Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? (19th September)

@AussieMcBucket there’s a three book reimagining of Gilgamesh by Emily H. Wilson that my library had audiobook versions called the Sumerians trilogy. Didn’t have any other copy so I went with that one. Also recommend Crossing the Wine-Dark Sea, a collection of essays by a totally different Emily RC Wilson about translation of ancient classics.

Re: Metroid Ravenous Price And Box Art Revealed

@asdfghjklz commingled inventory gets counterfeits to customer with zero visibility into what happened and there’s a political aspect to this I would rather not go into onto a Nintendo website. I’d prefer to get all my physical games from Costco but they generally only carry first party Nintendo games on release, so Walmart is the least worst option IMHO for third party games. YMMV.

@DTfearTheBEARD yes I don’t trust either of Amazon or NewEgg anymore after both commingled inventory and screwed up orders, but some folks are addicted to the next day delivery. I hate Walmart but $10 is $10 and I can use free gift cards earned from Google and Microsoft search incentives.(it’s only about $2 a month for each but I’ll take it)

Re: Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct - Every Announcement and Trailer

@Bolt_Strike I agree with your sentiments but I only played the original once. In related note recently replayed Okami (first played Wii port) and realized I had forgotten 99 percent of what happens after the first big boss fight with the Orochi which is only about 25 percent of the way into that game. I might get this when there’s a lull in releases.

Re: Feature: Playing Until We Get It Right - How Perfectionism Appears In Gaming

I think I got to 97 percent in Mina the Hollower and gave up, the last few goals were some ridiculous mini games that I hated. I almost gave on the last stray bead in Okami, the race with Kai seems really unfair as they have an unnatural speed boost unavailable to you that looks like Mario Kart item pickup at preset locations in each segment - once got passed in last stretch because you lose momentum every level load but Kai does not, but finally beat it after a couple of days of play sessions. That challenge was the most difficult part of the game.

Re: Review: Onimusha: Way Of The Sword (Switch 2) - Capcom Delivers A Superb Samurai Revival

I’ve only played the demo but agree with voice language choice of review, English just feels wrong but maybe watching too much anime in Japanese has warped my brain. One thing I don’t see brought up is the deja vu of level design from the other RE engine games, Pragmata and RE Requiem, large looking areas but lots of constraints but maybe that’s a bit nitpicky, YMMV.

Re: Best Open World Games On Nintendo Switch 1 & 2

wooferjones

Immortals Fenyx Rising fits the criteria and possibly Shin Megami Tensei V, both are heavily discounted - the first should be gotten without any DLC and the second i think is only available with the added campaign under the name Vengeance, don’t buy a used/discounted one without the name Vengeance.

It’s a bit overwhelming to me how open world No Man’s Sky, YMMV.

It’s too bad Nier Automata Yorha is only a code in a box now, I got it on release and it has 1.0 on a cartridge.

I had a PS3 before I finally sold it so had the chance to play earlier non portable versions of Burnout Paradise, Assassin’s Creed and Fallout New Vegas (not the one listed) . If one has not had the chance to play those games on other platforms though, the sale prices are a good opportunity for one to try them now.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th August (North America)

Got the Pipistrello demo, it was fine but I finished Mina the Hollower last month and though not similar it reminded me too much of the experience. Finishing up Okami, I played the Wii version about twenty years ago and I only remembered up to the O***** fight, there’s lots I just plain forgot or I did not finish the game the first time!

Preordered Orbitals physical so have to wait for that to be delivered and Fire emblem same.
Okami is pretty big, not open world but lots of stuff to collect and it does a lot of hand holding until it doesn’t. It might be almost perfect for kids, there’s a few tragic deaths and human sacrifices that would need to be,um , explained or glossed over and a ton of reading - wish there was a review text option cause you don’t get second chance with a lot of it. Haven’t died once in combat in this run but remember dying in my first play through.

Re: Onimusha: Way Of The Sword Expanded Demo Now Available On Switch 2

wooferjones

@Max_the_German the mobile app is pretty convenient for this, you can be away from your switch 1-2 at work, order something via the app and it will start the download on your console. When I click the button about onimusha in the app and go to Nintendo web page it shows download demo as an option (in USA at least) also the mobile app is snappier than the eshop on the console for me but maybe my home internet is terrible, too.

Re: Elden Ring Switch 2 Preview Indicates That Performance Concerns Are A Thing Of The Past

wooferjones

@Ampelmann slightly off topic but even if you have an older laptop like me many PC games end up on sale and will run well and with mods to make games easier - there’s no way I could finish the difficult metroidvania Silksong on switch 2 as i got stuck at three different bosses (branching paths) but I used Silksong mods on PC to explore the world and finish the game, YMMV. I will probably get EldenRing at some point on Switch 2 since I don’t have very powerful PC or PS5 just to see what the fuss is about it.
