I don't necessarily need a Super Metroid remaster, I just want a virtual console on the Switch with Super Metroid. But I'd take a remaster anyway.

Virtual Console is a wet dream at this point....i am thankful i still own my WiiU for all my Virtual Console needs.

A remastered Super Metroid Switch-afied would be perfect as a dual release to go along with Metroid Prime 4. I know that would especially make Metroid Big Again.
Samus Returns seems more like a testing ground for the series and also to set Nintendo's expectations for the future release of how Prime 4 will do.
Metroid II SR could very well be the final 2D Metroid of all time.

The final 2D Metroid? Doubtful.

No... I hope not. Metroid I and II were deserving of a modern look. Neither Super Metroid or Metroid Fusion is in need of new visuals/gameplay/story. They're perfectly fine for what they are.

A sequel to Fusion is what most fans are looking out for. The story needs to progress at one point! That's why I hope Samus Returns will be the awakening for the Metroid 2D series. Nintendo needs to realize continuing is an option.

A piece of the Triforce appeared before you! (>'.')> Touch it now!

@Sir_Anthony well i hope so. Super is a bit aged. And with VC dead as dead a remake could do great things for the younger generation that hasnt played it. And revisiting the masterpiece for older gamers would be great thing as well. Im all in for more Metroid and I've been calling for a Fusion sequel as well. Trust me, i want my Metroid 5 so much i can taste it.

I do feel like Super Metroid could use a remake, it's not perfect like so many people like to claim, but remaking Super Metroid this soon after Samus Returns feels too soon. Maybe about 5 years from now on Switch.

Those are impure thoughts.

I don't think I'd substantially touch a single thing with Super Metroid. Even the graphics - they're just the right amount of 'grainy' (and perfectly animated). Remastering them in high definitions might take away from the aesthetic and it should never be done with polygons.

Infact the only things I'd possibly do would be to minimise the status bar and to add the option to hold a shoulder button to toggle Missiles on (which would be easy now that modern controllers have an extra pair of shoulder buttons). That and a second - officially balanced - 'second quest' might be welcome but this is really just fiddling around the edges - it's as perfect and enduring a game as has ever been made.

If Samus Returns sells well which I think it will, we'll certainly see another 2D Metroid.
