Topic: Move only one game to a new SD card

Hi,

I have quite a few games on my switch.

Unfortunatly, there is not enough space left to make the latest Fortnite update.

So I would like to move Fortnite (and all its data) to a new SD card.

Is it possible ? And if so, how can I do it ? I only found options to move all data from one SD to another, but I just want to move only one game.....

Hi,

OK. For some reason I don't see @WoomyNNYes answer on the forum, only in email, so I hope you'll see my answer to your very helpful comment.

To make sure I understand, you are suggesting that I delete (or Archive) Fortnite on SD Card (A), and then I remove SD Card (A), insert SD card (B) and redownload Fortnite, then only play Fortnite when SD Card (B) is inserted.

What I'm guessing will happen is I'll see Fortnite tile wether SD Card (A) or (B) is inserted, but I should only play and download future Fortnite updates on SD Card (B), is that correct ?

@AlloNinouMany I suspect they may have deleted the comment after the response by @kaisu above as it's no longer appearing for me either.

@AlloNinouMany I deleted my comment after Kaisu posted. 2018 was the last time I upgraded to a new card, and I moved all my games. I don't know about transferring a single game, possible or not.... it may be possible, but I've never delved into it.

But I get the feeling you may be worrying about something you don't have to worry about. The switch system is very dummy proof. If you're worried that your game is on internal memory, and future updates will be stored separately to the micro sd, the switch doesn't seem to care if all your game, updates, dlc are all in one place - it will still run the game. As it is, if you have any game on a cartridge, all updates & dlc are stored separately on switch internal memory or micro sd card. The switch doesn't care if the game is split up & saved in multiple places.

If you're concern is performace, and you want the best performace of a game, there may be a slight, slight, very slight advantage to having the game stored on internal memory. But I think the advantage may be debatable.

I'm into Rocket League. Wanting that best performance edge I can possibly have, I removed my micro sd card so Rocket League would download & save to switch internal memory. After the game was installed, I put the micro sd card back into the switch. (When a micro sd card is inserted, it becomes the default place to store new games, updates, dlc.) If a game is already stored on internal memory, I dont' know if future Rocket League patches & content updates are stored on internal memory with the rest of the game, or stored separately on micro sd. I don't know enough to answer that kind of granular detail.

Edit: I'll also add, if there is a performance advantage to having Rocket League on my internal memory, it's not anything my human senses can perceive.

Got you @WoomyNNYes Thanks for taking the time to answer again

I'm not really worried about loosing data, I just want to make sure I don't have all data from all games on SD card (B) cause it's the same size as SD card (A) which would make the new SD kind of useless.

I'll try what I mentionned, delete the game with SD (A) inserted, remove it, insert SD (B) and re-dowload it, without re-downloading any other games.

Hope it'll do the trick.

Yeah, this will work.
