Previously assumed, but finally happy to officially have all the classic Metal Gear games coming to Switch. Personally, I don't have a lot of affinity for these games. Most of my interest is with the eventual release of Peace Walker with volume two of this collection, probably early next year. But hey, I acknowledge that many folks will be happy with this announcement.
Switch Physical Collection - 1,251 games (as of April 24th, 2024)

Why are we not getting the “definitive” versions (twin snakes, substance and subsistence)? Wouldn’t that make a lot more sense especially how archaic mgs 1 control scheme is compared to the other 2?!
I haven't played much of this series and honestly haven't cared for what I have played, but I usually like stealth-based games (I love the Splinter Cell series), so given all that is included in here, I may give it another chance depending on price.
@Eel
Well sure but if vol 2 is just the enhanced versions what was the point? I can understand the legacy games like the nes and msx games especially snakes revenge being on the collection. But not to have the latest and best versions ported seems to ba an odd thing. Correct me if I’m wrong but twin snakes, substance nor subsistence have never been added in any collection. Only the vanilla ports.
@GameOtaku The versions in the HD Collection and this version are basically just Substance and Subsistence, I thought.
Truly I am mankind's natural foe! Evil Incarnate! A walking cataclysm! A shapeless insanity! GUNDHAM TANAKA!
Kelpies. Be they hound or horse? I'd rather smell wet dog than be drowned by a horse.
Currently Playing on Switch: Chaos Head Noah, PARANORMASIGHT, Mega Man Series.
@Eel
But it’s just the same games again repackaged with additional content and modes! More like the directors cut editions if you will. I figure vol 2 will focus on the psp games (portable ops and peace walker) possibly mgs4 and possibly mgs gbc (ghost babel). They can still acknowledge the existence of the original games but these directors cut versions are considered the best way to play.
@Scooby-Doo
But it doesn’t specify. It says just sons of liberty and snake eater but no substance or subsistence mentioned. It doesn’t even seem like the msx games are included with 3 but separate and accessible through the main menu unlike how they were on the PS2.
@GameOtaku Sorry, I'm probably just getting confused. But the ones in the HD Collection definitely have content from the ones with Sub-themed names, I'm sure of it, and I thought these were just using the same ones.

It'll depend on the file size. Maybe...maybe not. Not sure yet. Although it has been confirmed for physical release on other platforms. Considering Konami's working relationship with Limited Run Games, I wouldn't be shocked if they handled the physical release on Switch. They'll hit us for $60 for a standard edition, if the file size is over 8GB. And probably $250 for a bunch of useless swag in a super-duper-not-worth-it edition.
