Dracula: Undead Awakening comes out tomorrow for DSiWare, so I thought I'd post up some impressions based on the PSN version of the game that I own.
It's a fun (albiet somewhat limited) survival shooter game. Basically, what you do is kill as many waves of enemies as possible until they finally get you. If you do well enough, you get a top score.
It's limited because there's only a handful of game modes (which all essentially boil down to the same idea - survive while killing stuff), and only 3 maps, which are not really different in any significant way.
Where the game excells though, is in pacing. It's just fast enough to be tense and challenging without being frustrating. There's a bit of customisation available as you play - kill enough enemies and you'll "level up" - allowing you to select one of four power-ups, and the action is smooth. There's a good range of weapons, and they feel suitably chunky. There's also a surprisingly decent number of enemies too, although there's also a lot of palette swapping.
Sound is quite basic, and my real concern with the DS version is the framerate - will it struggle when there are hordes of enemies on-screen at once, or will the small screen size mean that it's too hard to see where enemies are coming from?
Overall, though, it should control well - the optimal way to play on the PS is using the D-pad and four face buttons as well - and the high score addiction will definately set in with this one.
Ideally it would cost 500 points - 200 would be a must-have bargin, and 800 might be pushing it a bit too far.
But regardless, it's a good update to have this week
This game is good for the DS, moreso than the PS3 (which I also downloaded it onto) and Wii, because it's definately a pick-up and play style game.
The DS version is good. No slowdown, even when there's 20+ enemies on the screen, and the visuals are clean and clear. You can't play this for hours at a time, but trying to beat your last top score makes it easy to keep coming back to for 20 minutes at a time. For 500 points, I recommend it (over the Wii and PS3) to anyone who hasn't got an iPhone.

Quick question: does it need the shoulder buttons to play?
This is one of my favorite iPhone games, but playing it with physical buttons will undoubtedly be MUCH better. I definitely think it will be worth buying again for that alone.
You need shoulder buttons when making menu selections, or changing weapons.
This is much, much better on DSiWare than PSN. The game is too simple for TV play, but it's perfect for filling 20 minutes on the train. Perfect.
Are you sure you can't just pause and then switch weapons or make menu selections, or maybe small, responsive buttons on the touch screen to do these things?
