Topic: Switch Games Suggestion for Beginner

I recently bought a Nintendo Switch Lite: Dialga and Palkia Edition (which will be arriving on 11th) which leaves me a lot of time to think about what games I want... I've already seen Nintendo Life, IGN and other YouTubers ranking of the games, but I wasn't so sure about BOTW for some reason (mainly because I was super disappointed when I bought all the Zelda games for my 3DS). I already have a PS5 so I'm not bothered about any game like- Minecraft or Stardew Valley. I really wanted to buy Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 but am not really sure.... Can anyone suggest?

Depends on what you like to play.

I'd recommend:
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee
Miitopia
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe

or check out some 3rd party or some indies

I would second what @Kermit1 says about Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, it's really easy to pick up and play. Also 50cc is usually on the easier side, so you can learn to play it without it being frustrating. Same for Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu or Eevee, they're Pokemon games, but on the easier side compared to mainline Pokemon games.

The resident Trolls superfan! Saw Trolls Band Together via early access and absolutely loved it!

I third about what @Sunsy said about @Kermit1, it’s the definitive list of go to beginner switch games!

Nintendo are like woman, You love them for whats on the inside, not the outside…you know what I mean! Luzlane best girl!

@VivianXD2464 Honestly I think for now you should pass on BOTW... as it can be fairly challenging, and involves a lot of in-game mechanics and nuances that might not be 'beginner friendly'. BOTW is an awesome game, but maybe one to tackle once you've got to grips with some more suitable 'entry level' games!

I think your own suggestions of Mario Kart 8 and Mario Odyssey are great.

In particular - I vote Mario Odyssey, as it still today remains a great showcase game for the Switch's capabilities.... and it is relatively friendly for beginners without patronising the gamer.

Definitely go Odyssey, which can be your 'main' and then have MK8 on the side for short bursts of play. Those 2 AAA games will see you straight for months. Then perhaps graduate to BOTW!

If you already have PS5, I'd avoid buying any cross-platform games (as honestly you'd probably be better playing those on Playstation) but instead focus on the in-house Nintendo AAA games.

It really depends what type of games you like.

Kirby and the forgotten land is a great game and not too difficult
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker if you like puzzle games
Streamworld Dig 2 is a fantastic game too

Zelda BOTW is significantly different to other Zelda games, whilst maintaining the essence of the franchise, there is so much to do in that game, personally it's my favourite game of all time, I think judging it based on other Zelda games may be harsh.

I love both Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart, again the type of game you like most should help you decide, both are 10/10 games. I think there are far harder games than Odyssey on the Switch, personally I don't think it's hugely difficult and there's always youtube videos if you get stuck!

@VivianXD2464 Definitely recommending Mario Odyssey and Luigi's Mansion 3 wholeheartedly. A 3D platformer and an action/adventure game. Both are great looking and great playing games. And the challenge level is relatively low.

Switch Physical Collection - 1,252 games (as of April 30th, 2024)

Yoshi's Crafted World is another good Nintendo exclusive. One of the games I beat multiple times and I think it is quite relaxing. You really should try Mario Odyssey and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe.
