Japanese game developer Dimps Corporation - known for its work on popular franchises like Dragon Ball, One Piece, Sonic the Hedgehog and a number of fighting games - is reviving its 2005 2D Atomiswave arcade fighter The Rumble Fish 2 with the assistance of publisher 3goo.
The game will be arriving on the Nintendo Switch on December 7th / 8th, with pre-orders now live on the Switch eShop. You can get the standard game for $29.99 USD or the fancier limited digital bundle including the additional character 'Greed' for $30.58 USD (note: launch price, normal price $33.98).

"This fighting game gained popularity for its smooth visuals powered by S.M.A as well as the high level of strategy driven by its 2-gauges system. And with the addition of new current-gen features it's even easier to play... It has continued to attract fighting game fans since its release in 2005 with mechanics that use 2 gauges--one for offense and one for defense--and slick 2D visuals powered by S.M.A. (Smooth Model Animation)."
There'll also be new features added to the latest version to provide a "modern gameplay experience". This includes online versus mode, rollback netcode, 16:9 wide-screen support, AI and a training mode. Some of the other modes included in the game are arcade, survival, time attack and local multiplayer.
And here's the story:
"It is the end of the 20th century... A large-scale natural disaster struck the eastern area of a nation. It wiped out the financial sector and resulted in a staggering loss of life. At the dawn of the 21st century, the conglomerate PROBE-NEXUS, commonly known as Probe, began reconstruction efforts in that eastern area. Colossal capital and cutting-edge technology was poured into rebuilding it. Skyscrapers that put the old high-rises to shame along with the world's biggest shopping mall and recreational facilities. This was the dazzling birth of a symbol for the new century. It was christened Zone Prime. And now, in an undeveloped sector of its western block, there was an area known as the slums..."

As part of this announcement, a physical collector's edition will also be released. It will also include The Rumble Fish Original Arcade - a port of the first game. Unfortunately, it won't be sold separately at this point in time. The physical release is available from Limited Run Games.

THE RUMBLE FISH!!! THE RUMBLE FISH IS REAAAAAL!!!!!!
Wow these are some hidden gems, still would had been nice if it was handle by HAMSTER. I would definitely pick up that physical collection though. The games looks to be a mix of Guilty Gear X, Capcom vs. SNK, and Mark of the Wolves all roll into one. Also Rumble Fish? Such a weird name, I'm sure whoever made these games at one point was gonna name it as Rumble Fist and misspelled the title by mistake.
@Serpenterror Apparently it was intentional. Here's what the game's main planner said about it (via Gematsu):
What’s the origin of the title’s name, The Rumble Fish?
Oomori: “If you put two Rumble Fish in one tank, they’ll fight until one of them dies–until it’s torn to shreds. I thought that was interesting. And they’re so beautiful. They have this striking beauty to them, but also an extremely aggressive nature. And I believe we talked about the breaking parts system. The way they tear each other up was an inspiration for that.”

Finally, a fighter that allows you to kick some butt with John Hammond from Jurassic Park, lol.
That's who Boyd, the older dude, looks a bit like to me, at least in action.
Going to be a good month for fighters, I think Blazing Strike is also out in December.
There's hope yet for Akatsuki Blitzkampf or, even better, Eternal Fighter Zero.
Hahah, I wish.
No local wireless. Hence that fightinggame makes no sense. 😝
It seems only the collectors edition physical comes with the original arcade game and extra dlc characters.
@calbeau Akatsuki Blitzkampf is in limbo now... There was announcement of PC port, back in 2019. After that... Silence. Only silence...
welp guess I'm getting this physical. So I can have the first game.
This looks like a must play, simply for the inclusion of overweight Master Roshi as a playable character.
I'm hope that the game will look good in handheld mode... In 720p without annoying blur! Also... That sucks that the first game seems to be "physical DLC", like Knight Fairies in Shovel Knight(Nintendo versions only) - it's possible to summon Knight Fairy only if you have a amiibo figure. Kratos and Battletoads are free cameo
bosses in PlayStation and Xbox versions, while Nintendo versions... Don't have any cameo bosses from Nintendo's IPs... But it have semi-exclusive NPC and physical DLCs(Knight Fairies)... Yeah... Also... About the first game... I was thinking that it was gonna be a PlayStation 4 exclusive DLC/port, because when I've previously looked at the Switch limited edition, there was no mention of the first game and code for Nintendo eShop. While PlayStation 4 limited edition have mention about the first game and PSN code... Strange...
Edit: Also... We need more ports of Atomiswave games! Give me The King of Fighters XI, please! But... I want a port based on PS2 version of the game, because it have exclusive playable characters(Gai Tendō, Silver, Tang Fu Rue, Hotaru Futaba, and others)...
@Vyacheslav333 Shame. I remember my days playing old indie and doujin fighting games. AB definitely scored points for its art style, among other things.
Oh well.
@calbeau Yeah, it's art style... It is the only one fighting games franchise, that have an intelligent tank as playable character! Denkōsensha/Lighting Tank/Forbidden Living Battle Weapon is quite pretty memorable character from fighting games. Because he's the only one playable tank in fighting games, ha! Lol.
@Vyacheslav333 Hahah, good ol' Blitztank. I found it absolutely hilarious when I unlocked that in AB.
@calbeau Haha. Denkōsensha was one of the main reasons why I've bought BBTAG.
I'm a sucker for 2D fighters so I think I may well download it even if it's 6/10 level. Lol.
Awesome.
Boyd is probably my fav fighting games character ever.
well, next to Kusaregedo and Tung Fu Rue
