Kirby Air Riders Dev Team Disbanding Soon, Game Updates Also Ending

My primary opinion on this is hoping that Sakurai's next project is a Kid Icarus port.

@Lizuka Unlikely as he did say in an interview, he wouldn't make a port or sequel of the game. Kid Icarus Uprising would be the last one of the series.

Nice to see a team confidently say its done as is.

Of course, there are plans to keep activity going with special events, which have so far been pretty fun and I see myself staying with this game for a while.

@Shade_Koopa To be fair, he said the same thing about no longer directing Smash Bros… multiple times.

Feels like Nintendo wants Sakurai to get a move on with the next Smash game if you ask me.

It’s no Mario Kart, but I definitely respect what Nintendo and Sakurai set out to do with Kirby Air Riders. A clear, focused, polished sequel to an under-the-radar game with some clear passion put into it. Not a surprise for someone who got to work with his baby again!

Sakurai is either making a new smash or a expansion pack style switch 2 update for smash bros ultimate. They needed to bribe him to get him to do it one more time so they let him make air riders.

I hope this was the plan all along, and it's not because the game flopped or anything like that. The game is great.

@Kyloctopus Smash is the 2nd best-selling fighting game franchise of all time.

Kid Icarus 3DS sold around 1 million copies. No offense to its community, but it doesn’t seem worth the trouble. You could argue “why make Air Riders 2 then?” but he is the creator of Kirby.

GOOD. I really appreciate a one and done game that doesn't get constant updates and has a ton of stuff to do offline. These kinds of experiences don't come up often, which is a crying shame, really. But when they do come up... that's a cause for CELEBRATION!

This doesn't apply to me since I haven't been complaining about "greedy Nintendo" (I've complained about other things, but not stuff like the increased prices or games like DK Bananza getting DLC), but.... everyone who has been complaining about so-called "greedy Nintendo"... @Stormkyleis Based on the Directs, this was the plan the whole time. Sakurai said that the game was finished at launch and wouldn't be getting any DLC.

@Stormkyleis I think this day and age, it sounds scary to hear when a game won’t receive future updates. But as Sakurai stated, he put everything into this game and feels that it is complete.

He’s definitely all-in on Smash now. I expect to see a new release before 2028.

What about the events?

@Shade_Koopa He's also talked about how he'd like to see it ported at some point. In general Sakurai says a lot of things and you can't really take anything he says seriously because every game the dude makes is his last.

Good guy Sakurai. More games like this and Tears of The Kingdom with no extra content. I'll gladly take a full complete package in a single shot at a slightly higher price than yet another season pass.

I mean, this is what people want, right? Get the whole game with one purchase. If the team feels the game is complete, that’s good enough for me.
