Topic: Is there any way to find out the date of manufacturing?

Hi. I just bought a 3DS. I had an XL but I preferred the smaller size (I take public transportation every day) and screen size to resolution ratio. (I don't know why I had to explain that).

I was told that the 3DS has a design flaw that causes the raised bezel of the bottom screen to scratch the top screen. I did some searching and read some blog/news posts that mentioned the 3DS was pulled or being held from manufacturing some time in 2011.

So, I was wondering if there was a way to read the serial number or something to figure out the manufacturing date. Does anyone know if newer models still have this problem? I closed mine and held it sideways up to a light. The bezel doesn't touch at all.
