Well, we've now officially seen the first teaser trailer of The Super Mario Bros. Movie and heard Chris Pratt speak as the voice of Mario for the very first time. In case you forgot though, he's just one of many around the world who will be voicing the character.
Universal has also uploaded trailers of The Super Mario Bros. Movie in French, Spanish, Italian, and various other languages. The French one, in particular, is getting quite a lot of praise. Here's a round-up (thanks, GoNintendo):
Latin American Spanish
Spanish
Brazilian Portuguese
Italian
French
German
What do you think of movie Mario's voice in other languages? Leave a comment down below.

Even in languages I don't understand he sounds better..
Makes sense, other languages aren’t Christ Pratt.
I think Christ is going to be fine, I don’t mind hearing a deeper voiced Mario, and I sure didn’t want to hear the high pitch Video game version for two hours. Still think we need to hear more Christ, because as I said in other comment sections, I think he sounded higher pitched in the last sentence in the trailer.
However, French is amazing!
The French and Italian Mario dubs are fantastic ...They are certainly leagues closer to classic Mario than Chris Pratt doing Chris Pratt with a slight Brooklyn accent. Of course, I still like Chris Pratt as an actor ...Just an observation.
If his voice will be unbearable in the final product, though, I can happily watch the French dub. I've done so for plenty of other movies, the Asterix ones in particular ...and since Illumination's animation studio actually making the thing is in fact located in Paris, it doesn't surprise me that the French dub is this good.
I prefer the English version.
I don't know what to think of the fact that apparently Bender from Futurama or Gootrude, the Slime that talks from Dragon Quest: Your Story, is the Latin American Spanish voice of Mario.
Toad's voice is actually quite fitting.
Yeah, it’s a Chris Pratt problem. Completely ruins it for me. He just sounds so low-effort, like a ‘typical white guy’ sort of voice. Pretty disappointing.
I like Latin American Bowser! Mario is so so.
It's curious that there is still no japanese dub available... Now I wont to be able to put Isekais openings over the trailer
I’m wondering if Peach might have a British accent to make her sound more regal, I was wondering this as Anya Taylor-Joy has a slight mixed accent of British and American
Well what can I say as an American. Ya get what pay for. My country isn't known for it's amazing voice talent. So this doesn't surprise me really haha.
French Mario is miles better. Just have Mario be French and keep the rest of the English cast.
@nessisonett
French Mario: "C'est moi, Mario."
Everyone else: "What now?"
Is it me or does Mario's voice just not work in any language? I may be too biased from Martinet Mario (& Luigi). Italian is ok and French is leagues better than any other version but it still feels off. Jack Black Bowser is probably the strongest version.
Also kinda hyped for the Japanese dub. Might be the way to go.
Well they certainly fixed the problem of Mario not sounding Italian enough.
Eh, I’m fine with a Brooklyn Mario, it makes sense since this is his intro to Mushroom Kingdom; yeah it’s not gonna be full-on accurate but whatevs. I haven’t watched enough of Chris Pratt other than Parks and Rec and Guardians to be sick of him quite yet xD
But yeah everyone saying Bowser stole the show is right on, Black slayed it, got a lot of Avatar - Fire Nation showing up vibes lol
I think the Brazilian dub actor (who frequently does Chris Pratt roles) sounds more Spanish than Italian, but he is clearly going stronger for the accent than Pratt is.
Well of course in other languages his voice sounds better, it's made by professional voice actors. Pratt may have acting skills, but I don't think voice acting is one of them.
I think his voice works fine, everybody is just making a huge fuzz about it.
It would be funny if they kept Charles martinet for the Italian dub
I just wanna say that the Toads are all killing it! 😂❤️
And Mario is fine, I'm used to him being done by some YouTube cartoon dudes, and they're thankfully worse! (And really funny! 😂)
They are all good, but the french one is the best imo.
@Snatcher In the name of the Miyamoto, and of the Mario, and of the Kyoto developers, let's a go!
Funny how all the voices sound like actual Mario, except for the English one.
The French dub is the best and all of them sound very appropriate for Mario as a character. Except the American English one. Chris Pratt is not a fantastic human being and the same applies to his performance as Mario's voice actor, it would seem.
Cool, the Italians call it super Mario bros 2 film apparently. Its the second animated movie (after the anime), but its actually the third movie (life-action Mario says hello).
Might be better to just skip this until it's out on streaming/blue-ray and wait for someone to dub over Chris with a proper voice. Which I'm certain will happen, unless the Internet pulls another Sonic and forces them to remake it before release.
French is best, I like the german one too haha
Yeah, I'm not feeling English mario. Every other dub us fine. I mean even the German one with its gruff older sounding mario is better. I don't have anything against Pratt, I loved him in the Lego movie, it just doesn't fit. It's all subjective anyway, I hope the movie blows up the box office.
@Snatcher Truly truly I say to you, the world sorely needs to hear more from Christ.
French is great. Spanish Bowser is awesome but Toad is terrible as is Mario.
German’s cool.
Italian’s is awful. As expected.
How the mighty have fallen, what was once the best voice acting “school” in the world is now in shambles (well, it’s been going downhill since all the great voice actors of the ‘70s/80s are now dead or retired). Still not as bad as Spanish dubs but still awful.
My Parents are from spain and south america, i am livinging in germany and i've learned to speak Italian because of Friends (it is very similiar as a roman language).
For me the german one sounds the weakest.
I really like the italnian and the the spanish one followed only a bit by the spanish american one (bowser is better here)
The brazilian portuguese one seems reeeeally funny.
I would watch it in that ^^
I would go for German Bowser and French Mario
@MythTgr Brazil as usual showing why we have the best dub in the world
Brazil show why we have the best dub of the world.
@BiscuitCrumbsInMyBed as believe Anya Taylor-Joy is gonna use a heavy british acent for the Peach voice, she gonna use the same acent the queen Elizabeth second have mixed with a typical sweet girly voice.
@Vil "a slight Brooklyn accent"
They couldn't resist, couldn't they? As of now the American version seem the only one where Mario has some kind of accent (luckily).
Americans really can't really help themselves, it was vain to hope they wouldn't mess with accents.
@Giancarlothomaz So, Peach is not Italian?
@DashKappei @Azuris I don't like Bowser in the Italian dub, his performance is flat. Toad is fine and Mario sounds like an amateur, I'm sure they've cast some kind of "celebrity" (probably a comedian) instead of a professional voice actor. The Penguin stands out as the only above average performance (he's also a deep voice, he should have done Bowser instead).
@DashKappei It depends, Netflix Italian anime dubs are excellent, while Yamato video ones are trash, along with video games dubs (that most of the times employ the same voices as the Yamato dubs).
@Benjiro Not a fantastic human being? Are you sure? He seem to stand out as a genuinely good dude amongst the vain Hollywood crowd. Maybe not at Keanu Reeves levels, but almost.
I'm sold on both the Latin American Spanish and Italian versions.
@NovaPrime no, she a very typical american higly pitched girly voice, Mario/Wario and Luigi is the one is that have a italian acent, Thomas Game Doc made a very intereting video on how Peach voice changed since it debut in 1996(in Super Mario 64).
I'm surprised there wasn't one for the Japanese version...at least yet
@Giancarlothomaz Interesting video, but I still don't get why she isn't Italian. The whole Super Mario universe seem to revolve around an Italian theme (it's not just Mario and Luigi, there also are the ""goombas"). So it's strange that she isn't Italian.
@NovaPrime maybe is too make a constrate between all characters
@NovaPrime It's his church or rather, his former church that gets people angry about him.
It's so funny actually hearing Mario speak Italian finally after all these years.
@NatiaAdamo Well, it seems that some people really like to grasp at straws in order to have an excuse to hate someone.
Wow, the Brazilian Portuguese version sounds amazing! But the rest are all pretty close, they are all very, very good! Loved hearing Mario in his original Italian too.
