Re: Hardware Classics: Sega Saturn

Thulfram

I remember the Saturn primarily for Panzer Dragoon Saga. I keep hoping somehow it could be ported to anything. What a game! 5 disks of living in a truly alien world and battling by riding on deadly dragons. I finished it. Later I was hard up for money and sold it and now regret it. Lot of cool Saturn stuff, not so much for the Dreamcast, except for Skies of Arcadia, and lucky for all of us, that was redone on the Game Cube!

At least I have the music for Panzer Dragoon Saga, but why won't someone recreate it? I heard a rumor that someone had destroyed all the code/assets, but I can't believe that even Sega would allow that to happen. Heck, it would probably run great on a 3DS!

Re: Video: This Bravely Default Story Trailer Goes For An Epic Approach

@Spoony_Tech I get the impression that Etrian Odyssey Untold has a bit more story built in, so I might give that a try. I just read somewhere that Level 5 has registered a name in the US for a RPG. I want another game as good as DQIX or Ni No Kuni. Thanks for answering. This board is really full of Nintendo-smart people!

@unrandomsam
Nice list. I've played a lot of the DQ on PS2, loved DQIX on DS, Solatorobo is a forgotten gem. I need to look at Radiant Historia again. I really want more new RPGs to come out for the 3DS. I played through the demo of Bravely Default but it seemed too easy. I want something like Ni No Kuni but there isn't anything else like that. Any other recommendations?

Re: iPhone Gaming Controller Could Mean "The End Of Nintendo", Claims Investment Site

Thulfram

These new controllers (Logitech and MOGA) are approved by Apple and are using their new iOS API for controllers. A lot of iOS games are really hard to play without a controller (I'm thinking of the Zelda ripoff OceanHorn) where your fingers get in the way of the screen. So they may catch on, although at $100, that's pretty expensive, so they may not catch on. And, it looks like they will make the iPhone too large to fit in your pocket!

Phone memory is pretty restricted. I had one of those Xperia Play phones and it was a total waste because it had barely enough memory to play more than a few games and run basic apps. I liked the idea of a slide-out controller like they had, but it just didn't have the memory to sustain anything.

If you want real game play longer or more deep, the 3DS is the way to go. You can't get even a tenth of the experience on any phone that you can from the 3DS. The new Zelda, Dragon Quest IX, Pokemon X, Animal Crossing, those games last forever!

Re: Interview: Dakko Dakko on Scram Kitty and his Buddy on Rails, Clever Cats and Utilising the Wii U

I'm sure a major source of inspiration was "The 2D Adventures of Rotating Octopus Character" (great title). It had the character crawling on the walls and ceilings and moved very fast, but in a way you could work with. I really wish they would bring that to the Wii U also. They also did "Floating cloud god saves the pilgrims" (a cool strange fast shooter). Both were Sony games, but should really be on Wii U. I guess that explains the new title, "Scram Kitty and his buddy on rails." Their titles aren't dull and neither are their games. Treasure! Gunstar Heroes! Ikaruga! (But with a little bit more humor.)

Octopus is already on Vita - not sure about Floating guy. Both are really fun, fast, and really tight.

Re: Video: Here Are Some Reasons to Love Animal Crossing: New Leaf, If You Need Them

I played the DS version and now I'm heavily addicted to the new one for 3DS.

@TheOneHacker Not everyone likes every game (not even me). But this isn't exactly a game you try to "win" and the point is to just explore and see how it works. I find it a great way to get away from my hectic daily life.

If you follow a few simple guidelines, you can have a great town. Write letters to the other characters, talk to them, pull weeds, and (with this version), do public projects. I just funded a bridge.

There's a trick to making money. At night, go to the island and catch bugs. They sell very well. I'm averaging 100,000 bells a day without much trouble.

I also like arranging my furniture, just like I did in Ultima Online.

So enjoy it for what it is.

Re: Review: Chain Blaster (3DS eShop)

Thulfram

This looks cool and I bought it.

Can anyone recommend any other space shooters (shmups?) on the 3DS (or Wii U?). I've always avoided them because I had bad reaction time, but that problem seems to be clearing up.

I started thinking about space shooters after having a lot of fun with Mii Force.

Re: Review: Witch & Hero (3DS eShop)

Thulfram

This game has really gotten under my skin and I love it. I didn't understand some of how it worked for a while - when you die, you don't lose your weapons and armor, and you keep half of your money. So dying isn't such a problem, and you will die a lot! I also didn't realize (until I read this review) the hero can regain hit points faster if you wiggle him around fast.

I still can't figure out the "magic sword". I have beaten the "Get the Magic Sword" level several times but I still don't have the magic sword. Is this a problem of translation/presentation? Do they just mean you'll want to get the magic sword eventually, or what?

The game could definitely be improved upon but is still fun and addicting, in an RPG masochistic way. I stayed up half the night last night just doing that "one more go" kind of thing. Brilliant!

Re: Iwata: Japanese Third Parties Investing More In 3DS Software

Three words: Ni No Kuni. This game belongs on Nintendo. It was written for children (and originally appeared on the DS in Japan). Take Level-5, add Ghibli, and you have a masterpiece that you will never want to leave. I loved this on the PS3, but imagine it on the Wii U. While you play the game on your TV, you could be reading the Wizard's Companion on the GamePad. A perfect use for the Wii U.
