I don't think it was easy, the last boss and some of file 12 I'm working through was pretty brutal for me. None of it felt cheap though, it's just a really cool combat system! The only thing I'd want to improve is make it easier to switch lock-on targets, I felt the same way about Bayonetta 1 (haven't played 2 yet)...
