@rjejr I would not be surprised if the 3DS amiibo portal was a front since they hadn't announced new 3DS at the time. It's in Nintendo's interest to guide ppl into buying a new console as opposed to buying a small accessory. Not to mention it had no product design to speak of, it was just an unwieldy white puck
My bet is it goes the way of the vitality sensor, cuz if it came out it would shoot them in the foot (not to mention be more rare than a GameCube controller adapter due to niche need)
Even if it's a few months away it feels like the weird time before E3 where the news slows down so I doubt we will hear anything of great significance even if there is a Nintendo direct cuz they will wait to save the big guns for the show.
With that in mind they could focus on third party content or indies and share a lot of info, as well as do a single-game focused direct about anything they are releasing before E3
