@Quorthon Agreed. I actually hope the Nintendo faithful buy their games, so they don't try to infest other platforms with it. I hope the platform he was referring too, was actually the 3DS, since Nintendo actually wants cheap phone games on that.

"the company's massive cast is enough to put the likes of Disney in the shade." That's a terrible lie. Disney's HUGE line of movies, shows, whatever other properties they own could topple Amiibo. Disney is also more willing to use those franchises, where Amiibo is going to be mostly Mario characters sprinkled with Legend of Zelda, and a very shallow showing of other properties and barely any third party efforts. The only Amiibo I'm interested in is Charizard because I love dragons. While adults are buying Amiibos as collectibles, parents are buying Skylanders/Infinity to stop annoying kids. Add in the fact that Nintendo pretty much guaranteed that most non-Mario/LoZ toys will go away, Disney can maintain that shelf space for longer periods. And only so many foolish people are going to buy Amiibos second hand, and NONE of that money goes to Nintendo at all.

@Beau_Skunk You forget, companies didn't just start skipping Nintendo. The Nintendo consoles owners stopped buying 3rd party games first, then companies stopped wasting money putting extras on Nintendo consoles. Nintendo themselves are just as culpable, since they make the console. They see it as being "unique", but they put all of these gimmicks into the design, then cut the power to make the gimmicks affordable. Nintendo is the reason that 3rd parties left in droves around the N64. They gouged the developers with their exclusive cartridges with the low storage, so the devs went to the other platforms and stayed away.

Re: Talking Point: Nintendo's Ambitious amiibo Plans - Pros and Cons

Honestly, Disney has just as memorable a range of characters, probably moreso, than Nintendo. Nintendo is more prominent in gaming, but like you said, it is a crowded shelf Nintendo is trying to find space on. How many different figures do they expect people to buy if one can be used with many games? People don't need 5 Mario toys when one will work in 6 games. Why would a bunch of people buy multiple Captain Falcon toys if it can only be used with one game? Too many questions, and no answers for them.
