hi guys, i need some help, i want to make a family plan with my partners, so i looked for a cheap subscription and i found a code for europe, and my plan is to make a new account to redeem the membership and add me and my partners, but the question here is: do we need to change our accounts to europe or we can stay in our region (LATAM)??

If using a download code for software/DLC, you’ll definitely need to be a part of that region, and I assume that a European NSO code would function in more or less the same fashion, but I could be wrong.

Perhaps others can shed some light on whether it is possible to share family subscriptions with people from other regions.

"Gee, that's really persuasive. Do you have any actual points to make other than to essentially say 'me Tarzan, physical bad, digital good'?"

@dmcc0 i saw that thread, but i don't feel very secure bc the thread is from almost 3 years ago and i think that maybe is more restricted, but i think it works so i'll do it

@Sonixaxel There was a more recent discussion I remember - from just after the NSO expansion was released and it may have not had a thread of it own, might've been the regular NSO thread or something, but there were a few users from different regions joining. I think @Eel, or @JaxonH were part of it and might be able to confirm (sorry folks for tagging you if it wasn't - it was definitely some 'regulars')

@dmcc0 okay, the last thing, if i'm going to redeem the code, my switch also needs to be in europe region? or only the account?

@Sonixaxel I've only ever bought games from different regions, not redeemed codes, but as long as the region of the card matches the eShop region I don't think the Switch region matters.
To be sure you could always just redeem the code via web browser rather than on the Switch.

I think your eshop region has to match the redeem code for the NSO subscription. Perhaps someone else here, may know that part? (If a redeem code fails because your eshop region doesn't match, I don't think anything bad will happen. I believe the code should still be valid until it is properly redeemed. We've had game developers offer redeem codes for games, and if the redeem code failed in another region, it still worked later in the correct region.)

In case you're new to the Switch, eshop region is determined by the region you select on your Nintendo account on nintendo's website - nowhere else. **If you do change eshop regions, make sure you don't have unspent money on your eshop, because when you change eshop regions, you will lose any unspent money, and there's no way to get it back.

In the end, after you've redeemed your Nintendo Switch Online subscription, your account keeps the subscription even if you change your ehsop region later. So, if you wanted to change your ehsop region later, you can.🌈 Just be sure there's no unspent money left on your eshop.

@WoomyNNYes I'm almost certain the card has to match the region - I've bought quite a few from my own region online at the like of Eneba, and they always warn that they are only redeemable in the stated region. I've no idea how the EU ones work though - I guess as long as the store is in Euros maybe? OP says they are creating a Euro account to redeem anyway so shouldn't be an issue.

@dmcc0 though we’re in different countries (Mexico and the United States), we still are in the same region (North America). So I’m not sure if our case applies here.

ok, i just redeemed the subscription and it went very well!! the switch doesn't need to match the region of the account. To avoid the problem of change the region, the account with the subscription will stay in the europe region and i invited my friends and myself to the family group with no issue, thanks to everyone who helped me, dmcc0 especially, and woomy to clarify the points to do it ^u^

@Sonixaxel That's common misunderstanding. I made the same mistake.

While there is a region setting in the Switch console settings, it has NO affect on your eshop region or purchases. I'm not even sure what it does. It almost does nothing.

Your eshop region is determined by the region selected in your Nintendo account on Nintendo's website. This is the only place you can set/change your eshop region (Country/region of residence).

DLC does matter for the Region setting in your NSO account if you plan to use EU DLC you account must be in EU TimeZone for DLC to work. Same for NA DLC must be in a NA TimeZone for DLC to work. This is why I have a Main and Secondary that I can switch Online Account from JPN to EU and back to NA when getting DLC that comes with imported games and same could be true for Digital as well. Then I switch that secondary back to NA Online TimeZone.

@Sonixaxel Glad I could help. Just out of interest, when setting the region did you have to select a specific country or is there a Euro option? Curious as to which eShop you are using for that account.

No idea what the Switch region setting is for either, it's possible that it's just for the time zone. It certainly doesn't make any difference to the eShop account - I've got 5 different region accounts on mine which all access their 'local' eShop

@dmcc0 when i was purchasing the code, the website warned me about the region restriction, it said "EURO", i clicked that word and the website display a list of the countries where you can redeem the code, i picked italy bc i thought it was less trouble, i didn't had one, except for the laguaje change

@Sonixaxel, the problem comes when the DLC is only that language region. Example JPN DLC that is only Voice/TxT in Japanese and if you buy it there is no refund because it was the buyers mistake not the site mistake. So always read and make sure the DLC works for all language or will work in your Language Region. To make it easier to convert language to read easier use Chrome that has language conversion so you can read the translated version. I do that and it helps to know what your buying.

Hi

I need some information, I am located in hong kong, and my switch lite is set to english, with the time set to london, and area to europe, but my nintendo online is in chinese, can it be changed to english.

thanks

kms108

WoomyNNYes

@kms108 When you open the Nintendo Switch Online app on your switch, I believe the language displayed in there is determined by the region/residence you have selected on your nintendo account on nintendo's website. The region/residence selected on your nintendo account also determines the your eshop region + eshop currency + eshop language. I think the only way to see english for your NSO app would be to change your eshop region to an english speaking region.

But don't rush to log into your nintendo account on nintendo's website to change your nintendo account region. There are things you need to know before you go changing eshop region. For instance, unspent money on eshop will be lost if you change eshop region, and there's no way to get that money back. Nintendo Support warns users that a game & it's dlc should be bought from the same region to avoid regional conflict issues. And, eshop regions only accept the currency of the region you have selected.

Thank you for the reply, I actually found out and created a new account for parent control, and online account for location england with English, now I have English, instead of HKD I now have to pay by GBP which is ok, since I live in both Hong Kong and England.

I haven't actually made any payment yet, I'm just a simple player, everything I need is on the cartridges, and the cartridge games sold in Hong Kong is cheaper.
