A little odd to not mention the MegaAttack (lock on) at all in the review since that is where the verticality in Star Force’s battle system comes from and I’ve already seen a few reviews of this that appear to not even know you can do it, which is wild because it’s explained to you in the tutorials.
Still nice to see this series review well overall, it deserved so much better back in the day.
This looks like a vast improvement over the Battle Network Legacy Collection's online component, Looks like they took a page from Capcom Fighting Collection's book and let you choose which games you'd like to Queue up for all in one convenient place! And also for those uninitiated the rental decks will be a huge boon for newcomers just trying to get their foot in the door in PvP, think of it like Rental Pokemon in the old Stadium games, not likely to outperform your actual party but something you can work with until you get your main party properly developed.
The multiplayer components are really fun and really deep in these games, so much so that Capcom actually held annual official tournaments in Japan for each entry!
Mega Man Star Force Legacy Collection for me! I've been waiting to see this specific set of games return for years and based on the previews Capcom went above and beyond! and only $39.99! The 27th can't get here fast enough!
Star Force is my favorite Mega Man sub-series I have been waiting for this collection specifically for years and it's exceeding expectations! while I'm not the same exactly i can see where @StewdaMegaManNerd is coming from tbh.
A Legends Collection is absolutely inevitable, historically Capcom has shown Legends more attention than Star Force since both of their runs ended, Legends characters are in fighting games, Servbots cameo all the time, Legends got a new comic recently, Tron was in Project X Zone, they haven't forgotten about Legends and they don't even pretend to want to.
Think about Star Force by comparison, most of you have never played it and some of you have never even heard of it prior to this collection being announced, with this MMSFLC, Legends LC is not a matter of if, it's a matter of when, and that's all there is to it, they wouldn't make a collection for everything else and then leave it out.
That said yes I understand Stew to a degree because as someone who really advocates for Star Force and thinks more people should give it a shot, it can be draining to see people find a way to ignore everything written, shown, or said from anything related to this release so they can find a way to make this about Legends or X9 instead, While I would like those as well It would not kill half of you to expand your horizons, and Star Force deserves this release, It hasn't had spotlight of it's own since it's time on store shelves and there is was a victim of timing rather than being observed on its own merit, this collection is something of a redemption arc for it, I don't really need to hear about some other Mega Man game instead there's a time and a place.
Unfortunate but fair review, before people see a middling number and write this off I just want to say there was a lot of love put into it and I think this is a good game, for the asking price $39.99, the amount of content it contains, the general gameplay loop, it's a fun time but it could use a patch or two maybe something to bolster its difficulty level.
I have been playing this quite a bit lately on PS5 and double dipped on Steam because I was that surprised by how much I was enjoying it, Even personally here I think the visuals and presentation manages to shine, I understand what the review is saying about them but honestly if you've ever seen Persona or Yakuza cutscenes, the ones that happen in between most of the moment to moment scenes and not the more complex special event cinematics, it's about the same as those, maybe even slightly more animated tbh.
The main takeaway imo is just not to buy this for Switch, but other platforms if you like TMNT or a decent character action game and one you can play with a buddy even, you could do a lot worse than Mutants Unleashed, This is really the only good game I think Outright has ever published honestly, and I would love to see it get improved upon or followed up.
Again just play this anywhere else besides Switch if you're remotely curious.
Several years from now when this game is old news, you'll see it popping up in video game or licensed game hidden gems videos, Mark my words.
