Nintendo has confirmed today that Wii U titles Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze and Hyrule Warriors are getting revived on Switch.
The two titles were highlights of the previous console cycle but given the Wii U's small install base, many potential players will have missed them (granted, Hyrule Warriors was also on 3DS, but visually it was a scaled-down experience).
In that respect, bringing them to Switch is a wise move, although we personally don't think we've got the willpower to play through Hyrule Warriors a third time. You may be different! It will include every map and mission, plus all 29 playable characters from both the Wii U and Nintendo 3DS versions of the game, along with all of the previous paid downloadable content.
Tropical Freeze, on the other hand, includes a playable Funky Kong, so that's a day-one purchase basically.
Tropical Freeze launches on May 4th, while Hyrule Warriors: Definitive Edition is expected in the spring.

Woooooo!
NO Returns HD 😦
Sweet! Now we just needs Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World
I inagine Hyrule Warriors will have all the extra content exclusive to Legends.
Never finished DKC TF but enjoyed what I played and I believe the portable capabilities of the Switch is a plus for quick platforming plays.
I passed on Hyrule Warriors twice now. Third time's the charm?
I haven't even booted up my Wii U copy of Tropical Freeze and at this rate, I doubt I ever will.
I would love 3D World if for no other reason than the novelty of anywhere co-op.
This is good news though! It's an amazing game which deserves to be on the Switch.
NO. WALLET. STOP. WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!
@sillygostly I hated the co-op in 3D World. It tries to be too competitive when you're with more than 2 players.
Nice. Already have it, but Tropical Freeze was a great platformer, it deserves a bigger audience.
Best platformer ever
DKC: Tropical Freeze is an excellent platformer. For those who have a Switch (or even a Wii U), this game is a must-play!
I also had a blast with Hyrule Warriors and would also recommend it. The story is hit or miss, but the gameplay and some of the characters are worth it.
Already have both for Wii U, so I won't be buying them. Nice these games get new life for those who haven't played them though!
I never hot into Tropical Freeze, I think there were too many 2D platform games on the Wii U and I just got real bored. And now again three in a single year means I'll only buy Kirby and avoid the other two.
Wow! I guess this is a trend that Nintendo will continue? They should also consider any past gems from the Wii and GameCube catalogue! Unless those systems’ games end up in the “virtual console” service?
Will be getting both of these for sure, can't wait!!
Wow...
@JH64 should have bundled both like Bayonetta 1-2. Would have added a lot of value without much work.
Ah man, triple buy for Hyrule Warriors? Wife is gonna kill me
Also, where are the new games Nintendo?
I’m all for remasters of games like these but I really think Nintendo would have been better served announcing these alongside a few new games. Aside from Kirby and Mario Tennis, they have nothing new with any concrete release date.
I am extremely glad for Tropical freeze. I prefer Donkey Kong country returns and I hope we will get it too, but Tropical freeze is very good anyway and I'm more than happy to play it on Switch!
I'm in a similar position about Hyrule warriors. I like it. I hope that we will get Twilight princess too because it is by far my favourite Zelda game (I know Hyrule warriors is a different genre) but Hyrule warrior is a very welcome addition to the library anyway. I will buy Tropical freeze for sure and I am almost sure that I will buy Hyrule warriors too, not completely 100% sure about Hyrule. Very close to 100% anyway
I haven’t played my copy of DK Freeze on the Wii U. I’ll likely get it on the Switch. That’s just the type of game that portable is great for. Beat a level or two, put it down, pick it up again later. Looking like we are going to see most of the First party games from Wii U.
I used to listen David Wise's Tropical Freeze soundtrack on the go, now I can also play it on the go.
Not be a bummer, but I really hope this wasn't what Retro Studios was secretly working on for all this time. This is super cool, but darn, I would much rather they'd made a new installment of something, or a new IP.
@Tyranexx Well, I definitely cared more about its story than Fire Emblem Warriors.
I was thinking of a reason to get back into Tropical Freeze after taking it back. I guess the Switch version found that reason for me...
Hyrule Warriors? YES!!
Haven’t played the original so I for one a, looking forward to this.
Disappointing. I have them both on Wii U. Like all the other ports, I'm not giving Nintendo more money for them.
Edit: And I bought all the DLC. It annoyed me that you had to pay for both the Wii U and 3DS DLC. They never gave us all of the 3DS content but Switch owners can have it all.
@Luffymcduck I do the same. Best music for on-the-go I also can recommend David Wise's tracks in Yooka Layle.
I will triple dip on warriors but I’m gonna pass on the dk double dip
Hmm. Hyrule Warriors or Fire Emblem Warriors?
I’m sooooooo excited for these. Never played Warriors but will absolutely get it now and Donkey Kong is amazing. Not regretting getting rid of my Wii U at all now.
@StephenYap3: I can't really comment on the story of Fire Emblem Warriors since I haven't played it. My point was that the story in Hyrule Warriors was by no means bad (I found it passable and even fairly decent at times), but that I felt that the gameplay and unique/fun/crazy character combat styles are what really made the game fun for me.
@thesilverbrick Pretty convenient for Nintendo that they can just vulture the Wii U hits, during slow periods for the Switch. Since I didn't own a Wii U, many of these still few like new games...but I totally understand how previous console owners could be feeling shafted.
Would only get HW if you could transfer saves, put too much time into it and don't wanna start everything over again.
I FINALLY GET TO PLAY TROPICAL FREEEEEEEEZZZZZEEE!!!!
Great game for switch owners who missed the Wii u. You'll enjoy this one
@Reignmaker Trouble is, there’s really no excuse for “slow period” on Switch. Especially not now, seeing as there are no announced major titles in development, the console is selling out of control and they no longer have to split development up to make 3DS games. Like I said, I don’t mind seeing remasters like this, but this Direct was super hyped but featured nothing new from Nintendo except for Mario Tennis. Here’s hoping they are saving some significant big guns for E3.
Hyrule warriors will be more fun and diverse than FE warriors. Especially if the add the 3ds improvements and upp the quality.
@Dev in the direct they showed fairy creator for a few seconds and it'll have 29 characters, WiiU and 3DS content combined with a few new costumes.
Never got DKCTF. Was actually hoping it'd get a Switch port, so I'll be picking that up. Need to convince wife of my need to get the Hyrule Warriors port, though I have for Wii U with all DLC....hmmm.
@JH64 Great news.
The reception to Tropical Freeze has been A LOT MORE positive as of late, naming it one of the best platformers of all time. I'm sure it'll sell a lot better on the switch.
I've been waiting to see if Tropical Freeze will get a port, and I'm glad that I waited!
Hyrule Warriors is tempting but I've already bought it twice with the season passes. However I really wanted the Legends content in HD so I'll wait for a sale.
Pikmin 3 next!
Problem with Tropical Freeze is that it got a "selects" release ($20) on the WiiU (which is why I picked it up). I don't feel like there's enough added to the switch port to make it worth getting again, especially if the Switch port is 2-3x the price at release.
I hadn't picked up Hyrule Warriors yet for the WiiU, and having all of the DLC and maps from both the 3DS and WiiU releases makes it a big plus, along with new exclusive content like BotW Link and Zelda skins. I'll likely pick this up at/near release.
Now Tropical Freeze is the kind of game I'd buy twice. Especially for Funky!
Never got around to buying tropical freeze on Wii U for one reason or another so will be very interested in this one.
If I'd already bought it I'd see no reason to buy again but thankfully it will be a new game in my eyes
Hyrule Warriors = sweet! Hopefully a graphics upgrade after playing FE Warriors though.
Bravo! I have never owned a WiiU (count me in for contributing to low sales of that console), and DK Tropical Freeze is one of very few games that I wanted to play but couldn't. Now with that game coming to Switch, I will get a chance to play it as I like (whether at home or on the go) without needing to buy a WiiU.
Don't mind me, just still waiting for my game to be on Switch. (sniff)
Kind of mad that I burned all that money on the Hyrule Warriors DLC and its now coming out at a presumably more reasonable price. >_<
Oh well, I guess now I know not to play Fire Emblem Warriors until its definitive edition comes out.
@thesilverbrick actually Tennis is being developed by camelot which is good news for the game.
Most likely get both of these.
@Luffymcduck How will you play all of those instruments on the go?
@idrawrobots Good to know. I have fond memories of the Mario Tennis games they developed the past.
I don't mind old games coming to the Switch for the people who want them. But I own both these games on the Wii U and played them through to the end already, so this direct doesn't really excited me.
But then again, I still have half of Xenoblade 2, LA Noire, Skyrim, and OkamI on the PS4 to play through so it'should probably a good thing I don't see listsome of games I need to buy in the next 3 months.
@thesilverbrick I feel the same way. Only 2 new games in first half of 2018. That’s no better than Wii U era and they are just asking Wii U supporters pay full price for an upgrade and a sliver of bonus content.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Nintendo isn't asking you for more money. Nintendo is asking the people who didn't own a Wii U for money for the first time, and when you consider the lower development costs of porting compared to the potential sales to an install base which is already larger in some regions, it would be the height of folly for Nintendo not to port them just to satisfy the entitled desires of a tiny portion of their customers that all content be new for everyone, a demand that I hope sounds as absurd to you as it does to everyone else.
I just wish that I can transfer my save data of Hyrule Warriors Legends from the 3DS to the Switch. I don't want to redo everything. I even bought the Seasons Pass.
I will forever stand by DKC Tropical Freeze as being one of the best games the Wii U ever had. I really, really enjoyed it the first time around.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE I mean, that's totally fair. While I'm a bit annoyed with myself that I never played much of my Wii U copy of Tropical Freeze, I'm really looking forward to definitive portable versions of these games!
I never got a chance to go through Tropical Freeze. I can't wait to give it a go!
At least we finally know what retro studios had been working away on 😉
At last, the Definitive Edition of Hyrule Warriors! I thoroughly enjoyed the Wii U version, but didn't get to experience the 3DS version and it's extras. I had a feeling this kind of re-release was just a matter of time, so I've been waiting for this. Time to get my double dip on!
Now I'm glad I was never able to get either on Wii U
Super Mario Galaxy 1 & 2 better be next, I didn't have a chance to play those during the Wii days so I would very appreciated if they are coming. Also HD remastered of Fatal Frame IV & V would be nice.
I really like Tropical Freeze and I've played through both versions of Returns. IMO TF feels tough but fair while Returns just felt like cheap level design.
To the people that are going to triple-dip Hyrule Warriors, how you don't get tired of leveling up all the characters yet again?!I'm legitimately curious. For me the one time I did it on Wii U was more than enough.
will this version of the game follow the 3DS version of the story-line or the Wii U version of the story-line? or will they include both?
I've already played and beaten both, so im good.
@HerroThar This is definitely not what ever Retro was working on because it does not take 4 years to do a port of game that has very little upscaling or editing necessary. Even adding Funky would not have been a ton of work. They may have just relegated a small team to this like 5-10 guys or it might have been sent to one of Nintendo's other subsidiary's. My guess is that we are going to get Retro's Game at E3 cause that will be something different.
Brilliant news, one of Wii U's best titles
@GracefulGazelle That makes sense, and I feel better
@JimmySpades I kind of think @SLIGEACH_EIRE shared his own, personal, point of view on these ports. I also have these games on my WiiU and don't feel like buying again (a bit disappointed that these weren't new games...). That doesen't mean I feel this is the wrong move from Nintendo, it's actually kind of an obvious choice considering the sales of the WiiU. Also glad for all the people who haven't had the chance to play them yet!
Tropical Freeze is possibly my favourite game on Wii U... Switch version is released on my birthday!
Disappointed that it's not a double pack with Returns as well as Tropical Freeze
You know we still don't know what Retro Studios are working on. A Wii U port can't just be it, that takes no effort, I assume they're handling it. It's practically 4 years since their last game.
Tropical Freeze is one of my favorite 2D platformers. I'll get the Switch version for sure. Also happy that more people will get the opportunity to play it.
@Reignmaker Personally, I'm happy Tropical Freeze gets to have a wider audience this time. I might even double dip for it, if it's still $20, like the Wii U version is.
Hm, okay... I would've preferred if they brought the Wii U's best titles first and not the average ones (I both have them on Wii U and they're okay, but not outstanding).
Never played it as i had no Wii U but i will get this .
@Mintendo I understand that it is @SLIGEACH_EIRE 's opinion on the subject. But it is about the 12,365th time he's expressed it, so I thought it fair to explain for the 12,364th time why such ports exist. Also, rather than being disappointed but understanding why, he honestly believes that anyone who wants to play Tropical Freeze or Hyrule Warriors (or Bayonetta 2 or Pokken Tournament or...) should just buy a Wii U, and that every Switch game should be a new, original title, neither of which is realistic in any way.
This is the happiest day of my life! More than my wedding day!
This was my NUMBER ONE requested Wii U title for Switch, right next to Xenoblade Chronicles X.
A dream come true!
Now we know what Retro was working on.
Creating playable Funky Kong 😜
@KayFiOS Good point. Not a hope will DKC: TF be $20. Nintendo will milk this for every cent. I see they'll be charging ¥6,800 for Hyrule Warriors on Switch. That though you could argue has all the DLC included. I will be interested to see how much both cost when they release here but if you look at previous examples, expect to pay full price.
I had bin expecting more wii u ports, but was so certain that they would not be porting Hyrule warriors. Still never got tropical freeze so will be buying that one , and will wait and see regarding Hyrule warriors.
Price?
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Considering that Hyrule Warriors Legends cost $55 altogether, DLC included, $60 is pretty reasonable for better visuals, 8-bit weapons (hopefully), co-op, and Challenge Mode.
Tropical Freeze is fantastic, but after completing normal and hard mode 100%, I've lost any interest in playing it again.
Load times! Think of the reduced load times on DK, especially that initial world load up!
Wow! Someone on this site actually guessed this one correctly among all the hype leading up to this and I told them they were wrong!!!! I forget who it was or I would give them credit.....and I'm sorry.
Anyways, Tropical Freeze was one of the best games on the Wii U in my opinion. I don't think it received enough credit. But as much as I liked it, I doubt I will double dip on this one. The only thing added is a "baby sitter" feature that I think is awesome for younger gamers who find the game too tough. My youngest is 8. He would be the only person in my household that would maybe get this game again.
I've never been a "warriors" fan so I've stayed away from Hyrule Warriors and F.E. Warriors....probably do so again.
but this is great for everyone else.
@sketchturner My thoughts exactly!
Definitely pass on Hyrule Warriors. I played it enough on the WiiU. More importantly, we would need another Switch to have a similar experience as we did on the WiiU as with the WiiU one person could have the Gamepad and another person could have the TV.
Never got into Donkey Kong Country so I'm sure I'll pass on that one as well.
I guess the only reason to pick up HW again is to play the 3DS Story Content in HD (And those BOTW outfits), but yeah, bit hard to play through 250+ hours again, even as we already have FE Warriors and Japan got a whole bunch of Warriors games ported. Still, if that's your thing...
DKC TF getting another shot is great. Might mean there's no 3rd game in the series coming anytime soon but hey, another good platformer to Switch.
I have never played Hyrule Warriors so I will definitely have to consider checking it out. I am on the fence about Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze since I already played it to completion on Wii U. Even with Funky Kong I don't think I could justify getting it. I will just wait for the next Donkey Kong game someday
I've never actually bought this game as I bought Mario 3D World instead, but I have played some of it, and from what I've experienced, it's easily one of the best 2D platformer in a decade or so. I'll be picking this up for sure.
I’m excited for DK as I never had a Wii U but a bit surprised that Nintendo are having to rely on these ports. Perhaps they really did frontload 2017 at the expense of 2018
Cool. Really hope Captain Toad and Paper Mario follow suit!
@james_squared I gotta admit I screamed in joy when I saw Hyrule Warriors Switch Edition announced. But yeah I hadn't even thought about how co-op worked on Wii U. It was amazing to play that way. I hope Split screen won't feel bad on Switch. I don't think I minded so much on Fire Emblem Warriors, so I should be okay.
What I really want is save transfer from the Wii U version but it's probably not happening.
HW is terrible , but will sell anyway. (Y'all talking about the GAMEPLAY is good and the story is HIT OR MISS? C'mon now.)
DK: TF is an AMAZING platformer and definitely deserves a second chance. That being said, it feels like a lot of these announcements are just returning Switch games...
Give us a new 3D world!
Never finish TF, never started HW. If they offer a large discount, I might get TF again. I want 3d world with new levels the lives mechanic from odosey and network multiplayer!
I never played Tropical Freeze. So maybe now I'll give it a shot. And Hyrule warriors was a bit "meh" in my opinion but I suppose I'd give it another whirl.
As much as I like tropical freeze, I’m not paying full price for it again. Will pick it up if it is less than £20
Both great games, but two more reasons why i’m not in a hurry to trade in my Wii U for a Switch
Never got Tropical Freeze on my Wii U but may pick this up on Switch as I love me a 2D platformer!
Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze turned out to be one of the best games I've ever played, but the loading time makes it hard for me to play again. I really, really, hope they some how improve it significantly.
@RamrodDestroyer
It's really hard but I can pull it of with the power of Nintendo.
I won't be double dipping on Warriors, and don't care for platformers.
There is certainly a drought of switch exclusives developed by nintendo if you don't like platformers like myself,
Everytime i read about another game coming to switch it's always a bloody port, even Lacrimosa of dana ain't worth a double dip for me and that's a great game
I might play dktf but i doubt it. Please let this be the end of the wii u rereleases
excellent! please re-release Super Mario 3D World and Tokyo Mirage Sessions next.
Getting Specter Knight vibes from Funky Kong.
YAWN! I guess my switch will gather dust whilst i wait for some new Nintendo games i have no interest in getting these games again
I’ll have to pass on these. I’ll gladly pick up Bayonetta 2 again, a 3rd time for the first one. But I can’t do the same for DK and Warriors.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE Well said. I'm just thankful it isn't the game I spent $100+ on DLC for (not yet at least - if they did I would be in the #DoNotForgiveNintendo crowd). Not going to say the name because I don't want to jinx it.
@JimmySpades I don't think that word means what you think it means. Being disappointed that Nintendo would force its most loyal customers to choose between two undesirable options (shelling out $80 for a game they already own or missing out on some potentially great new content) isn't entitlement. Entitlement would be demanding that Nintendo release an improved port of a game for a system you chose not to buy (and doing the same thing on every single thread). You don't see us begging for a Mario Odyssey Deluxe Wii U port, even though (by your own reasoning) it would cost next to nothing to make and it would broaden the game's install base.
@Euler No, I know what all the words I used mean.
@citizenerased "Sweet! Now we just needs Pikmin 3 and Super Mario 3D World"
...And Smash Bros!
I might get both of these as I never played Tropical Freeze and only had the 3DS version of HW. I liked the game a lot but the graphics were decidedly meh. Not a day one buy but definitely on the radar.
DK day one!
So I've got FEB sorted with payday 2, and MAY tropical freeze but really need more than this what big for March ? April ? June?
I’d be more excited if we were getting Amiibo for these. Lana, Cia, Ruto and Darunia for Hyrule Warriors and Dixie, Cranky and Funky for DK. I think Nintendo forgot about Amiibo.
@SLIGEACH_EIRE https://youtu.be/2Ff3SNG-B_I
This Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze port on Switch is going to cost £16.99, right?
Right?
RIGHT?
Not a frozen banana's chance in Tropical Hell.
I am all for the ports of the solid Wii U titles most people missed out on. I am hoping the bring more of them, Mario Maker Definitive edition? The Zelda HD remasters? Xenoblade X? Yes please.
Only way I will do Hyrule Warriors again is if they allow importing of my Wii U Save file. I've got like 270 hours or something ridiculous like that in that game, there is no way I would start it over.
Now I can safely sell my Wii U versions to make some space. I know I'll be getting a lot of mileage out of Tropical Frreze's new mode, and I really couldn't justify playing Hyrule Warriors, or really any Tecmo Koei/Omega Force game, unless it's the "definitive edition," simply because I'm financially disincentivized from enjoying their games, thanks to how frequently they release new versions and paid content.
@tux_peng yes. A 3d world sequel or even a remastered expansion as you describe would be wonderful.
Awesome! The two Wii U games I was most hoping would be ported. Can't wait to finally play Hyrule Warriors with all of the Legends content.
Also, what are they going to do about transferring save files for Hyrule Warriors? Probably nothing. I've put 100's of hours into that game. No way I'd start that from scratch again. I'm sure others would feel the same way.
I was hoping DKC Tropical Freeze would be released on the Switch. Beyond that and the HD Zelda remasters, it's the only reason I've been holding on to my Wii U. For the people complaining (the same ones who tend to complain on every other article), I understand it's frustrating that you bought the game once, but you're not obligated to buy the game again, end of story. It's not like your Wii U copy is going to catch fire the day the Switch version is released.
@Gregnetic That's the same argument lootbox apologists use.
@Euler Not sure what that is to be honest.
Jeez.....some people getting torqued because of WiiU ports. WiiU had such a pathetic install base, it just makes sense to get the WiiU's quality titles out there. Hyrule make sense becaue FE warriors engine already on Switch so likely the Hyrule port was worked at the same time. What would be great is of down the road they out both warrior games on one cart. As for DKTF....its a total classic and the only knock is its damned hard. Adding funky kong will make it appealing to about 5x more people. I would love to see more ports like Capt Toad, Paper Mario and Xeno next.
I never got to play any of these games because I haven't owned a Nintendo system since the 64 so I never got to play any of these games but I'm kinda bummed that the Nintendo is turning into a indie slash 2 to 13 year old games resurfacing up on the switch and it bothers me. We need exclusives and triple AAAs not games that been out on other consoles from anywhere of 2 to 13 years old......
@citizenerased yes!! Pikmin 3 definitive edition for Switch with included DLC!
can't wait !! 1st day buy
Absolutely loved DK returns on Wii missed out on Tropical Freeze as didn’t bother with the Wii U. I’m sure I won’t be the only one. Day 1 purchase for me.
My Wii u will not have any exclusives left.
If they bring super mario 3d world.
New super Marios u. Captain toads treasure tracker. W101 bayonatta 2 it's time to sell the Wii u
Here's a game they've ported twice. Luckily it's not stopped the Switch from also having that treatment with Fire Emblem Characters and Maybe also Xenoblade Characters. As for Donkey Kong, sure hope a game with the Kremlings again will arrive sometime in the Switch's time. These ports like of Hyrule Warriors and Bayonetta 2 can't interfere with the system eventually having new games at all, especially with Mario Kart, the most popular of all Mario Spinoffs that we've been lucky to see a New Game of on each and every Nintendo System, and I won't be getting a Switch myself until a NEW Official Mario Kart game with 16 NEW Nitro and Retro Tracks for it is announced, of which would also include features from a Mainstream Mario game released on the System, Super Mario Odyssey.
@quicksilver88, you are right. People have to realize that you can't get new games so fast. It is Good to have solid quality Wii u port games in between games, especially definitive versions that have all the dlc already.
People should stop complaining. I know that some of you buy game of the year version games on ps4 & Xbox one. For those that have a Wii u and do not want to get a port for the switch, you are missing out especially the on the go factor that you can play this anywhere. I used to have a Wii u, but even If i still had it, I would still get those games because of the switch hybrid advantage.

I’d been hoping for a final port of FE to give wiiu owners the missing 3ds content (although the game was so big I didn’t need to double dip) so I will gladly buy it again.
I was not expecting a Hyrule Warriors port! Now all we need is Skyward Sword Remastered .
I really loved Hyrule Warriors, but don't think we need it yet again.
@ekwcll Speak for yourself. I don't double dip unless it's either a) bundled with a bunch of BRILLIANT new content (ie Super Mario Bros. 3 with the e-reader levels) or b) comes with almost 20 other games I don't already have (SNES Classic Edition). Even if it's dirt cheap and it's a game I really like. One copy of Lost Levels on the Wii sitting in my parents' basement 2400km away is enough!
@Gregnetic That's probably a good thing, seeing as Nintendo has avoided lootboxes so far. But if you go to a site about non-Nintendo games, you'll see lots of articles about them. They're basically a way of gambling real-world currency for ingame rewards (which may or may not affect gameplay). Developers design them to be as addictive as possible (video game addiction is now a real disease, according to WHO), being sure to use fancy animations and bright colours.
https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/b/b9/Overwatch_loot_box.gif
They allow game companies to profit without actually incurring big developing costs, but they're exploitative and potentially game-breaking. Fortunately, gamers are starting to wise up. The PR disaster over Battlefront II game caused EA's stock value to fall by 8.5%, and the Walt Disney Company refused to give its blessing until the microtransactions were removed.
@euler, are you trying to tell me that a game like hyrule warriors definitive edition you wouldn't double dip even if you originally have it on the Wii u, especially with all the characters and maps from the Wii u and 3ds edition.?
It’s a bit sad to see the Wii U being treated as if it didn’t count, but with it’s total lifetime install base soon to be eclipsed by the Switch, it’s also good to see some of it’s games get another chance at a wider audience. I was hoping DKC:TF would be one of them, so this is welcome news. It’s also a game that ports easily, since it didn’t put the game pad to use at all.
I wouldn’t think any of the Wii U’s Mario titles would even get announced until Odyssey has been around a while longer, but they’ll all have some issues from their gamepad functions if they do. I’d really like to see 3D World get the same chance at a bigger audience, but those pad levels could be a problem. And Mario Maker was probably the best utilization of the pad, but there’s no way to port that without some compromise.
I doubt they’ll ever port every Wii U title to Switch, but whichever ones they do, it’s never going to be completely redundant thanks to the handheld mode.
@ekwcll I have only the 3DS version with no DLC, not the Wii U version (I have a massive backlog, given that I have a job, a thesis to write, other hobbies, etc). Like I said, it's possible in theory that I would double-dip on a game, but it would take a lot of truly amazing content.
Curious as to how they can improve Tropical Freeze apart from faster loading...it plays and looks fantastic as it is.
Did we really need another Hyrule Warriors port? I know obviously there are people who never got to play it on Wii U and it's scaled down on 3DS but...I don't think it's one of those must-play games tbh. It's a fun little spin-off but I can't say I ever had much appetite to go back and play it all again on 3DS, let alone again on Switch. It was just too repetitive really. I'd rather they worked on a new title to give us a reason to buy it.
I take it these will be full price titles ?
Hyrule Warriors really is THAT GOOD! I'll be playing through it all again - I hope they include a 60fps option like they did in Fire Emblem Warriors.
Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze - WAHEY!
Hyrule Warriors again? jesus christ...
