For me, the classic formula is themed dungeons in a specific order, key items for your inventory that must be used to solve the dungeons, and a tight questline from start to finish.

I like simple video games that have fun gameplay. I get overwhelmed by the open-world stuff. My love for the Zelda franchise is the only reason I can push through games like BotW and TotK.

Ah . . . OK. Thanks for clarifying.

I wasn't sure if you were referring to the ~isometric / 2.5D view of games like Link's Awakening versus the 3D environment of games like Ocarina of Time.

I haven't tried BotW or TotK yet so I don't have a frame of reference for open world vs. not.

I don't think there is a demo for either (BotW & TotK), is there? If there is I would download it to try it out.

In the meantime . . . I am trudging along with OOT. I am in the fish now. Farthest I've ever been in this game.

I'm thinking that I won't go through all the Zelda games I've got before trying out BotW.

I'll try to concentrate on OOT, but only casually play MM while I am out and about.

I might try to get Link's Awakening finished, but hold off on the 2 Ages.

And start up Twilight on our Wii for whenever I have time to sit in front of our Tube TV. But not be so worried about completing it or Skyward Sword before trying out BotW.

Happy Gaming!

Today, I found out that there was an FSR 2.0 update for No Man’s Sky, I’m going to take a break from playing Fortnite with my friends, so I can start replaying No Man’s Sky, Tears of The Kingdom and Mortal Kombat 1.

You only need to know about my many obsessions, which consist of Lego, Fortnite, Nintendo, PlayStation and Xbox games, drawing on my Tablet, Dragon Ball Z, My Hero Academia, Thomas The Tank Engine, Star Wars, and Ninjago.

FishyS

@JONOFTHEJONS what do you play No Man's Sky on? I've always been tempted by that game, but people have said not great things about how it runs on Switch.

@NintendoDad
Yea, there's an equal share of 2D and 3D Zelda games that follow the classic formula, though being an 80s kid, I have the fondest memories of the 2D games.

I don't think there is a demo of BotW, but I may be wrong. It is kinda strange that they haven't done a demo for one of their biggest games on Switch. I feel like they could easily find a way to just make a demo that fences players in to the Great Plateau and let them experiment and go nuts with it.

@rallydefault The biggest Nintendo games generally don't have demos — Mario, Zelda, Mario Kart, etc. They figure word of mouth and general hype is enough. It tends to be the second tier games which sometimes get demos or trials.

@FishyS
True, but I remember they did one for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, and that's what convinced me to get the game (haven't liked Kirby games since the GameBoy lol).

Though on the other hand, the Mario Strikers demo convinced me to NOT get that game haha

I just feel like BotW's been out for so long, and pretty much anyone wants it probably already has it, so why not throw out a demo of the Great Plateau and maybe squeeze the last hold-outs into purchasing the game.

@rallydefault Those are what I meant by second tier Nintendo franchises. Although Kirby is well known, most Kirby games only sell a few million (Dreamland Deluxe is below 2 million) and most Mario sport spinoffs similarly. At least on Switch, I don't think any of the Mainline Zelda or Mario games have demos. I'm not sure how many holdouts are desperately waiting for a demo on a game which has sold over 30 million.

I believe Nintendo has a reputation for not making demos for their biggest games. Honestly having a really good sale would probably grab more holdouts than a demo, but Nintendo has a reputation for not doing that either. I kind of understand... for a lot of non-Nintendo franchises where I expect a demo or a big sale, I'll just hold out and not even think about buying the game day 1. And if you release a demo day 1 instead you have to very carefully calculate whether the demo will increase sales or decrease sales.

The only publisher/developer that I can think of who releases demos for their biggest titles is Square Enix.

I think Nintendo releasing demos for their second tier series can only be a good thing. Sure, people on here are familiar with Kirby, Metroid, Pikmin...but most Switch owners would never have touched these series, or have had very limited experience with them. And considering the overwhelming success of the Switch...now is really the opportunity to get people on board. And it seems to be working.

When it comes to Zelda, Mario, Pokemon, etc...I guess it's just assumed that these will sell based on reputation / word-of-mouth alone. But we have had demos for Zelda, Pokemon and Smash Bros in the past (not sure about Mario?)

On Switch, Super Mario Maker2, randomly felt like trying to make another nightmare of a level. (another Advanced Remix) Even got a month of NSO so I could upload a couple of levels, uploaded one remix of SMB 1-2, but my Advanced Remix level I finished, but could never beat it to upload it. Ah well, maybe next time.

On 3DS, also randomly felt like trying Kirby Planet Robobot again, it's the only Kirby game where I still can't deal with the True Arena. After this attempt, though, I'm super close to pulling it off finally. Might record it just because, dunno when, though.

What's your maker ID? Mario Maker 2 is the number one reason I will never drop NSO. Although nowadays I buy vouchers also so it's cheaper to have NSO than to not have it

Ah, I didn't know Kirby was considered second-tier; I feel like we get one or two Kirby games every year lol

I keep edging closer to pulling out the PS2 Slim to play a 3d platformer, been leaning toward a Ratchet & Clank. I dont think I've touched Jack & Daxter since it released & I played through it. I think I'll be interesting to give it a try after all this time.

@FishyS I haven't been feeling good lately, which was I never replied (I just moved a couple of days ago, lol), soI haven't been playing Mario Maker recently, or my Switch in general. Having TV problems right now and I don't like playing in handheld because of joycons. >.<

So, I don't know my Maker ID at the moment, but I do have course IDs saved as images on my computer. I can give you a code and you can find my stuff that way.

With the announcement of Thousand Year Door heading to Switch, I've gone back to Paper Mario 64 hoping to finally beat it before TTYD comes out since, despite it probably being my favourite N64 game of the ones I've played, I've never actually fully beaten it before, dropping it around Chapter 6 (aka the one with the flowers and clouds) on my initial playthrough. It's haunted me ever since and even though remembering the action commands/controls has been the equivalent of trying to learn how to drive a car, I've been having just as fun a time as I did prior to abandoning it over a year ago (May 2022 to be precise 😅). Gonna be pushing on with it now for the foreseeable future assuming everything goes according to plan!

Currently MIA for exams; see you all in a bit! o7
