This law would be on the 2011 ballot, and would require the discontinuation of corn syrup in food and drink products by 2015. Corn syrup would be replaced with natural sugar, and only that.

On January 1, 2015, all food or drink products still using corn syrup in their formula will result in a fine to the company of $1 per unit for one year, after which the company will receive a federal warning for one month. If after one month, the company refuses to cease their usage of corn syrup in food and drink products, the company will be federally shut down immediately.

Food distributers and manufacturers have their claws deep in the government. I personally don't see this happening.

As nice as it is to think that you could make such quick changes to ingredients lists across the board, that law would never pass. The agricultural industry (and the corn sector in particular) is too strong a lobbying power for the government to pass a law rejecting corn syrup.

try contacting your local house representative or senator if you feel that strongly about corn syrup for whatever reason; this isn't really the place for that.
