I've heard a lot of people put off by the character design, while others (like myself) find it so silly we're intrigued. It's a pretty solid turn based RPG, and I hope the sequel is released eventually.
@Chriiis: I'm getting the 3DS XL on day one. Giant hands + giant screens + Colors!3D + New Art Academy = Win.
I don't care what it looks like, I care about the games it plays. In fact, I look forward to make it bigger with a battery add on. I'm sure Nyko will want a piece of that action.
People ask, Nintendo answers. Now all the hate will be poured towards the system's aesthetics, but we all know the haters are dying to play CPP compatible games in a big screen. Not that I give a crap either way.
Really, guys. It's not like Nintendo is sending ninjas to destroy everyone's original models overnight. Enjoy yours, and be happy that they are catering to even more people; more sales means more money for the games we geek out about.
I don't give 2 craps about the CPP, that was obviously a stop gap solution to court some developers. 15+ million would have been left out in the cold if they had added a second one, and THAT would have been a dumb move. The execs @ the company are shrewd, smart people. That's why they came out on top with underpowered systems this gen. The whole "Y u so stoopid" thing is not true.
Me? I'm ordering it as soon as Amazon lets me. It's an individual choice, and I'm happy I have the option.
@GreenDream You're right! Thumb length would affect that control scheme. Anyways, none of the games I enjoy routinely in my 3DS requires the CCP; no big deal to me.
Anyways, here's where you can get one to experiment (if you live in the US, of course!): http://goo.gl/vmYwP
@GreenDream: Regarding the thumb stylus comment, I had some of the original DS thumbstraps lying around and tried to play Kid Icarus with one. It was too slow to be any good. I had a similar experience years ago playing Metroid Prime Hunters with stylus vs strap.
@aaronsullivan: Your reasoning is 90% more compelling than most. I don't give two figs if it looks "cool". Or that it's missing an OPTIONAL second analog.
I care that it has huge screens, its more comfortable to grip and it is home to games with enormous replay value. The fact that it will be a perfect digital sketchbook is gravy.
The missing charger and/or cradle can probably be traced to serious marketing research. They found what they think is the ideal price point and had to cut some corners to maintain it; greed cost them a lot with the original model's launch.
@Cloud-San-VII: That's the whole point. Then the 15+ million of people who already have a 3DS would have an obsolete console. DSi had different guts from regular DS, and all they were used for was for piracy control.
@Joshers744: The 3D screen has been available for a while; they probably waited until production was cheap or they could leverage demand to get a good price.
I don't get why everyone is bashing it's looks; it looks like a very high end toilet seat. With a honking huge 3D screen and Nintendo games; I hear other companies may continue to support it too.
Reasons I want it: -This will fit nicely in my huge hands. Looking forward to play Blazblue without crippling myself. -The screen will be a boon for painting with Colors3D. -I'm certain DS games will look great in native resolution. -Portability is not an issue for me, I usually carry a backpack or a laptop bag wherever I go. Worse case scenario, I stop by oldnavy.com and stock up on cargo pants; I'm fashion minded like that. -CPP is not a deal breaker for me, I'm interested in the GAMES, not the HARDWARE. Smart developers will figure a way to deal with any disadvantage. -I was saving for this, so it's a day one purchase for me.
Shut up and take my money. I'd love it to have better battery life, a second slide pad and more space for downloads, but I already have my pre-order money ready.
@Tate24 It has infinite undo, 5 layers, export to SD accessible to mail and to swapnote, 3 canvas orientations, pressure toggles, integrated gallery, high res export, etc.
As much as I love Art Academy, Colors!3D takes advantage of the 3DS technical capabilities much better.
@PrimedMetroid Like I said, you can see all comments and paintings made on a 3DS. For anything made using other systems, the app offers to launch a browser.
@Vallu The gallery is an regular website, anyone can see your stuff unless you flag it as 18+. 18+ can only be viewed if you have an account. Also if you export to the SD card, you can just open gmail in your browser and send it, as it picks it up like any other photo.
There is no way to search the gallery like per painter yet. The developer has mentioned that he is considering an update, so there is hope for that yet.
@warioswoods I couldn't agree more. I get more out of Colors! than from my Android tablet with the same type of screen, or out of an iPad, which probably has one of the least artist friendly screens. I mean, you have to be an art prodigy to get something decent looking out of an iPad.
Colors! on the other hand, allows someone with minimum skills to do worthwhile stuff without worrying too much about the technique. It's like using a sketchbook.
@grumblegrumble The use of layers is optional, you can do everything in a single layer if you want. I'm using it for 2D art exclusively, and the results are very good.
What you have to take into account is that the tool set, controls and gui are made to fit the 3DS, and thus it's very different from the stuff you get from Photoshop, Sai, etc. There are obvious limitations due to this, but there are advantages that become obvious as you continue to use it.
I've been using it since it came out, and it beats the crap out of the painting apps in my Android tablet. Ease of use, an attractive UI, and the ability to export the paintings make it an instant purchase. In fact, I'll often sketch something out and then use as a base to finish the drawing on my PC.
My only gripe is that the 3DS screen is too small. I need a 3DS XL NOW.
It's worth every penny and then some. The one problem I find is that I cannot export to the gallery... getting the card out every time is a nuisance and potentially could wear the flimsy hinge on the card cover.
Other than that, it's pretty impressive as a drawing tool.
Sorry, but there is no comparison between Flipnote and this app, because they have fundamentally different scopes. The best drawing and painting app for DSiware is Art Academy, and the best animation tool is Flipnote. We'll see where things stand on Monday when Inchworm is released.
Also, implying that children are "simple-minded" is a bit of broad statement, in my opinion.
I have enjoyed the Art Academy "games" immensely; if you have any artistic inclinations at all, you should definitely think about getting either the DSiware app or the retail cart.
Here's a video of an artist reproducing a Van Gogh, and on the sidebar you can find one each for a Caravaggio and a Morandi. Be forewarned they are in Spanish: Art Academy Van Gogh

Re: Review: The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave (3DS eShop)
@rjejr: The game detects routers and creates Denpamen using whatever esoteric means, it does not need to connect to the internet.
Re: Review: The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave (3DS eShop)
@Cengoku: The game is solid even without Japanese munchkin voices.
Re: Review: The Denpa Men: They Came By Wave (3DS eShop)
Guys, remember to post your reviews in the eShop; support a great game.

Re: Nintendo Download: 27th September 2012 (North America)
Denpamen for me! I've been deprived of RPGS on the 3DS and I found it to be real fun.
My daughter loves it as well, so if sje plays the demo enough, I may consider gettig it for her. Beig able to import your save was a genius move.
