Thank You Nintendo Life, everyone takes these things too seriously, Miyamoto even smiled as though he wasn't being serious. The biggest giveaway to it being a simple joke was the fact that these are only VIDEO GAME characters which he made, he was answering sarcastically because Nintendo doesn't have a real answer for the question and he practically made all the characters himself so as the creator of Super Mario he's jokingly stating in a way that he's the parent to all his video game characters, he had no answer to whom "virtually speaking".
