Topic: New Switch (Non-OLED) HDMI Disconnect Issue

Hey All

Just got my kiddo a Non-OLED Switch. On occasion the HDMI conks out when docked with the TV. Has anyone else had this happen? Ideas on how to fix? Could it be a bad HDMI cord that came with the device?

Nintendo says don't use 3rd party cords. But HDMI is pretty standard, should I try another HDMI cord and see if it still happens?

Suggestions would be great!

@phillycodehound Oh, look at that. Looks like the support page has changed. For 6 years, this troubleshooting page said "reset the AC adapter". I don't see that term now, but the page still suggests a similar process. Basically, "resetting the AC adapter" means, completely unplug & disocnnect the dock and AC adapter for 30 seconds. Then plug them back in. And the issue sould be resolved.

@phillycodehound Regarding third party stuff, Nintendo recommends sticking with Nintendo branded AC adapters & docks. In the early days of the Switch, there were issues with third party docks. Ever since then, most people try to stick with Nintendo branded dock and AC adapter.

You're totally fine to use any HDMI cords you may have.

Forgive my multiple posts.

When you say the "HDMI conks out when docked with the TV", do you mean you lose the image on TV in the middle of while you're playing? If yes, that doesn't sound like the issue that resetting-the-AC-adapter solves. I'm not sure what could cause the switch to stop displaying while you're playing.

If you bought a used switch, I'm wondering if something may be wrong with that Switch - that's just my guess.

To me it sounds like the issue might be with the switch itself or it could also be the dock.

I'm wondering if it's the TV and not the Dock. Because the tv goes blank on occasion but the switch is still working. I wish there was a way to get a replacement dock and not a whole new switch since I don't think it's the console that's the issue.

Ideas? We have a Samsung 55" tv

@phillycodehound Thanks for the update! Since that link has multiple solutions on that page, do you have any idea what the solutions may have solved your issue? I'm very curious.

(Side note: Historically, speaking, calling nintendo support (US) & getting someone helpful on the phone was surprisingly easy from 2016-2019 (if you say "representative"). Their support was pleasant and impressive, believe it or not. Since the pandemic ended, I don't know if they're are back to being as great as they were. If you end up in a bind again, I'd say try them.)
