I’m guessing this means no more DLC, then. I know the game fell off the map really quickly and it will always be unfavorably compared to Smash, but it was fun in its own right.
Aside from TMNT and Spongebob, I'm morbidly curious at how well-known and recognizable the other characters are in Japan.
Dang, was hoping for one more Avatar character. Oh well. Having three is relatively plenty!
An ultimate edition is kinda cool, I might pick this up for the kids at some point.
Considering how it's basically the same price-point as the base game, I'll probably pick this up if/when it comes over to Ireland (I'm a simple man with fighting games: if there's an arcade mode, I will most likely play it until the end of time).
The soft confirmation of no more major updates does sting quite a bit, especially when the premise is as cool as it is, but NASB was neat little gem that I hope is remembered fondly in the coming years.
Plus it gave us Garfield in a competitive fighting game which I just think is hilarious.
Sooo that’s it then? If so that is a small/odd roster. Why only two ninja turtles? Why not more folks from LoK? (actually just give me an LoK fighting game). I have the base game but not sure if I care to buy the dlc.
@Fizza @thesilverbrick There are now three Nickelodeon Kart Racers games on Switch, so if this really is the end of the DLC, I'd say we're likely to get a sequel in the next couple of years. It may even already be in the works.
Glad I waited, I'll be picking up the Ultimate Edition from Best Buy.
Mabey I should play the PS5 version (PS Plus) first and see if it's worth owning a physical copy.
Everyone is Here! Colors weave into a spiral of flame... oh wait, wrong Ultimate.
Dang, no more dlc, kinda sucky they added jimmys dad instead of jimmy tho.
This game could have done well, with a lower price (Which multiple devs said was a bad idea but they couldn’t do jack) and having to play catch up due to low budget given for said game, it’s sad because nick gave more budget for a mobile game then this. And they were going to have colors if nick hadn’t limited to canon outfits so, yeah!
This game had the stuff, but they got messed over by nick.
@Not_Soos I hope so, I'd kill to see some Fairly Odd Parents representation!
I guess that means no more new content unless theyre gonna release are more ultimater edition
@Fizza Same! It's strange to me that with 40+ characters including Jimmy Neutron, there's still no FOP representation in even the racing games. Some people think it may be because of some international licensing issues, but like...Timmy, Cosmo, and Wanda used to be in Nickelodeon games back in the day, so what gives?
You know, for s**** and giggles, they should have added a Eureka's Castle character to the roster.
@Fizza agree, it's a pretty game after all, and we need Timmy in this (or a sequel).
And I even wish Disney will make something similar, maybe with their animated series characters (like the one you and Not_Soos have on the avatar) opposed to the overused pixar and live action ones (or at least both)
Glad I never bought this, but if I do I wouldn't get it on Switch.
@Not_Soos fop always gets the shaft , and I have no idea what lmao.
I may grab this later at a good sale price. I enjoyed the base game for what it was and having all the DLC on the cart would be nice.
@Not_Soos 40+ characters? I searched around and it called out only 25. Is there an ultimate list somewhere?
The 40+ number of characters intrigued me!
This game really makes you appreciate how much hard work, support and commitment went into Smash Bros. It was given away free with PS Plus which is the only reason I tried it. Like every other Smash clone, it's all license and no hard work. Nobody with a Switch needs to know it even exists. Even my kids lost interest after two matches
Really hoping this becomes like nick kart racers and gets more sequels over time. Loved the game just everybody kept on comparing it to smash and killed it off.
This game had potential, but they couldn't do much with a low budget, even ater they sent updates like the voices, MultiVersus is here now, a game that has a lot more budget and much more attractive characters, Nickelodeon alone can't compete with WarnerMedia as a whole, a sequel would need characters from other Paramount IPs like South Park and Star Trek.
@Magrane The 40+ characters is for Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3, not NASB. Sorry if my wording wasn't very clear.
I've heard good things about this game, I can't reconcile the fact that it's including the Ninja Turtles, but missing half of them... ^^;
Does anyone else remember when this was being treated like the "second coming of Melee"?
I may get it if it comes to the UK or import
This game's pretty fun. Not every platform fighter has to be directly compared to Smash Bros just as not every action-adventure has to be directly compared to Super Metroid. Obviously the big-budget Nintendo games are going to have more content and polish, etc, but there's still space for smaller projects with lots of heart.
Would have been nice to have Dib in the game, so you can have epic Zim vs Dib fights
@MatthewTaranto
The funny thing is, even from just SpongeBob, Nickelodeon has the budget to have given this game the same time, energy and money that Smash Bros got. But Nick is a cheap, cheap company who loves to get money off nostalgia alone. I mean look at the three Nickelodeon Racer games for further proof.
Nice to see that some people here use the term "platform fighter" instead of "smash clone".
Nickbrawl is a lot of fun and I really wish Smash Bros goes back to wavedashing mechanics in future sequels. I also recommend Ludosity's previous platform fighter, Slap City.
There is room for more platform fighters. That genre shouldn't be exclusive to Smash Bros, it's healthier to have competition (and force Nintendo to make rollback netcode to their own fighting games).
@thesilverbrick That is a shame. I really wanted Donnie and Raph to make that a deal for me. Or all the Turtles in a different style from each animated series (87, 2003, 2012, and Rise).
@Snatcher What's the phone app in question?
I rented this and...it was just OK. Maybe it's because I never grew up with Nick but it just felt a bit...flat.
Whenever a new PlatFighter is revealed, I lose interest if the terms 'more than one Smash-like can co-exist' get banded around with 'Smash-killer'. Like, it's sort of self contradicting- 'More competition is healthy but also KILL THE COMPETITION!!'.
I think the main issue with these sort of games and why I'm reluctant to try the likes of Multiversus is that companies look at Smash and see 'yeah, we want some of that' and do it and then once it becomes less profitable, ditch it. When you have a corporation that deals with various media, they aren't going to afraid to knock certain projects on the head. I think that's what happened the NASB and although Multiversus is F2P, I wouldn't be surprised if WB decide it's not worth continuing. I mean LEGO Dimensions was a good concept but its plans got cancelled and I know there's some big hoo-hah over projects getting cancelled over the WB-Discovery merger. It may sound a bit pessimistic but if you want to create a PlatFighter, the safer option is to go the Aether or Brawlhalla direction, not the Smash direction. Multiversus seems to be taking that route but we'll have to wait and see..
$39.99 Coming out with the price that it should've stayed at.
NASB is fun enough and it resolved the voice acting and items and other oddities but it had a general lack of stuff to do and explore in the single player front (no single player adventure mode, no trophy style descriptions of the characters and history, survival mode, etc.) besides running arcade mode for the 270th time after clearing everyone and even that lacks variety (where's free for all, team battle, bonus modes like break the targets, etc? besides 1 v 1). If it at least mixed up the arcade mode like that, I would've sticked with it a bit longer.
But nevertheless, NASB by all circumstances should never have worked the way that it did. A greedy corporation making a Smash clone only because Smash Bros Ultimate is the new hotness. That would've turned out a massive failure, but the voice actors, Ludocity with the Slap City know how and continued support and the overall love for all things Nick from the Devs and the fans turned to something at the very least a decent time waster. That from the failure of the licensed games these days, especially a licensed platform fighter. That's awesome.
Here's to Nickelodeon All Star Brawl and hopefully it won't be the last time we get to see the Nicktoons in the battlefield.
And Nick, in the future, please let any devs that you hire next time have the money/time to work their magic on games that you licence.
So the roster is done? Pretty disappointing. Well most people went back to Smash Ultimate or jumped into the Multi-Versus train.
@Erigen They realllly like SpongeBob though.
@thesilverbrick Not necessarily. The devs mentioned to look forward to more content like this in the future so it's not over yet. Wouldn't they had said that's it for DLC if they were done with updates for the game?
@Dakotastomp It could be fluff marketing...or it could be not.... Gehh. I hate secrets!
@NeonPizza Did the characters mouths move for every move in Smash ultimate too? Idk man. Seems everyone was expecting this game to be more than it was, and people are mad that it's not like that. If Batang who worked on NKR3 could improve on their game in the sequels, I don't see why ASB couldn't get the same treatment.
@Captain_Toad Only way to find out is to go to the source.
I feel there's a good game in there, but it feels almost soulless. I hope they learn from from their mistakes, and what MultiVersus is doing right, mainly with the voice acting. Instead of just re-recoding some classic lines and adding some generic ones, MultiVersus really nailed it adding specific character interactions, adding a lot of personality to what could've been a rather bland game.
@Erigen Jenny's popular in Japan.
I'm glad they made an ultimate version of the game. This also means all the voice works are now in the full final version.
@SilverM Nah, Disney is trash nowadays. Putting those overrated characters won't happen without putting Mickey, Simba, Jafar, Woody, Elsa, Mr. Incredible, Captain Jack Sparrow, Sora, etc. first. And I'd rather have it that way, it reminds me of a time when Disney and Pixar weren't total scums.
@victordamazio They should also fix all the jank in the gameplay if they really want to compete against Smash Bros. and MultiVersus.
@MatthewTaranto Unfortunately Nick did not produce the game with "lots of heart", and it shows. Hopefully with the way MultiVersus took off they'll learn their lessons and step up.
...can you resume Brawl in the Family with Nick characters?
Remember when this someone mention was gonna be smash killer man this game had so much potential too bad its so bland and boring not worth the money you just better off buying smash bros.
@NeonPizza okay, your opinion? For a lesser version of Smash, it's honestly pretty fast paced and the controls are pretty solid across the roster. When playing with friends, it's a pretty wild game IMHO. Maybe it just wasn't for you.🤷🏿♂️
As a new owner of this ultimate edition
I can now tell you that the cartridge is not updated
It is the vanilla 1.0.0 version on cart, so you need to download the patches
You get a code for the season pass as well
