We're just over a month away from the grand opening of Super Nintendo World at Universal Studios in Hollywood. The theme park will be opening its doors to the public on 17th February 2023, but a few lucky members of the press and theme park enthusiasts have been given access and posted exclusive footage of the attractions.
Theme park YouTube channel MiceChat is one of the lucky few who have been able to have a look around the park ahead of its opening day next month. And the channel has shared around 2 minutes of footage from its tour. We've posted the video (along with another impressions piece) further down, but for those of you who don't want to see the theme park before it opens — or before you can visit yourselves — consider this a spoiler warning!
The theme park enthusiast channel was full of praise in the short video, calling the Toadstool Cafe "amazing" and the merch shop "fantastic". There are statues, ornaments, and references to all sorts of Mario games like Super Mario Sunshine and the Mario Party series. And, of course, we know about the Mario Kart ride, but here we get a glimpse at some of the decorations around the area, including some snazzy-looking racing suits.
You can check out MiceChat's recent video on the park below. The channel also has another video on their visit, though the newest video below is a more up-to-date version, but you can still watch the old one here.
MiceChat isn't the only YouTube channel to share footage and photos from inside the walls of Super Nintendo World. Attractions Magazine also got a chance to explore the new park and posted some extremely detailed impressions on their website, including some incredible photos of things from Mechakoopa to Bowser's throne.
The Magazine was also extremely positive about their exclusive visit to the park — calling themselves a "lifelong Nintendo fan", they also pointed out the "emphasis here seems to be on play and exploration, and that to me has always been what both video games and theme parks are all about".
Check out Attractions Magazine's video below, which contains lots of still shots and narration which goes into detail about what they saw at the park. To say we're itching to go is an understatement.
How do you think the park is shaping up so far? Are you going to try and visit Super Nintendo World when it opens next month? Let us know!

So makes me want a new Mario platform game for Switch.
I sure wish I could go to that awesome place, but it's way out of my league money wise.
@Dezzy70
I still think we'll get Super Mario Bros Movie as a platform game this year.
Wish this wasn't across the country from me.
@dazzleshell
I am hoping to, as long as it is of the normal high Nintendo standard.
Imagine, it would be the biggest movie to game tie in ever in gaming history from a sales point of few.
Also I think a missed opportunity by Nintendo if they don’t.
Being a stone’s throw away from Universal Studios Hollywood I really can’t wait to see Super Nintendo World in-person (and as an annual passholder, that day may be sooner rather than later), I’m already a fan of some of things the park’s already doing with the Nintendo IP.
That said, I hope the parks find a way to expand Super Nintendo World to feature other IPs outside of Mario. I know that DK was rumored a while back but I can’t see that happening at USH due to spacing issues.
I'd love to go here and spend a (budgeted) amount of money. Unfortunately, California isn't nearly as feasible for me as Florida, and the latter still isn't cheap to get to with the price of flights right now....
When it eventually gets opened in the Orlando park, I'd be willing to give it a go.
I avoid the west coast like the plague as it is.
@ZebZed DK is coming to the Osaka park, but I don't know if they have the spacing issues Hollywood has. I'm hoping since the Nintendo stuff is supposed to be part of the third park they have more there than just Mario at opening.
But then again, anything is better than throwing more money at Queen TERF.
@ElRoberico Uh oh, the Kotaku posters are getting bored and posting here. Anyway, she already has all the money, so ¯(ツ)/¯
The video isn't capturing how miserable and over-crowded the lines are going to be when it first opens up.
The one in Japan is boring as hell. The ride isn't very good so all they got going for it is the theming. Looks like this is more of the same.
So excited! As a passholder I'm hoping to secure a sneak preview reservation today when they open up. I'll report back later if I can get one!
UPDATE
The lady and I were able to secure our pass member preview reservation for February 8th at 1pm! Yahoo!!! I'll be sure to load up a few Duff Beers and a Jurrassic World IPA beforehand
Looks rather claustrophobic for a theme park…
Is there anything to do there? Like…I’ve been very underwhelmed by all I’ve seen leading up to this point. Are there rides? The atmosphere looks cool but I feel like after eating (hopefully) above average theme park food and looking at expensive merchandise I’d be like “Welp….should we leave?”
@dazzleshell That would be kind of neat: a video game, based on a movie, based on a video game.
The last time I saw that happen was Street Fighter: The Movie: The Game.
when the Super Nintendo World in Orlando open? i want to visit the Super Nintendo World of Orlando, the next time i travel to USA
Well the reservation system got junked up again due to demand but I managed to secure a visit yesterday.
I kind of wish that the video went a deeper dive regarding Toadstool's Cafe menu but after doing some digging I managed to find the menu, it looks interesting (some items made it over from Japan, the most notable being the Super Star Lemon Squash soda) but I'm REALLY gonna have to get used to mushrooms to fully enjoy the cafe.
@Giancarlothomaz From what I've heard it's not opening until 2025, it was delayed due to the pandemic and moving it Universal Studios Florida to Universal's Epic Universe.
@ZebZed where is Universal Epic Universe? only in 2025 that disapointing?
Hopefully them flood waters will ricied just in time for opening day.
@Giancarlothomaz It’s in the Universal Orlando Resort area and the delay while disappointing was expected considering that the park was announced back in August 2019.
@26-Emilio-Rodriguez I hope so too, thankfully Mario Kart: Bowser’s Challenge is an indoor ride so any rain in the forecast shouldn’t affect the previews too much.
