Re: Nintendo Is "Acting To Protect The Industry" With Switch 2 Game Key Cards, Says Ex-Capcom Composer

@Mortenb This is such a nihilistic view. We're living in a time of immense corporate greed. It's one thing to expect a fair pay for given work but it's another to throw your hands up when companies are being anti-consumer. People should complain and they should take collective action. Yes it's good personal advice to say spend your time on yourself. That's good for your mental health sure. But to ignore this kind of anticonsumerism is wrong. It's just going to fester and get worse. Art should be preserved and pricing should be fair to the consumer and the creator. Enshitification is real and doing thing sole for the sake of profit, putting share holders above all else is absolutely horrible for society. Companies exist to sell products and services.

@FullbringIchigo It's not true for all physical Xbox games but it is true for most of them now. People were upset about this. But Microsoft has also done a lot more for backwards compatibility. Most of the original Xbox games that I care about and 360 games That I care about will still work with my series X. Yeah it's working as a physical key for a digital product but they're at least showing they're going to support it. That's pretty impressive for a 24 year old copy of Combat Evolved.
But people were still rightfully upset. It was basically pointless for me to buy Halo Infinite physically. But they can still be resold, traded, regifted et cetera because the disk isn't associated with your account. So it still has one of the major advantages of physical media. I can still get used Xbox or PlayStation games for cheap.

If I understand correctly you can't do that with key cards.

The other thing is the demographics have changed. Most gamers today are probably Gen Z and younger. Gen Y and older are well into adult life and probably have less time for gaming. Gen Y and older rejected always online consoles and games that were single player. They wanted control over their media. But Gen Z and you ger grew up with All digital being more prominent and they often lack the knowledge surrounding ownership and anticonsumerism. They just accept things as they are out of ignorance and of course companies take advantage of it. Because most CB c gamers are now buying all digital and are always online anyway there's just not enough pushback for companies to care.
