The weekly Japanese charts from Famitsu have landed, and Splatoon 3 is still taking everyone to the cleaners. it's another week where the multiplayer shooter has sold over 100k copies, which means the game has now sold 3 million copies — that doesn't include physical sales, however. Geez.
However, NieR:Automata's Switch port has sold a decent amount, making it the highest-charting new release. The action RPG from Square Enix and PlatinumGames, released on the PS4 back in 2017 initially, has sold 30,218 in the week of 3rd to 9th October.
Dragon Quest X has climbed up the charts a tiny bit this week with 21,908 units sold on Switch, while the only other newcomer — Hakuouki Shinkai: Tenun no Shou (part of the Hakuouki visual novel series) — debuts in 9th with 5,101 copies sold.
Here are the week's numbers in full:
- [NSW] Splatoon 3 (Nintendo, 09/09/22) – 120,564 (3,021,047)
- [NSW] NieR: Automata The End of YoRHa Edition (Square Enix, 10/06/22) – 30,218 (New)
- [NSW] Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline (Square Enix, 09/15/22) – 21,908 (188,782)
- [NSW] Mario Kart 8 Deluxe (Nintendo, 04/28/17) – 10,522 (4,865,680)
- [NSW] Minecraft (Microsoft, 06/21/18) – 6,857 (2,814,902)
- [NSW] Taiko no Tatsujin: Rhythm Festival (Bandai Namco, 09/22/22) – 6,677 (46,673)
- [PS4] Dragon Quest X: Rise of the Five Tribes Offline (Square Enix, 09/15/22) – 5,483 (67,144)
- [PS5] FIFA 23 (Electronic Arts, 09/30/22) – 5,364 (27,085)
- [NSW] Hakuouki Shinkai: Tenun no Shou (Idea Factory, 10/06/22) – 5,101 (New)
- [NSW] FIFA 23 Legacy Edition (Electronic Arts, 09/30/22) – 4,788 (16,571)
Looking at hardware sales, the Switch OLED continues to calm down following Splatoon 3 mania, though it and the original Switch model are still at the top of the pile. However, these two systems are the only ones to sell more than 10,000 units this week, with the third best-selling console — the PS5 — only managing 4,896. The Xbox Series S and X have seen a pretty big dip in particular, with the S model dropping from nearly 10k last week to less than 500 units this week.
- Switch OLED Model – 36,923 (2,762,461)
- Switch – 23,252 (18,763,433)
- PlayStation 5 – 4,896 (1,704,808)
- Switch Lite – 1,925 (4,899,684)
- PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – 649 (274,017)
- Xbox Series S – 406 (200,161)
- Xbox Series X – 391 (164,127)
- New 2DS LL (including 2DS) – 85 (1,188,862)
- PlayStation 4 – 12 (7,819,908)
We don't see Splatoon 3 losing its crown anytime soon, but with the release of Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope and Bayonetta 3 to come in the next few weeks, how will they fare amidst the ink?
As always, share your thoughts on the weekly charts in the comments below!

Nice, even though NieR is the superior game by miles.
Good to see it up there though, show them we like the $40 price tag on flawless ports and we may get more!
"Which means the game has now sold 3 million copies — that doesn't include physical sales, however."
Think this should say "doesn't include digital sales"?
"which means the game has now sold 3 million copies — that doesn't include physical sales, however. Geez."
I think you mean digital, "doesn't include digital sales"
, Sorry don't want to be a pain.
@Rob3008 , ah you just beat me to it.
About what I expected for a port of a five year old game still did decent number since 30k is still bigger then some new games launch in Japan.
Also Splatoon 3 holding the legs good with still 100k+ sales
Still 60K plus Switches in just a week is nothing to sniff at in it's 6th year.
I expect sales will explode again early November when Pokomon S/V Switch comes out.
Great going for Nier. Talking of which how did it get on in the Uk as I can’t seem to find the charts for this weeks gaming??
Yeah only because Splatoon 3 is actually a brand new game and nier is actually a port of an old one that alot of people already Played. Plus spatoon being online means there's always somebody playing. No surprise there.
Probably gonna pick up Splatoon 3 sometime this week. I was only really interested in the story mode but was holding off since I know the campaigns aren't very long. I wanted to wait until they announced that the upcoming DLC would be included in the Expansion Pass at no extra cost. But a buddy of mine at work picked up the game, and he's really enjoying it since it's his first Splatoon game. I've never really had anybody to play it online with, so I probably should get it now before he burns himself out. If it weren't for that, I'd be in no rush, since it honestly just looks like Splatoon 2 again.
I'm surprised NL hasn't aped the headline of, "69% of physical games sold in Japan last month were Splatoon 3."
So, with the Switch projected to have around a 10 year life cycle, I guess next year is a decent time for a mid gen refresh?
Pretty impressive debut numbers for Nier on Switch. It has a decent ranking in the eShop charts too, glad to see this high quality port doing well.
Props to Nier, great port.
Didn't think NieR would be up there but I'm glad it did. Probably would had been number one if it was not a port.
Terrible top 10 in my opinion. 🙄
Also, I'm concerned with PS5 sales. 😟
NieR rightfully deserves its sales. Playing through it right now and I’m falling back in love with it.
Decent launch sales for the Nier port given how old the game is.
@Eagly
When I saw the top 10 list above, it didn't look a good combination of Top 10 games I want to play despite I still like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and still keep my eyes on Dragon Quest X Offline since I have interest with Chibi design for Offline version.
I was concerning more on PS5 sales since Dragon Quest X Offline have PS5 version too but it didn't show on Top 10 games sales. Some PS5 kids games are deserved for better sales in my opinion since I have interest with PS5 kids games, the reason I want to get PS5 machine to play 3rd party multi console kids games with better performance than Switch version.
@GrailUK no shot the switch is gonna last 10 years, I give it 7
@SteamEngenius Did you have to put your opinion in there which seems more like fuel rather than anything?
I don't really care much which one of the two games you favor but I'm really wondering if it was necessary. Both are great games, Nier is a port of a years old game, makes sense why it sold 20x less.
@OnlyItsMeReid It will be in it's 7th year by the time Zelda comes out man. What are you talking about? You thinkit will just disappear after that lol?
Hat tip to the 12 people who bought a new PS4 in Japan last week.
I am genuinely surprised by the failure of the PS5 to catch on better in Japan. I know it's greatly hampered by supply chain problems and Sony's decision to prioritize USA customers, but I would think there would be stronger demand.
Xbox series s - 406 😬
That good run didn't last long.
@Eagly
Well, I want to see Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Paw Patrol Grand Prix, Kao the Kangaroo, The Smurfs Mission Vileaf at least stay on Top 10.
They are pretty good games on PS5, why peoples don't really like them very much ?
I really hope Automata continues to do well so we can get Replicant.
What is Minecraft Switch at worldwide?
Must be 20 million at this point.
@GrailUK 7 years so I’m betting on a march 2024 to maybe holiday 2024 release for the successor to the switch, so at the very least about year after
@JJtheTexan I don't think the software library has helped the PS5 much, I mean barring the name Sony on it, it's pretty much an American machine trying to break through in Japan. And if you want to break through in Japan you need to have software the Japanese want to play. Big budget western "AAA" titles are the sort of thing that vanish from their charts after about a week or two.
@WiltonRoots that's a great point. The Switch has far more of the titles that appeal to Japanese gamers. The surge in resources Square Enix has moved to Switch development is a sign of that, too.
@JJtheTexan without a doubt. Square Enix seems to be reviving loads of old Super Famicom and Playstation games on the Switch, something Sony seems to have forgotten actually existed. There’s a market for those JRPGs and people want to play them anywhere.
