Giving this filth anything higher than a 4 is downright absurd. This isn't a "game". It is a micro-transaction hellscape with a barely passable "game" attached to it. It is corporate exploitation and manipulation at its worst. It doesn't matter if it "plays well", because that isn't its purpose. Stop supporting this kind of trash.
The Game Awards are the gaming equivalent of Youtube Rewind at this point. Suck off what's popular and shill out to the highest bidder. No Man's Sky winning best ongoing was a massive surprise though, considering Fortnite is the biggest corporate shill of them all.
If Mario's 35th was anything to go by, almost nothing noteworthy will happen. Probably another no effort 3D collection with emulations of Ocarina, Majora and Wind Waker. I have low expectations of Nintendo these days. Even with that they still manage to disappoint to some extent.
I hope people realize that being totally okay with Nintendo shutting a tournament down because of "illegal or doctored copies" of a game opens the floodgates again for Nintendo to shut down all sorts of other things, including massive amounts of Youtube content.
Though, it is funny how Nintendo apparently despises the idea of Melee tournaments but does nothing against things like broadcasted speedruns of Link to the Past randomized or anything similar.
Regardless of what one things about the Smash community and all of the stuff going on around it, Nintendo is no saint and never will be. They are a giant, soulless corporation like any other and they show that time after time again, yet people still treat them like the christ of gaming.
Also I adore one comment earlier that was like "Yeah sure Microsoft has been WAY more pro-consumer than Nintendo in every single regard for a while now, but they have no games that anyone wants so BLEH who cares."
Speak for yourself. Xbox and Nintendo are my two main systems and I can safely say that it certainly feels better that Microsoft, even as a fellow giant corporation, at least treats its consumers with a bit of respect. Nintendo doesn't know that concept. That comment was such a massive jostling of Nintendo's balls.
@Wilforce I mean, sure, but hardly ever discounting 7 year old Wii U ports? Hyrule Warriors for one example, you'd think with it being a 6 year old game from the Wii U AND the fact that a new game in that series just came out, why not celebrate that by discounting the other one? They won't even put it on sale for a half decent price, let alone do a permanent price drop.
While I get what you're saying, I have no doubts that arrogance plays a role in what they do and how they decide these things. A massive sense of "We're just so good that we never need to discount anything."
Nintendo having any kind of decent sale on their first party titles would require them to not be constantly high off of their own fumes. Nintendo is a company of immense arrogance. I can play brand new first party titles day one with Xbox Game Pass for $10 a month (as well as a ton of other good stuff), but Nintendo can't even discount 6-7 year old ports from the Wii U to as low as half? Arrogance and greed. Greedogance.
