Another year, another Game Awards event. It was a pretty good one though, right? There were plenty of cracking game announcements for all platforms, including the Switch, and for your convenience, we've compiled them all for you right here. You'll find all relevant game trailers below along with a link to our original piece so you can get in on the conversation.
As a reminder before we begin, the big Game of the Year winner this year was Elden Ring, but Nintendo also took home a few gongs, including Best Family Game for Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Best Multiplayer Game for Splatoon 3, Best Action Game for Bayonetta 3, Best Sim/Strategy Game for Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope (okay, that one's really for Ubisoft), and Most Anticipated Game for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
We've also whacked a couple of polls at the bottom of this page to see what everyone's favourite announcement was, and to see what you think of the presentation as a whole, so get voting!

Before anyone inevitably brings this up, yes, we know games like Hades II aren't technically confirmed for Switch yet, but... Hey, I DO WHAT I WANT.
Bayonetta I guess, but there's not really much that that excites me at all TBH
I'd give it a C or D. It had a decently strong showing at the start, but it lost me halfway through. Although it did show off a lot of games I'm looking forward to, so I wouldn't call it a...complete waste of time.
@Dom_31 Geared towards zoomers? What does that even mean?
Definitely interested in Return to Castlevania DLC, Hades II & Earthblade. Didn’t watch the show… actually forgot about it entirely until seeing stories on it this morning.
Honestly, a D for me. Only thing that interested me a little bit was the new Mario movie trailer, but nothing else caught my intere- wait, Kirby and the Forgotten Land got best family game? Nevermind S tier Game Awards.
huge L to everyone who thought Zelda trailer at TGA
Hades two was the best and most hype announcement! (For me at least) hands down!
What was your favourite Switch announcement at The Game Awards 2022?
Me : NOTHING
What grade would you give The Game Awards 2022?
Me : F
I never like Game Award.
Glad I didn't watch at all.
Super pumped for Hades II ! The first was a 10 out of 10 game for me.
ARMORED CORE VI
SPACE MARINE
Easily the best announcements on there. The first Armored Core game to come to PC is especially exciting.
@Anti-Matter Ever the optimist! Never change, man.
'The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom' Game of The Year 2023!!! I'm calling it Now!
@Anti-Matter I actually completely agree with your comment. I'll also add that I'm very disappointed XC3 didn't get anything, not even best OST. Whatever the Game Awards are, they sure don't come across as entirely fair.
Seems like I didn't miss much, glad I decided to not bother watching. Not that I ever do lmao Oh well, I'll be getting the Fire Emblem pass anyway.
Wish I could have voted for the reformed Orthodox Rabbi Bill Clinton
I am beyond excited for Hades 2. It is now my most anticipated thing.
Overall, I would give it a solid B grade. Honestly went in thinking it would be a D- as the past ones felt mediocre and a let down.
There were enough announcements for every platform that I think it could have been the best set so far.
I’m super interested in Earthblade…but I assume it’ll be hard are heck…never could finish Celeste.
I can't be the only one pumped for the Feb 23rd drop of Blood Bowl 3... right?
Right?
Switch related, Hades II and Earthblade!
Then Armored Core VI, From Software doesn't miss. Good reveals
Fave announcement was Kirby winning.
Seeing some Castlevania is nice, but I don't much care gor "rogue...." games. I like the Baynoetta spin-off - nice art style there! On the Non-Nintendo front, Jedi: Survivor should be awesome like hte first game was.
DS2 was my favorite announcement, but there was a fair amount that was pretty exciting for me. I voted Earthblade here though, even if Fire Emblem is the game I want most from what had a showing. I’m just not a fan of dlc being announced before a game releases. Really solid Game Awards. As a PS5 owner too, there was plenty for me to be interested in. Feel bad for Xbox primary gamers. No first party release dates there, despit the fact that that should of be an urgent thing at this point.
Maybe it's a defense mechanism I've developed by sticking almost exclusively to Nintendo consoles, but none of the really gritty, actiony, graphically intense stuff coming out for other platforms gets me even remotely excited. I love the handful of games like that that make it to the Switch, but watching all those trailers back to back, I'd have a hard time distinguishing between most of them beyond whether they're sci-fi or fantasy. For what we did get, I'd normally be most excited for Bayonetta, but that definitely has a lower budget side project kind of feel. Earthblade and Hellboy could also be cool. I think I need to see more before I make a verdict on any of them.
Hades 2. All my yes! One of the best games I've ever played.
Very disappointed that Craig didn’t reveal the goldeneye release date. But that’s on me for having hope again.
Bayonetta and Hellboy have my attention. Never watch the show though, I don't really care for award shows. I'll decide over time what I want to play, and since I have no "next gen triple EH" systems, it's rarely the games they give awards to, yet there's plenty of award worthy content from past years on the Switch, and I can easily get ten great games, twenty or even way more if I try, for the price of one recent ps5 game that won this year's award or whatever.
I was actually pleasantly surprised by the show. I didn't watch it directly but caught up with the show afterwards. I went in with absolutely zero expectations and walked away with a few surprises, which is always good. Commercials this year were far less aggressive and the format actually gave time for the winners to speak! Quite a few high-profile indie games announced for Switch which is always a good sign. Overall, a massive improvement from previous years and probably the best show so far, I'd give it a B- for a solid outing but lacking that "wow" moment.
Yes, the best switch game: The Super Mario Bros. Movie
Nothing on the switch is really interesting to me. But Jedi Survivor looks like it will be incredible and that transformers game loos like it has potential.
i came out happy with Bayonetta, Hellboy, Street Fighters 6, Tekken 8, Baldur's Gate III...
BUT ALSO
AMORED CORE!!
I'm just happy an award was dedicated to reformed rabbi Bill Clinton. Best game awards ever. Except for the one where Knack 3 was announced.
Bayonetta was unexpected, but otherwise, meh. Especially not thrilled with the Fire Emblem season pass. From a Nintendo-perspective, I don't really expect much of anything from TGA, even when they were doing smash character reveals.
Way better than last year's show, with some real surprises. I give it a solid B.
Why isn't Bill Clinton on this list? I'm so proud of him for being nominated after reforming <3
Earthblade or Bayonetta Origins I'm most interested in. Kinda disappointed with Hades II tbh, Supergiant always has made very unique ARPGs with cool worlds that are distinct from each other, so it's disappointing to me to see a sequel which signals it will be more of the same.
I'm very excited about Earthblade and Hades II but for me the most intriguing announcememt was definitely Bayonetta Origins because it was so out of nowhere and looks utterly beautiful.
Decent show overall.
@Divide_and_Wander I just want to say, much respect for the faxanadu icon. phenomenal and underappreciated game.
Glad Splatoon 3 and Sparks of Hope got some recognition!
Did they have a category for most anticipated game console? 😉
Bill Clinton X George Bush Sr.: Tournament Edition for me!
@Diogmites Feels like I've been waiting well over a decade for Space Marine 2.. oh wait 🤣
I always go into the Game Awards expecting nothing. There’s usually not much revealed. Same with this year, but for what it was, I’d say it was a decent list of announcements. For the Switch, my favorite reveal was probably EarthBlade but none of the games really got me super excited.
I should mention that I haven’t played Hades yet. It’s on my bucket list lol.
I don't call many games "Perfect", but Hades is one of those games. So yeah, Hades II cant come sooner.
I'm super excited for Hades II, I also thought Earthblade looked good as well.
Can we just get dead cells 2 already? Stop messing around with DLC and just give us a sequel!
Since 2020 I feel Nintendo isn't the same anymore. Another TGA without great Nintendo announcements. Sad.
Nothing huge there in my opinion except maybe Hades 2 if it is confirmed for Switch (surely it will be?!). The Bayonetta origin game is okamiden-esque cool. I like the FE characters announced by they are paid DLC? We know a Super Mario movie is coming already. A C from me. Okay, not bad.
I don't care so much about the awards (the presenters at these awards shows are always so cringey and the acceptance speech that Christopher Judge gave was WAY too long). I am all about the trailers.
With that being said, I did not see Hades II coming and that alone made the show for me. The original is one of my favorite games, so I am excited to see how the sequel holds up.
Edit: I am not into Bayonetta, but the new game looked interesting. I give the show a B overall.
@pmdgv
To be fair Nintendo does most of its first party announcements in directs and a lot of the big third party games are targeting newer hardware (though some end up getting switch ports announced later during directs).
Good:
Bad:
Also:
@Mgalens Yeah... I think I just miss that times when Switch were more relevant in great events, not just in Nintendo Directs, ya know?
The cross gen period seems to be fading out for the other consoles. I hope this was the final Game Awards event where only the current Nintendo Switch gets announcements.
Overall, TGA 2022 wasn't too bad. It definitely wasn't great.
Pros:
Decent variety of games covered in the World Premieres.
Seeing well-known and recognizable members of the Gaming Industry, as well as some famous celebrities presenting awards.
Cons:
Chris Judge with that LONG acceptance speech.
The fact that some games were nominated for or won some categories they don't necessarily fit into compared to other nominations (God of War: Music, Accessibility; Eldin Ring: RPG are my examples)
God of War: Ragnarok, while I have no doubt must be a great game (no I haven't played it, but I'll say it) must have "bought" some wins from The Game Awards. It is less than a month old compared to most other nominations. If it had won Game of the Year, we would've lost our minds.
That all being said, TGA is a good thing, but I feel it can be out of touch with the gaming community as a whole sometimes.
Pretty lame for Nintendo video game content. Can’t remember if they did anything the year before.
What are they doing to Bayonetta? What’s with the huge tonal shifts? Is it to make it more marketable? I know the games aren’t huge successful hits, but the soul of this franchise seems to be lost atm.
The fact Bandai Namco missed the chance to announce that leaked We Love Katamari Reroll depresses me...
Hades was great, but I can’t do another… played it probably to much. Was hoping that the dead cells castlevania cross over was going to be a whole new game altogether, not just a DLC. Would have liked to see some gameplay!
None of these are for me, but nice too see. I'm still baffled by HK-Silk Songs lack of release.....I'd hoped it would be revealed by now
@Diogmites I mean it was announced back in the Spring or Summer with a trailer. I'll have to check out the new trailer. I'm extremely happy it's a continuation after being left on a cliffhanger for 11 or 12 years, lol
One day we'll finally get a new Castlevania, a new F Zero and Metroid Prime Trilogy switch
So much for the MP remaster being here for the "holidays".
Armored Core VI was the only thing that got me even slightly excited. Space Marine 2 also looks awesome, but we already knew about it. I'm starting to get super jaded with the majority of AAA games. Or maybe I've been jaded and it's getting worse each year. Yeah, that about sounds right.
@SonOfDracula Zoomers are 12 year olds right?
[Death Stranding 2 & ]Hades 2, couldn't ask for more.
@Diogmites Yeah, the main guy gets arrested and blamed for being a traitor at the end of the first game
