than any drought Sonic had. I doubt that dark age is ending even when the NX is out.
Is there even any hope we can see him return to his 1999-2005 glory days?
((Second attempt since having links apparently isn't allowed))

Super Mario Bros. came out before Pac-Land. I never saw Pac-Man as a Platforming Pioneer, more like it was Namco's attempt to make Pac-Man more like Mario. Mario 64 was successful, lets make Pac-Man in a 3D Platforming game.

Pac-Man's core gameplay goes back to arcade games. Quick games that was a test of your skill and luck. Pac-Man was a game of going through a maze and trying to find all the treasure (dots) before the ghost got you. Arcade games aren't really popular, most people expect a lot more out of a game now. Hence the reason why they tried to force Pac-Man into platforming.

Pac-Land was released in 1984 on arcade cabinets to be precise, Just letting you know. The games... Were more or less the "Other M"s of Pac-Man platformers if you ask me as it wasn't terrible but it lacked the soul the previous games gave it...
Plenty of people like me consider the TV Show Johnny Test-Tier garbage but to each their own I guess. I just see plenty of people who dislike it, as in a fairly good chunk.

Isn't the cartoon doing decent? I don't know, I don't stay on top of that, but I think it is still running.
It seems to be on hiatus right now, since I heard it hasn't been airing since April last year and all the sites I've looked it up on like IMDB don't list any sort of end year (ex: IMDB, which says "2013-") http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2392179/
Not ten mention that, apparently, a Christmas themed episode aired in Canada back in December, but not in the US. Who knows what's going on?
Today I learned that Pac-Land came out before Super Mario Bros. I really liked Pac-Land, but always saw the non-maze games as spinoffs. The Pac-Man World games never appealed to me because I don't like the look of the character. I did enjoy Pac-Man Championship Edition DX. I'd be up for a Pac-Land 2 with nice hand-drawn graphics and simultaneous multiplayer. Pac-Man really suits a Tyrolean hat. A Paper Mario cute RPG would be cool too, but only with nice hand-drawn graphics and a Tyrolean hat.
Not as popular as Mario 64 per say but it was still fairly acclaimed. Let alone it was rated top hits on each of the 3 systems at the time - With the GCN version of World 2 becoming players choice.
I just don't think Pac-man will ever be anything more than a generic clone until they go back to its roots and develop a game rooted in the core gameplay of the original. Not sure that that could be a "full-retail" release since video game structure and expectation with regards what should be "tripple-A" have evolved in a different direction, but at least it could be Pac-Man again and not just a knock-off.
Maybe an e-shop download with Pac-man in a layered 3D maze or in a game like Klonoa where he eats re-spawning dots to get power-ups to solve problems, get through doors/gates and progress etc. (or maybe a game where he lives in a rotating (inside-out/outside-in) 3D M.C. Escher type world).
Having said that, while Pac-man's still got such huge brand recognition, Saturday morning cartoons etc. I guess we'll just keep getting the generic knock-offs of the Super Mario 3D series.
