@RetroGames Thats fine and all but again just because you need to write to a certain level and to a specific demographic doesn’t mean you should get lazy with the writing to the point you start coasting as Illumination all too often does.

@RetroGames you logic make it seem like you think Animation can’t or shouldn’t reach the same heights as live action. And yes well the craft of “animating” is integral to the form it can account for nothing if the the writing isn’t as sufficiently strong. Film needs to embody the whole package at the end of the day.

Personally I feel like most icon character is too broad a term. I feel like you could get more interesting result if you set up the vote more like “most beloved video game character” or most popular vide gym character at this time” or “biggest breakout game character”.

And even if he didn’t make it to the top Mario still made pretty high into second place. Seriously the amount of people griping about him and sonic not being top of the list here is honestly infuriatingly to me. Just be glad that they made the list at all.

@Antraxx777 I think that’s more in the context of him being boring due to lack of clearly defined character beyond default happy guy which works from a gameplay first perspective where the character is kind of a vessel for the player.

@RoomWithaMoose Even if Chief does have the bigger cultural footprint Samus and DoomGuy are at the fairly least pretty influential. In fact their latest games have fared better than anything Halos really managed in the last few years.

@RetroGames I mean sure the Mario movie was technically impressive but it’s wiring was kinda meh frankly.

I’ll be watching only because I registered for the steam deck giveaway. I am a bit confused though as to which time I should be watching because when I registers the confirmation box said I should watch the live stream commencing 8th December 17:00 PT even though the UK where I live is GMT and the GA doesn’t start for it until 12:30 the following day. It could be the steams service made a mistake but I just need to make sure so that I’m ready.

With all the current issues the game is experiencing right now, I think blizzard really needs to fix things up quickly if it hopes to grow that number. Personally I’m gonna waiting and see if the PvE mode has any effect when it arrives.

@KindofaBigDeal you sure it’s not because both games are just getting on in years I mean they were both released close to the turn of the millennium.

I get the feeling my country the UK either doesn’t care for JRPGs as much as other places (even it’s own gaming awards ceremonies rarely acknowledge them) or the releases economics favour those franchise that resort to annual releases such as Assassins Creed as opposed to things like Xenoblade which have (and perhaps need) longer development times.

@JasmineDragon Occasionally you do get instances of films doing well financially and artistically, though the opposite as you say is true. The same applies to video games at times, such as the odd indie darling that doesn’t get the attention of let say Call of Duty or Super Mario Bros but still gets its prises sung anyway.

If it is its probably akin to like a soft reboot since the basic story is relatively the same up to a point.

@steventonysmith There's only like a 2 year gap between Remake and Rebirth. Part 3 was also announced as being in production around the same time Rebirth was announced in that livestream back in June meaning a similar wait time for part 3 would be likely depending on if a generation jump does happen. The fact there would be 3 parts was also a part of it, meaning if you check other game journalism sties they'll say be saying what's already been
shown.

Don’t know why but Resident Evil just keeps getting hit with these low quality adaptations and with increasingly diminishing returns. How long is it gonna be before some director or creative visionary breaks the vicious cycle and gives viewers one that actually doesn’t suck?

I largely stopped caring about of overwatch once it was apparent the narrative wasn’t even going anywhere, despite having never played it myself. While the addition of PvE campaign looks a much needed step in the right direction, it’s unclear yet if it will fully make up for the past years of feet dragging. The sexual misconduct revelations last year haven’t exactly helped either.

@OldManHermit True but this only a conceptual render. If approved I imagine an Official model would be a bit more complex. Hell, Calamity Ganon could be an entire large scale build in itself.

sigh Have British consumers got nothing better to do than play Mario Kart 8 all day? It just baffles me that even with all the other options that exist for the Switch nowadays, people still go back to that one game for their kicks.

Couldn't and wouldn't say The Witcher was "Heartstopping" on account of me not only not seeing much of it but not exactly liking what I saw.

As for the Pokemon Anime the whole thing always seemed like an anomaly, an overstreched marketing gimmic that didn't always add much to the main games. That, and as far accusations of stagnation within the franchise go the anime was often singled out as the worst offender for it which may have ultimatley necessitated the change in direction that the Sun and Moon half took and now again with 'journeys' though having not seen either, I can't really measure how much of of difference they had if any.

For me I’m kinda wishing the Pokemon franchise would get it’s act together so we don’t have another repeat of the backlash and disappointment of Gen VIII. Granted, Legends: Arceus seems like a promising shake up, but until it is played, one can’t say for certain.

Sigh when are people gonna learn to stop giving game freak money they’re not gonna do anything meaningful with.

Jesus, this like when people started defending the Star Wars prequels even though they clearly had problems. Did people randomly just decide they’re okay with it now and conveniently forget how theIt original judgment contributed the series going on indefinitely hiatus until at least 2017 when the remake of Samus Returns came out. Between Dreads development controversy, Prime 4’s delay and now this, I really don’t know what’s up with Metroid now or what to believe.

Fair enough, some people did. I just wasn’t among those who took interest.

It’s not often that a successful game gets development backlash, especially if it happens to be one from under Nintendo the last place you’d even expect this kind of thing to come from. Loving the game but kinda hoping the company acts to address these issues before more goodwill is lost.

Even as someone relatively new to Metroid, it’s good to see the series is standing it’s ground.

Considering giving the pervious NMH games a try before the third. They seem to have that dumb but cool aesthetic going on.

@locky-mavo As someone who's never cared for it, I still find it baffling that the original show never got the same level of care as the movie did. Maybe the shows reception wouldn't have been as divisive if they'd just done that from the start.
