I made my way around the shadowy mountain-top, following the Koopa back to its lair. I'd made an art out of tracking Koopas over the past few months since Peach had been taken from us. God, I miss her.
Life had no purpose without her by my side. When I stood outside the Thousand Year door that night, kneeling in Peach's blood, I thought I would have her back in days. I needed her back.
But need was not enough.
The king of Koopas had hidden her away somewhere no one could find her, and no matter what I did or who I killed, I hadn't been able to save her.
Being in the castle was difficult. She was everywhere, and she was nowhere. Her absence was a constant knife in my heart.
So I left as often as I could. I hunted. I killed. I destroyed those who worked for the enemy, and their deaths were a drug that numbed the pain, if only for a while.
Already a dozen Koopas had died at my hands.
After tonight, it would be thirteen.
Edgey, Gumshoe, Godot, Sissel, Larry, then Mia, Franziska, Maggie, Kay and Lynne.
I'm throwing my money at the screen but nothing happens!
Bowser started back, heading toward the glow of the clown car's eye lights. He was drenched and miserable. He heard the soft hooting cry once more, and this time he paused. That hadn't really sounded like a Raven. And it seemed to be close by, in the jungle somewhere off to his right.
As he listened, he heard a crashing sound in the underbush. Then silence. He waited, and heard it again. It sounded distinctively like something big, moving slowly through the jungle toward him.
Something big. Somehing near. A big Yoshi.
Get out of here.
Bowser began to run. He made a lot of noise as he ran, but even so he could hear the animal crashing through the foliage. And hooting.
It was coming closer.
Stumbling over tree roots in the darkness, clawing his way past dripping branches, he saw the clown car ahead, and the lights shining around the vertical wall of the barrier made him feel better. In a moment he'd be in the car and then he'd get the hell out of here. He scrambled around the barrier and then he froze.
The Yoshi was already there.
Bowser waited to see if it would attack. It didn't. Perhaps the eye lights from the clown car frightened it, forcing it to keep it's distance, like a fire.
The Yoshi stared at him and then snaped it's arms in a single swift motion. Bowser felt something smack wetly agaisnt his chest. He looked down and saw a dripping glob of goo and broken pieces on his rain-soaked shell. He touched it curiously, not comprehending....
