Hi guys, Ive recently bought a N3DS console. And im constantly having problems with the 3D image. It only works if im completely still and focused like a statue but that is just a drag. Every little head movement or twitch and the image flickers, I see double image flash for a second and its annoying. It wasnt like that before. I could have played in 3D more comfortably. I tried calibrating but still its the same. And one other thing I noticed that the red infrared light next to the camera is always ON; like it couldnt detect my eyes. Any thoughts? Or solutions?

@Morpheel: hi! No I dont have long hair or sunglasses. I was wondering is it normal that the IR is ON all the time? I just noticed that I usually play N3Ds while laying in my bed at night so that could be the reason why the IR is ON. But still the 3D breaks quite often.

No, the IR is not supposed to on be in all the time. It comes on more frequently when playing in the dark, though.

The IR always being on may indicate the the camera is being obscured somehow. Is there perhaps some reflection or glare that may cause the camera to not work properly?

The IR light is generally on all the time when your surroundings are dark. The face/eye-tracking uses the front-facing camera, and it stands to reason that if that camera can't see anything, it can't track anything. Most digital cameras can see IR light (unlike humans), and that makes it ideal for illuminating your eyes without distracting you.

Do you wear glasses? I find that my lenses typically mess with the IR light and make it hard for the 3DS to read my face. When I'm not wearing my glasses, my N3DSXL works perfectly.

I expected wider 3D viewing angles without a hitch, at least this is how Nintendo advertised it. but alas, picture doubling and crazy screen flickering destroy the experience.

Doesn't anybody else see the screen flicker or double imaging when using super stable 3D?

It happens to me, but very rarely. Maybe only 30 seconds total to every hour. Just enough to be annoying, but not enough to make me want to lose the benefits. It's usually in short bursts as well. It never happens for more than 1 second at a time. I usually shake the 3DS a bit and it goes "oh, hey, his eyes are there now."

Even then, the majority of the time it happens is because of lighting. There's some ambient lights behind the sofa I can't have on while playing, otherwise it does an awful number to the eye-tracking. In total darkness with no glasses on, the only time it ever "flashes" or otherwise disrupts the effect is when I look away from the 3DS.

More likely than not, your playing conditions are at the root of the problem.
