I'm getting this for sure.

I was on the fence until I saw it's only $50, which I think is a great call. Been a long time since I played the original 64 game so there's a good chance I pick this up.

Hopefully they’ll put out a demo, if not then I’ll wait for reviews

Without a doubt Day 1. I played Star Fox 64 to death as a kid. $50 is a steal.

Honestly I'm super excited. I thought the original game was one of the best games on the N64. Those new cutscenes look really good (really liked the prologue they showed!) and the $50 price point might make me pick it up sooner rather than later.

This is a huge pass for me because that art style my god is so freaking hideous 🤮. It's like nintendo pulled an ugly sonic stunt but with Fox and co.

People complain too much, it looks fine to me, and since I skipped out on Zero, I'm fine with a N64 remake I guess. Kinda confused on why they did this, though, usually Nintendo only does remakes ONCE per game. They could've done Assault or something, I dunno.

I think it's nuts that we're doing this story a 5th time but yes I'll buy it on a sale. And I really hope they'll make new sequels on Switch 2. I wonder who's developing it.

Edit: The three major gaps in the Switch 1 library was Donkey Kong, Star Fox, and F-Zero. Now in the first year of Switch 2 we have Donkey Kong and Star Fox so I am fully expecting an F-Zero revival.

Not sure... The first Star Fox game I ever played as a kid was Star Fox Adventures, which I really liked because the gameplay reminded me of Zelda. The periodic on-rails shooter segments for when you travel to the planet was a nice change of pace from that, but it wasn't what I was most interested in.

So when I later learned that that game was actually an exception to the franchise in terms of gameplay and that the on-rails segments was actually the main feature in the other games, I was a little disappointed. As a result I haven't played any of the other games in the series beyond a little bit of Star Fox 64, which I didn't finish because, while I like the franchise's world and characters, I don't gel too much with the actual gameplay.

But I used to also not have great feelings towards Zelda: Twilight Princess when I first played it as a kid, but then appreciated it much more when I played it again years later. So perhaps I may feel the same way for Star Fox if I get and try this remake.

No interest in it myself but my roommate will probably pick it up so I'll likely at least play it at some point.

Gonna wait till it hits my library, not spending money on another remake.

If it was an original story, Day One for sure. But the thought of going through the story and levels of 64 again is just killing my enthusiasm. I played the 3DS version so much that I know those levels well. I’ll have to wait and see how different it is and what content is added.

I’m torn because I want to support Star Fox and keep getting games, but I’m just not excited about retreading ground we’ve covered time and time again. I don’t know why Star Fox in particular is stuck in this cycle of reboots reintroducing the cast to new players that then ultimately leads to nothing.

I’ll get it eventually for sure, but Day 1 is up in the air.

I can't fully explain why, but if this game delivers, this might finally be the title to get me to pull the trigger on S2 (unless they shadow drop a new Xenoblade). My backlog and life generally made it take a back seat but man I'm a sucker for Star Fox, even a remake.

I'm... torn. On one hand, I'm like one of the only people alive who prefers the 64 OST to the original, and this being a closer remake of 64 is way better than that Zero nonsense that was hella mid. On the other I would've preferred something that took place later in the timeline, new enemies, etc. Also would prefer the ability to just play as Falco in the 1P mode.

I think the graphics look pretty awesome honestly, thank god it isnt star fox adventures. Was wanting something new, but oh well. I'll definitely get this digitally.

More than a remake, this propels itself as a full reboot with one of the best announcements a mid-range budgeted game can have.

With that in mind I hope the best for this game's success. If this is what a fully reimagined N64 remake of Star Fox can look, imagine what a bigger AAA Star Fox game could be...

It only needs a movie for this to be compared to the Ratchet and Clank 2016 situation.

I’ve not really played much Starfox in the past (really just the Starlink game), but the online dogfighting sold me on it. Day one purchase for me.

I know we all wanted a space epic; possibly open world. However, the more I think about it the more I am okay with this being a reimagining of SF64/Lylat Wars. Take classic tried and true gameplay with a modern sheen, new cpntrol options, challenges, and online multiplayer. It looks gorgeous and if this is the way forward with 'legacy' titles I'm for it. Bring on OoT remake during the Summer Direct!

Not the Starfox I was hoping for but looks pretty good. It is all on the cart which is a big pro but I’m keener on FF7 Rebirth and Elliot Millennium coming out around then

@MTMike87 Yeah I think you’re right. It’s called STAR FOX, with no numbers, “Remake”, “remastered,” or anything. Makes me think — especially with the cinematics — this is a smart and safe fresh start for the franchise to see if it has new legs. I’m into it!

Nope, when I saw the character designs I seriously thought it was AI and thought it was a bad joke when they announced it was another remake of 64. Last two games were remakes, it's readily available on NSO. "Oh but they need to reintroduce the series to a new generation" no they don't. I'm sick of these excuses, Nintendo can go kick rocks, literally the last thing I wanted was this crap remade for the billionth time

@PokemonDMG hahahaha funny but Nintendo Switch 2 version is full remake of original game not remaster or remake of 3DS version of Star Fox but it's bring some contents from 3DS version of Star Fox to ground it up and improve it with full remake. 3DS version of Star Fox 64 is more like 50% remastered or remake but Switch 2 version is full remake with new and changes and more contents then before.

No, not buying this product. Just putting a prediction out now. On this rerun of Star Fox, James McCloud will still be alive, because the concept of death is upsetting and we wouldn't want to upset the child/childlike audience we're targeting.

If you were a kid in 1994, you probably loved this arcade-y rail shooter. Then, in 1996, seeing it get remade in 3D probably blew your mind. Then, in 2011 (once you started earning your own money to spend) you probably jumped at the chance to play an upgraded/remastered version in handheld mode that touched your nostalgia. Then, in 2016, you might've hesitantly spent more money on another remake/reboot that tried to mix handheld and TV modes. And now...in 2026, you can spend more money, to play another upgraded remake, that mixes handheld/TV modes, and was probably made to touch on your nostalgia again.

If it gets above an 88 on metacritic, I'll probably pick it up. Looks really fun, but time is tight at the moment, only sink my limited gaming time into truly fun games.

having such a hard time with this. And it pains me to say it because I'm a BIG Star Fox fan. Still play 64 to this day. But this just isn't doing it for me. Yet another aesthetic change, a remake rather than something new (when the original AND the remaster were just fine)...and those voices. It feels like a product of a Gen Z world. Like this just isn't for me.

I was already thinking of getting Star Fox once I heard the rumors, plus it’s nice to see it be $50 digital and $60 physical, I was wondering if it was going to be $70 or not.

@axelhander The voices in 64 lent an odd credibility that made it easy to take 64 seriously despite the cartoony presentation. The opposite has occurred here - the visuals are astonishing and make the presentation feel very serious. But the VOICES make it feel like a Saturday morning cartoon.

I just bought the 3DS semi-remake and played it a lot. Otherwise I would have been more excited about this. Now it feels a bit 'meh'.

I can’t even beat the SNES or N64 games using save states, so this isn’t for me! Still, I’m happy for those who were hoping to see this series make a comeback

Tough choice… Personally, I really like the character art, I think the game looks stunning. It being a remake is very disappointing though… But the lower price and online multiplayer is tempting… I think my son would enjoy it too.

As a huge fan of the N64 game, I’ll likely be getting this Day 1…. But I’m a little conflicted on how I feel about this.

I guess I would have preferred something ‘new’ from Nintendo here - a little innovation and/or creativity with this IP. Instead, it seems they’ve played it incredibly safe with the lowest-common-denominator path.

I think the game looks gorgeous, and the art style is absolutely fine by me (I genuinely like it) - but I’m struggling to get too excited by virtue of having experienced and seen this all before.

I’ll definitely be picking it up though, as I’m ever optimistic that strong sales numbers for this game could open the door for a sequel… especially now that they have the game engine and assets that could potentially be reused for a future title

My biggest worry is- I really hope that Nintendo don’t pull the same level of stunt with the rumoured OoT remake. IMO, that project really needs to level up - and have the same kind of scale that that FFVII remake has (vs the original game).
I’m praying that the OoT remake is more than just the original game with shinier packaging

The only reason I would get physical games again is to avoid the storage management. Which is crazy, since I started buying digital to avoid all the game boxes and whatnot. But now that the digital offerings are less expensive - as they should be - I feel like I don't want to spend more for the convenience. Ugh.

The problem is the game length. It's around 3 hours only because it's a on rails shooter. So, I would gladly wait for a sale or second hand! It looks awesome by the way!

And I TOTALLY agree with you about OoT. I want a total overhaul like FFVII Remake. Make it different enough to really feel special. I think that sounds much more interesting. I'll still probably enjoy it other way. That game is so great, to me.

No here's why. Playing the same game again but this time it's soulless remake character designs look terrible. Voice acting is cringe and why would I want play same game again like 4th time. I just play original version on N64. It's worth preorder or buying new console.

I am a huge star fox 64 fan. That said the issue I'm having with this is that potentially the only two newly announced games to come out this year for switch 2 will be the SECOND 1-1 remakes of n64 games, and potentially at the expense of 3D Mario until the third year of a new consoles life. I'm so staggered by that that I'm going to have to see whether ocarina of time comes to pass and assess how angry I am about that then before I decide to buy this on principle

I prefer to wait for the remake of Lylat Wars.

I recently got the THPS 3+4 remake, and the devs actually added a couple of completely brand new levels - one of which was genuinely incredible (the water park!). Would have been great to have a couple of new levels or planets for Star Fox

This whole S2 generation has been strange. I think the hardware itself is genuinely really brilliant and has some insane capability (Resi 9…. Wow just looks so good). But I feel 1st party is really lacking vs Switch 1.

30 years and it’s still a bloody remake. Why not design some new levels? Nintendo baffles me sometimes.

Don't think this one's for me. An on-rails shooter pretty much has to feel like a runaway train/rollercoaster to hold my interest. Moving straight forward with the camera glued to your back gets old pretty quick, so I'd rather see those flashy graphics displayed as dynamically as possible than have them restricted by the limitations of an N64 game. And while the art style mostly looks great, the changes to character proportions are pretty offputting. The material properties and everything are amazing, but the actual designs look like what you get when you ask an AI to make a cartoon more realistic.

I mean, how hard is it to add 4 player cooperative play to the campaign?! I mean, all 4 ships and pilots are already with you on most missions anyways. Four player co-op was supposed to have been available in Star Fox Assault!!!! If you're going to remake Star Fox 64 64 times, at least one of those times could add 4 player co-op to the story!!!! lol But I'm sure I'll buy it anyways because I'm apparently cool with Nintendo manipulating me!!!! lol

Yeah. I've only every played the Nintendo 64 game via the demo in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, so it's pretty much a new game to me. I was a big fan of Star Fox Assault on GameCube though.

Between the character models and the fact that I played the previous version of this game, I'm in no rush to play this. Graphics and gameplay look cool though

Honestly, I don't know. Something about it makes me think I won't like it as much as the OG. Some of it makes me think that it will still be worth it.

SF64 was one of the greatest games ever, though not nearly as high as it was just because there's so many more games.

Question to those who played it: Was the original a great game? Somehow I missed it back then (and didn’t think it was a big hit either).

As for the remake: New cutscenes are always kinda inconsequential, the actual game is way more important. Can’t tell if it’s too basic or good.

Yeah, it is a bit of a shame it is just rehashing the same plot for like the gazillionth time, the series could stand to try something new, but I do like Starfox 64 a lot and I do like the different direction the game is going and the uncanny character designs kind of appeal to me weirdly.

I will be buying the switch 2 when its out. This game will tip me over the edge unless they mess it up completely. Starfox64 is one of my all time faves.

I don't know, I always sucked pretty much at this game, at least in the snes versions, so I'm not sure I'd have fun with it. In other words, it looks cool, just not €50 cool. I'd rather try Star Fox 64 in NSO first, since this game is basically a remake — cough sorry — "cinematic reimagining".

Maybe when it goes on sale. It's not cheap in Australia sadly.

I never got a 3DS or a WiiU so the last SF I got to play was Command (apart from Starlink, I guess), and SF 64 is possibly my favourite game of all time. I'm very happy with this announcement, and I hope it will lead to a sequel with an all new plot.

Any complaints I have are minor, compared to the good stuff we're getting. As suspected, it was the Mario Galaxy movie that prompted Nintendo to look at this long-defunct IP, but developing an all-new AAA game takes even longer than an animated movie nowadays, so the only realistic option was a remake. However, we seem to be getting the most luxurious remake possible, and for a fair price too.

Day one! I cannot wait for this! I love Star Fox, it was my dad's favorite franchise and I can't wait to play Star Fox 64 again!

I love StarFox 64 and the 3DS remaster. So I was excited for this... But for the amount of effort put in and the price I assumed this would SURELY have some more stuff added, like new planets? Nope...

With that, it is overpriced in my opinion... So I will hope for a sale at some point.

I do hope it succeeds and Nintendo figures out how to make a modern StarFox game.

I’m gonna play the original StarFox 64 on NSO for a while before making any decisions. Never been into StarFox but this entry looks promising.

Probably not. $50 is a tough sell for me with a game like Star Fox. I love the original and the 3DS remake but it’s not a long title. It’s usually a 45-60 minute game and longevity comes from replays. I know this game has a level select with missions per level, but I just don’t see myself doing that.

I also don’t care for online multiplayer as I’m mainly a solo gamer. And those character designs are… well, they’re character designs. Cool that others are excited, but not my cup of tea.

Day one for me, lylat wars is one of my favorite games of all times and this remake looks in my head what the kid was playing back in 1997.

As for people who said they had trouble with the original game the direct pointed out there's an easy mode being added where you have more health, would think they'll add some extra lives and check points too but that option was not in the original game, only normal and then expert once you had a medal on every stage.

Would be awesome if they made a special edition physical version of this which came with a futuristic model of a rumble pack. Pure nostalgia bait but I'd get it lol.

Day one for sure. I had sold my Wii U before Star Fox Zero launched so it's been a while since I played a new one. Obviously this is Star Fox 64, again, but that is one of my favorite games of all time and some new story content is cool, also has a good price point.

Don't have a Switch 2 at the moment. Whenever I do get one I'm not sure will get it. I've still got the 3DS version which I played this morning because of this announcement and its a great game I dont replay it very often though.

While I have the 3DS version of OoT and if the rumours are true and I get Switch 2 I will probably get that one more.

@KoopaTheGamer Honesty because the style (and it is hard to even lower the word to use in this instance!) is as lazy as a remake where you don't even change the courses. But hey, fine, remake it without changes, okay. The character models fly in the face of almost everything else SF we have gotten. Imagine a Mario game where, rather than an actual art style, everything was just hyper realistic. Would be awful. SF has such charm (or DID) and these models look like what a young art student would think up. No style at all.

I'm surprised I haven't see it brought up more, but this is EXACTLY why that one trailer for the new Beyond Good and Evil got such slack. The hyper real pig is ugly and throws art in the trashbin.

Sure. Switch 1 feels like it hit the ground running. Though in fairness, I do think BotW carried the water for a large portion of the first year or so. And it made us feel like there was so much more than there actually was. But this launch does feel a bit more like Wii U's launch. And similarly, Wii U was a sort-of beefy, specs-focused console like Switch 2. Not that it's the only feature for either platform, of course. I believe with Wii U, they were a little slow to get up to speed on the new technological capabilities, and I suspect that may be the case here, too. But once they caught up, we got some of the best entries for each franchise at that time. And I anticipate/hope we may see the same thing with Switch 2.

Super awesome. That is again similar to Wii U, but I think Switch 2 has been even more competitive on that front. It seems like the titles have sold better thus far, as well. I hope it all continues.

Despite being a long time Nintendo fan Star Fox has never been a series that I could get into. I've played the 3DS remake of Star Fox 64 but it just didn't click for me. I might give this a shot but probably won't buy day one.

I'm sometimes torn on these polls, because while I will not be purchasing for myself, I absolutely will be buying a copy day one for my public library (I'm in charge of the video game collection - dream job!)

Looking forward to the cutscenes and music. $50 to play through an updated Star Fox 64 for 2026 standards is a win to me. Wonder if it'll run in 120 fps. Also still holding onto the hope that if this is a success, we will see them branch out with a true sequel using the SF64 style. Zero kind of did that but added a bunch of gimmics.

Nope. I've played Starfox 64 twice already. (Thrice if you believe the Zero is just a remake of 64.) I've seen nothing that would make this game worth buying.

If I get a Switch 2, yes. Just recently getting into a Switch 1 and the games I didn't played over the last ten years. Just recently replayed Star Fox 64 on my Switch 1 before this announcement! Lol. (Coming from someone who played 64, Assault, Command, and 64 3D).

I'm not upset, you seem to be upset yourself.

I mean, you don't even own a Switch 2 but here you are being upset about the pricing.

Pre-ordered it already. Star Fox 64 is my most played N64 game besides Ocarina of Time, and I must have replayed it thousands of times. So I want this badly!

@Aquinas I played it to 100%. I was not that impressed to be honest. It was far too easy and I found it repetitive. It is also 1 game for a console that has been out for 1 year. Switch had BotW, Mario Odyssey and Xeboblade 2.

@StewdaMegaManNerd as good as that would be, the game is pretty short, so the demo would have to be minuscule. One of my favourite N64 games that I only got as it was bundled cheap with a rumble pack back in the day. Didn't know it would be so good.

@Aquinas It is great you think so. I prefer the challenge of the Retro games. It was insultingly easy until the end. Like all modern Nintendo games. Odyssey and BotW were much more challenging.

@CupidStunt Definitely. I play games for fun now, and do Challenges at work where it at least produces tangible results for the labor. But when I was a teenager I liked hard games.

I preordered. I'm really excited. People are like "not ANOTHER remake", and I'm thinking "Cool, a really pretty, good-looking remake". I hope it puts Star Fox back on the map after Zero, which I don't think did very well.

As much as i liked lylat wars i had no idea who anyone was when i played that and starwing.(uk names for starfox and starfox 64.) as there was next to no story context and just enjoyed the game play. So with fresh cutscenes to flesh out characters and narrative. Think i dig it more than just oh its this again. Hopefully it do well and we finally have a sequel and continue the story.
