As you all know, the worldwide economy is pretty bad these days. Because of this, people are out to get you in your time of need. I've been unemployed since December, and I gotta say it's tough, but use your common sense! I received an email today from a company saying I will be taught how to make a minimum 1000 USD a week selling insurance. They said they viewed my resume online, yet nobody has checked my resume in a while. A quick check of the company and the scam alerts popped up. I saw on the news tonight about a lady replying to an online job posting and they asked her to deposit money orders they sent her supporting her business expenses into her personal account so she can get started. That's a sure fire way to detect a scam. Remember a few things:

-Never accept a job that requires you to pay them. That's how they get your routing number.
-If the job promises big wages with little effort, stay away. No such thing as easy money.
-Most importantly, if it seems too good to be true, it is.

Hope this helps someone from becoming a victim.

Good information.

Keep in mind that, while this is GREAT info, this does not mean that every single online job is in fact a scam. I actually work for a company that advertised, via Craigslist, for an online position and it's arguably the best job I've ever had. Granted, this job did NOT make absurd promises (10 bucks an hour, 28 hours max a week, stated upfront) and required nothing beyond submitting them a resume, reading the response email, and showing up for the first wave of the interview process (which was in person at a building--all things that progressively set my mind at ease).

@Swerd_Murd Very true that not all online jobs are scams, but you used your common sense and landed a cool job. That's great to hear. I've seen local Home Depot's posting jobs on CL. Nothing irritates me more than dishonest business, but my rage is heightened when people feed off the desperation of others.

They're everywhere. Especially online. That's why I tend to deal with my money offline
