Capcom has released its financial report for the fiscal year ended March 31st, 2023, and it's an impressive showing from the Japanese publisher.
Following the launch of 35 new SKUs, including the likes of Monster Hunter Rise: Sunbreak and Resident Evil 4, the company has reported that it has sold a record-breaking 41.7 million units over the course of the period, which is up from 32.6 million during the previous fiscal year.
Having said that, while new titles contributed 12.4 million to the overall total (roughly 30%), the remaining 29.3 million was made up of 'catalog titles', which Capcom states is comprised of games like Monster Hunter Rise, Resident Evil Village, Devil May Cry 5, and more.
We'll have to wait and see what kind of impact the recently released Mega Man Battle Network Legacy Collection will have, since it launched on April 14th, 2023, just after the end of fiscal year 2023. A recent announcement from Capcom put the collection at just over 1 million in sales.
Nevertheless, the results have proven to be beneficial for the company itself (duh!), whose share price has risen to a record-high of 5,330 JPY after starting off 2023 at around 4,250 JPY. With the upcoming launch of Street Fighter 6 and the new IP Exoprimal, we're betting Capcom is in for another successful fiscal year ahead.
Just bring a few more games to the Switch, okay, Capcom?
What do you make of Capcom's performance over the course of FY23? What Capcom games are you hoping to see in the coming months? Let us know.

Wait until Street Fighter dude. From all accounts, the care they are putting into their fighting franchise is the most seen in many, many years. That is my 2023 hype game.
Turn around company of the millennium! Go Capcom I'm rooting for you!
I hope they start investing more into smaller projects now that the company is on the right track.
SF6 should sell north of 10m copies.
@Magician Capcom said they are looking for 10M lifetime sales. SF5 sold 7M lifetime.

Hear me out Capcom: Viewtiful Joe 1+2 remastered in one lovely package.
@Cashews True true.
I wonder how much of a splash if any the eShop Fire sale has had. It sure got me to buy games I previously had no interest in, like Resident Evil and Ace Attorney.
@Jimmy_G_Buckets [Clover Package (add God Hand and we have a deal)]
I'm sure it helps that they are surprisingly generous with regular sales! I've scooped up a few over the last couple Switch (and 3DS) sales.
Hopefully Ghost Trick does well and as a result Capcom goes deeper into their retro catalog.
Keep it up, CAPCOM!
SFVI is shaping up well and the RE train is on a roll. Can’t wait for REIX. Please keep the game first person to round off the “trilogy”
A little skeptical of Exoprimal but… space raptors has me intrigued XD
I know most of these titles are not on Switch but if you have another console or PC, don’t skip on recent CAPCOM games
@Jimmy_G_Buckets
We need Viewtiful Joe 3 or simply a reboot. Let them start on a new game already. Switch is full of ports.
@Hwatt There isn't a point to Viewtiful Joe without Platinum working on it. Now if they did a collaboration? That would really be something.
I've seen it referred to multiple times on here already, but what is meant with SKU?
@jolteon23
"stock keeping unit".
It is a number used by retailers on a product and variations, separate from the UPC (which is the same for everyone).
Not surprising, seeing how the market seeks to fill the vacuum that the downfall of Blizzard, Ubisoft and other similar companies leave.
If Capcom is on such a hot streak where's my Mega man X9 or my Mega man 12? Oh and isn't it about time for Resident Evil 9?
Until one of those is announced I'm still calling them crapcom.
@Cashews WE NEED TATSUNOKO VS CAPCOM AND MVC4
Streetfighter 6 😍 cant wait for that one.
Zelda totk for switch and streetfighter 6. Man this year is a great year for gaming haha.
@Cashews
Not arguing that but CAPCOM could publish it since they were the original sorta HQ / Owner for Clover before. If they got extra cash in the bank and want to continue diversity with their portfolio (avoid all eggs in one basket) they got some room to play now.
@Truegamer79 It's only been two years since RE: Village and we got RE4 Remake in that time. Patience.
@Hwatt I know, they can do whatever they want. But the passion that made Viewtiful such a great game is all Platinum. Capcom has really turned a corner I could see them not being too greedy and reaching out to their former partners. Platinum is all about collaborations - they'd do it in a heartbeat I imagine.
Look at how successful Nier was. Arguably SE's last real hit. Certainly their last new property anyone cared about.
@Cashews Understood. I just went through Vanquish over the weekend. That was led by the OG director of RE4, who went on to start Tango, and now recently left Tango.
Point is - the original Platinum is already broken up. They will have to reboot if they believe they have the talent at CAPCOM or whomever they choose to work with. Otherwise, sure porting is safe but whats the long term goal? Bring back the franchise? If so - how?
give us the code veronica remake you cowards
@Hwatt good point. I guess I meant instead of the OG platinum team being together - they seem to be one of few companies that still take twitchy action/adventure games seriously.
Imagine a Devil May Cry <>Bayonetta crossover game. Jesus I'd probably lose it> Bayo walking into the Devil May Cry bar and seeing Dante's back sword having a beer.
maybe I should fanfic this.
how about reviving the breath of fire series capcom or giving us a remastered 3& 4 games ?
Capcom had a crazy good output the last few years, and the future is looking good too. Probably my favourite developer alongside Nintendo.
Would kill for a Nintendo vs Capcom collab.
They're working on Dragon's Dogma 2. That's going to be huge. I hope they give Nintendo some pointers on next system specs so we don' t get that cloud-stuff.
Okami and Mega Man X, Capcom. Don't forget.
Oh. And MM:BN Legacy Collection on Xbox. What happened?
@GamerGrandpa Ah thank you! So, it's like the amount seperate titles they have released?
@Hwatt Nah, I agree with @Jimmy_G_Buckets because one thing practically everyone complaining about "too many ports" keeps disregarding is that there are so many playing on Switch and also other consoles that didn't play the originals because they came out quite a while ago and those people are too young (or they simply missed them back in the day like me), how do you expect a new game in the series to be successful if only a handful of the potential playerbase has any interest in the series?
@JohnnyMind
Everyone has different opinions and that's cool. My opinion shouldn't be assumed as status quo of all others. Yes, the Gamecube, even if you were of age, only reached ~25m users vs. Switch ~125m users. So of course, any game sold on Switch has higher potential. I would just hope for more than a port and no, I disagree with a port as the only approach to be successful with an old series.
A lot of developers take different approaches. EA recently remade Dead Space. Ubisoft is remaking Splinter Cell. Square Enix is remaking VII. WayForward* remade Advance Wars. CAPCOM remade RE2, 3 and 4. iD reboot Doom, Activison reboot CoD MW, Warner Bros reboot MK, Crystal Dynamics reboot Tomb Raider.
All of those games are not ports and have been successful (critics, sales etc.)
My TL;DR - I would hope for more than just a port.
I think Nintendo, Valve, Sega, and Capcom are my favorite game studios I just love what all 4 of these companies put out. Glad to see capcom doing good just like the others!
@Hwatt Of course you can do more than a simple port, it could be a remaster or even a remake, my point is simply that before making a third entry in a relatively unknown series - especially if it's a sequel but even a reboot - it makes more sense to rerelease the first two games in some way to let potential new players learn about it and test the waters instead of straight up committing to a complely new game.
