Re: Japanese Virtual Console list - April 2008

The Japanese version of the game utlised a special Konami-developed chip, the VC might have trouble emulating it. Isn't that the reason given for why we haven't gotten the original Star Fox yet?

I don't think the Wii would have any issues emulating the SuperFX chip to be honest. This can be done on Snes9x and zSnes for years (not that I would know anything about emulators....) ;p

The PC Engine was a mythical video games system to me back in the early nineties. I remember looking at screenshots of R-Type and Bonk in CVG magazine and Mean Machines (thanks guys) and being impressed by the colourful and detailed graphics. This is a great addition to the VC and I will definitely download Rondo of Blood when it is released in Europe. I highly recommend Bomberman '93 as it is the best multiplayer game on the VC so far in my opinion.

I never had a Master System as I had a NES, but I do remember playing Alex Kidd in Miracle World and Sonic the Hedgehog at a toy store display and being quite jealous of the impressive colour pallette in comparison to my technically inferior NES. Compare Double Dragon on the two systems on youtube and you will see what I mean!

@Bensei: The Master System was far more successful in Europe than it was in the States (especially in the UK) so it will be available here don't worry. The NES was the 8-Bit powerhouse across the water with many gamers not even having heard of the Master System. Oh and Dazza, working on a Saturday morning? That's dedication for ya! Fair play!!

We have this game to thank for saving video games after the crash in 1983. If it wasn't released, who knows what would have happenened? Five stars.

I had this game back in the day for my Toaster. It was incredibly frustrating and nigh on impossible to figure out some of the puzzles. Back then, NES games cost between 40 and 50 pounds so you just had to stick with it and play a game to death. I must say, the music in the game is fantastic, there is no denying that (just check out all the renditions people have of these tunes on youtube if you don't believe me) and the graphics were well detailed too. It is a classic game, but thank god for the internet and FAQ's if you are planning on downloading it!

I will never forget playing Super Mario Bros. on my cousins NES when I went on holidays to New York when I was eleven. It was simply magical. That Christmas I got an NES bundled with the awful (but I thought it was brilliant at the time) TMNT. Pure joy. I don't think I have ever been as excited as when the ads for Super Mario Bros. 3 were shown on tv with all those kids all over the world shouting "Mario! Mario!" This system is why I am a 29 year old gamer!
