Topic: Cannot purchase with my card

Good day

I was able to purchase v-bucks etc on my sons nintendo switch.

For some time now when I try to purchase a car from rocket league I get an error message that my card cannot be used and to contact my bank. I have used various cards from various banks but no luck. I also tried to purchase mario broadband but no luck

Any idea why this is happening?

Yes the information is correct. I tried the same card and different cards on different days. My nephew has the same message when trying to purchase with his card on his switch.

Im thinking it may have something to do with the region of the card vs. The region it hints the nintendo is in.

So it once showed my card is from Germany which is not correct. My card is from Cyprus

@Elenach Last spring Nintendo had to do a major security upgrade. The upgrade blocked people's digital purchases until you re-entered the credit card info in your Nintendo account on Nintendo's website. That solved it for most people, depending on their region. If that doesn't work, using PayPal should solve it. You can setup paypal in your Nintendo account on Nintendo's website. (I've been using paypal since before the security issue, and it's worked well (north america region))

If neither of those two options solve it, you may have to contact Nintendo.

@WoomyNNYes Nope. Never had any payment issues on the eShop. I've always used PayPal for all of my digital game purchases on all of my consoles.

@Elenach I would try to re-enter the card data. Best thing might be to go into your Nintendo profile, un-link the card from it, and then re-enter the data and re-link the card. That should probably solve the issue. And if it doesn't, then PayPal is a perfectly safe alternative.

@Elenach If I remember right, last summer someone thought there was something wrong with their credit info on eshop, but it turned out their credit info was entered fine, it took Nintendo's system 6+ hours for their updated credit card info to take affect. It's possible this is an unlikely scenario, but just in case, try your digital purchase later.

@Blackrosewaifu9000 This issue has come up many times, and setting up paypal for eshop is the workaround. I can't recall anyone that didn't end up using paypal as the solution. As an extra layer of security, I had already been using paypal in eshop before the Nintendo's security upgrade.

The security upgrade that created this issue was in response to increased switch hacking, or credit card hacking, back in early 2020. You can try contacting nintendo support, but paypal is likely your solution. I won't pretend to know everything, but that's the trend we've seen here in the forum.. If you do find out something new or different, please share.

More specifically, I think the security upgrade had to do with people buying from eshop of one country while using a credit card from another country. In the forum, here, this issue often been encountered in the EU region.

@Blackrosewaifu9000 I don't forsee the issue going away any time soon. The hacking period that triggered Nintendo's security upgrade was also the period in which websites around the world started implementing two factor idenfication.

I have disdain for 2FA it has locked my account from another site to point-I had the support team delete the account so I could recreate the account. And ever since that problem that even it was me verifying myself they couldn't fix it. So anyone planning to use 2FA better insure your passcode and login is correct to T's otherwise the support whom suppose to help are no help at that point. Now when sites ask for 2FA my response is disable it-there are better ways to protect your account and 2FA isn't one of them it's the WORST.
