Topic: Nintendo Subscription worth renewing?

Posts 1 to 20 of 34

Been watching alot of videos on YouTube saying nintendo is going to come out with the next system in 2024? I don't know it that's true or not. Have both subscriptions on oled & lite currently until next month. I'm debating renewing them next month or not. Should I if we have a new game system coming out? Also wondering I nintendo is going keep the subscription thing going for the switch for a while or drop it as soon as the new system is released... 🤷‍♀️ Thanks in advance for any help or advice on this matter~ ✌️

Happy Gaming! (^_^)

Chances are the switch two will probably end up using switch online anyway, but if you don’t play multiplayer all that much or can go without it there’s no need to renew. But seeing ask you are asking I think you do so I would say keep it.

Plus the things about the switch is just a guess imo, keeps guessing and you will eventually get it right, odds are it will though but personally I think it will be late 2024 when no one can get it because it will be scalped.

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

If you play online co-op or multiplayer often and/or really enjoy NSO's retro offerings? Sure.

If you don't enjoy either of those things, you can skip it.

@Barbiegurl777 Yeah, Nintendo hasn't said a word about their next console just yet, so they're not done with the Switch. Given how hugely popular the Switch has been since its launch, I would think that their next console would be a Switch with more powerful hardware and games on a larger scale. Plus backwards compatibility with at least the vast majority of original Switch games. They've done that in the past, we went from Game Boy to Game Boy Advance, Nintendo DS to 3DS, and Wii to Wii U.

So, I would think that Nintendo Switch Online would carry over to the next console, as well. If you like playing online and/or playing the classic games on NSO's multiple game catalogs like the NES, SNES, and Game Boy, then yeah, renew your subscription. Don't forget that NSO lets you back up your save data for the vast majority of games, too. You may want to renew your NSO sub anyway because of that, just in case you lose your Switch somehow. Hope this helped!

I wonder if NSO will translate into the new console, like we dont have to buy a new subscription and it works for both. (I hope so)

Space and Games are similar. Space is endless and new stuff is out there waiting to be discovered. Games are always being made but the creativity is different from one game to another and so many more ideas still haven't been imagined or created yet. (That came out better than expected lol)

I'm really hoping the NSO cloud save will work to transfer saves to the next console.

In terms of the retro games, I can't imagine why they wouldn't make it cross-compatible. They could potentially have a game trial which only works on the new system, but most things aren't very system specific.

Depends how much you rely on the online services. Do you use a lot of online features, multiplayer, retro games? Those Switch game vouchers are a decent offer sometimes.

If so, I'd stick with it. The service is likely to carry over to the next generation - and the console hasn't even been announced yet. We could be six months or a year away...who knows? All we know is that the Switch is slowing down, and something else is coming.

Personally, I've cancelled my subscription and am happy enough with that. But I only liked the occasional Mario Kart race or SNES throwback. You may be more social in your gaming habits haha

Well, my switch went dead and all my save files are stuck into the system cause my subscription ended a month before it happened and I didn't renew it.
So on my experience, I'd always just keep the basic subscription to keep the data.
Now I'm thorn between getting a new one or paying almost the same (I live in Brazil) to get mine fixed to get my save files back 🙃

Save data is kept online for 180 days after your subscription ends

I know. My first handheld was the GBC in 2000 or 2001, then original see through pink GBA, (still have my Crimson red GBA SP), Crimson red ds lite, aqua blue dsi, 2 3ds's, 1 Australian 2ds, & been gaming on the home consoles since 1989 with the NES being my first home console back then, then SNES, N64, PS1, PS2. Had all the handhelds & home consoles since then. 😁🤣 I usually put $50 on the oled for online multi player & my dad loves the virtual consoles. So win win. I like the virtual consoles too but I had all those game systems/ handhelds back then & feel like I already got my use out of them when I played them originally tbh. The SNES was my absolute favorite back then~ 💖 I usually put $20 on the lite for online. I use the virtual console on it here & there~ 🤷‍♀️ Yeah it did help thanks~ 😁🤣👍🤙

Sounds like they will migrate accounts to the next platforms so there should be no loss of access or saved cloud data. This is were one should make sure when they update the system that your Cloud subscription is all there. Just remember there are still games that don't Cloud backup. So if you want your game Cloud backup getting a NSO Subscription will be worth it and if there are multiple family users a family account would be good to have. As if you transfer to new system it requires a NSO account to do game transfer and Subscription for Cloud for Game backups. So one doesn't need to have a Subscription to use a Switch but if you use backup or console transfer having a Subscription to backup cloud games will help so you don't loose game play.

Apologies if I've misinterpreted this, but it sounds like you're paying two subscriptions, one for each console? I'm pretty sure you can use the same account on both consoles so you only have to pay for one subscription.

You can't pay for two different subscriptions unless they have different NSO account attached to them. Otherwise if your paying for more then one NSO subscription then it's best to get a Family subscription that will be cheaper long run. One can use the same account on both consoles not play the same game on both consoles for eShop games that is prohibited.

@Dogorilla

You hit the nail on the head~ 😉🤣👍 I didn't realize about having the same account on both & ended up setting up different accounts on both. Ehh oh well~ 🤣

@SwitchForce

I'd do a family plan subscription but between me being an only child & my dad only occasionally playing the oled on the big screen (tv) it doesn't make sense to me~ 🤷‍♀️ I'm the only one that really does Gaming in the house. Even years ago when I started playing the handhelds. My one cousin knew I played the home consoles years before (snes) & played with me on occasion at my house. It wasn't until I got the game boy color she seemed even remotely interested in gaming the same as me. Then her 2 younger sisters / my 2 younger cousins seemed to have an interest in gaming as well & it was because I playing the rugrat gbc games at the time back then. They later the same year got a gbc & the same rugrats games I had as asking for there birthday presents~ 🤷‍♀️ Alway's the lone gamer in the family. I remember still play snes with Starbrite Sparkles (mechanical light up 90's doll by mattel), Krissy (Special Blessings Christina Prayer doll by Kenner 1987), & Roger Rabbit pull string doll. They were my 3 gaming buddies in the 90's for a long time... 🤷‍♀️🤦‍♀️ Brings back good memories even though to most I'm sure it sounds odd but my dad worked 2 jobs back then & played / did video games when he could with me. My mom hated video games & didn't understand them then or now~ 🤷‍♀️ To clarify 1 thing I know the doll's couldn't actually play the game system with me. We switched game controllers when it was there turn & I basically played twice lol. I always made there turn look bad & me looking with the better score~ 🤣

I did it for two years but stopped after 2021. I don’t play online and don’t care for the selection on the regular or expansion pass. I would rather just own the ACNH and MK8D. I might get it later if there’s something I want to ply online.

Only if you play online. If not I’d say no. I don’t consider NSO a good value.

@Barbiegurl777 That's cool, the Game Boy Color was the first handheld I had as well. It was the grape purple one. I think I got mine in 1998 or 1999. Unfortunately, I lost mine years and years ago, so the oldest handheld I have is the original GBA. I do have a good number of original Game Boy and GBC games downloaded on my 3DS at least, and I do have the NES edition of the GBA SP, as well. The SNES was the first console I've played, thanks to my dad having one in our household. And the Nintendo 64 was the first console I pretty much had to myself. I've been huge into Nintendo ever since.

I'm curious about your two Switch systems. I'm guessing you use both the Switch Lite and Switch OLED, with your dad also playing the latter system for the old-school games on NSO? It sounds like the OLED has the expansion pack subscription, the one that has the N64, GBA, and Sega Genesis games, plus access to DLC for certain games. What games do you like playing online? I remember we've played Animal Crossing: New Horizons together a while back. We got to visit each others' islands and houses, too. It was fun. Anytime, glad I could help.

@Barbiegurl777 It's probably not too late to add your original account to your second Switch. I only have one so I can't explain how to do it but just letting you know it should be possible so you can save a bit of money on subscriptions. Or if you want to keep using both accounts you could get a family subscription so they can share.

Far to simplistic of a opinion here. NSO subscriptions gets you cloud backup and you can order Nintendo store with a account. Cloud backup insure save data isn't lost. Few games don't get cloud but those that do will help when you move from consoles to consoles. And your only paying yearly how can that be too much. I have a family account and it cost far less then most Switch games. Online gaming isn't a good comparisons to use here.

For people who buy digital, vouchers can also make NSO effectively free. There were 4 Nintendo games I couldn't resist buying day-1 in 2023. Paying $20 for NSO saved me $40 on those games.

That said, I love cloud save. I use my Switch lite when I travel and it would be painful to switch back and forth without cloud save. I also enjoy the game trials, although I wish they were a bit more often.
