Also on the list of things to do is to buy nice Hanafuda, Shogi and Mah Jong sets, and then find on the internets english rules.

For mahjong rules I swear by the following: excellent book.

Also this site has a focus on the arcade mahjong games you play in MAME (mostly strip mahjong, but the site is safe for work), but it does cover the Riichi rules in detail and lists the yaku (special hands).

Seriously tempted to get a Japanese PS3 and Final Fantasy XIII while we're there. I don't want to wait for the Aus release.
