Re: Poll: How Would You Rate The Nintendo Classics Virtual Boy Launch Games?

XERXES_II

I had a Virtual Boy when it was new. I sold it to a pawn shop long ago to get rid of it.

I hope NL is working on a review of the plastic and cardboard versions.

Here is my feedback based on prior experience and looking at these 2 options.

1. Nintendo showed these games running full screen without the 3D effect in previews. They could easily do the same now without requiring the purchase of a peripheral, but are instead keeping it behind a subscription + peripheral purchase. 3D is OH COOL and then oh whatever.

2. The VB is best used in the dark or dim lighting to reduce any light bleed from other sources. It is not required, just my recommendation.

3. The VB controller is so basic that its absence won't be missed.

4. With the Switch in either the plastic or cardboard version it may not be possible to charge it.

5. If you have a protective skin on your Switch it will likely have to be removed in order to slot the Switch in either version.

6. To properly use the plastic version, for the sake of posture you should 1) put it on a flat surface and have an adjustable chair or 2) put it on a flat surface and use something (books, etc.) to elevate the VB to your face. The greatest drawback of the VB is the position you have to put your body in to use it for any length of time.

7. To properly use the cardboard version, you have 3 options. 1) Hold the Switch with joycons attached up to your face while ensuring a good seal. Expect pain. 2) Hold the Switch with joycons attached up to your face while ensuring a good seal and positioning your elbows on a flat surface for support. Expect less pain. 3) Lay down on your back and balance the Switch on your face with joycons detached so your arms can be in a comfortable position. Your neck may get stiff from the balancing act.

I imagine someone crafty will make something to head mount these things.

Some have wondered why Mario's Tennis (VB) is not available at launch. That wouldn't do because then it would be competing with the just released Mario Tennis Fever.
