After the release of promising but all too easy Transformers: Battlegrounds back in 2020, we have been wondering where those robots in disguise have disappeared to (presumably an industrial estate parking lot just off the M4). However, two years on, Battlegrounds' publisher Outright Games has announced that the engines are running on a new Transformers title to be released in 2023.
Developed by Tessera Studios (the team behind Star Trek Prodigy: Supernova) Outright is keeping schtum on the finer details at the moment, though it has said that the game will be based on the upcoming animated series, TRANSFORMERS: EARTHSPARK, which premiers in November.
The series is set to follow a new team of robots who arrive on Earth as the first of their kind. While not much to go off, we can expect the game to feature this new gang, though it is unknown whether this will take a similarly turn-based approach to the prior Battlegrounds release or aim for something new.
We can expect more details about the game itself and when we might see it come to Switch in the coming months.
What are you hoping to see in this new Transformers game? StarScream your thoughts in the comments below!

I really want a another 3d multiplayer shooter with them. i never played one but man, the transformers would be so fun in a environment like that.
I would love a port of the High moon games, easily the best Transformers games ever
Oh, another Transformers game by Outright Games?
Sign me in. 😃
@Snatcher
If you have a chance to get PS3 machine, you can hunt all of Transformers games on PS3.
Tere are seven Transformers games on PS3.
Transformers on PS2 along with the Cybertron games will always be my favourite. I can never resist playing as Optimus Prime, a shame though he doesn't say "roll out" in them though. Transformers Devastation isn't bad either.
Also:
Optimus Prime in the cartoon: there must be a peaceful way to resolve this without violence.
In the Michael Bay films: GIVE ME YOUR FACE
Cracks me up every single time 😂
There are many, many Transformers properties, but the only ones that live in my headcanon are G1 and Phase One of the IDW comics.
Still, I will give Earthspark a shot, as I do all TF endeavors. Just ... not getting my hopes up. ^_^
@RubyCarbuncle
Optimus Prime in the Marvel comics: I won in a video game, but some NPCs died, so I am going to off myself.
If this game ends up being merely a cartoon tie-in (which seems to be the case), my expectations are non-existent.
It's a real shame that most transformers games are anywhere from awful to just okay. The best ones there have ever been were war for cybertron and fall of cybertron. The third one rise of the dark spark is decent. It's kinda like the Arkham origins of the transformers games. It's not too bad but still the weakest of the series. Oh and honorable mention goes to Transformers devastation. I loved the G1 style and how it looks exactly like the 80s cartoon! I would have loved a sequel!
Someone please do this franchise justice and make a good Transformers game!
@Truegamer79 Yea, I loved Devastation!!
And 2/4 of my favorite characters were playable. Amazing!
I want the Platinum Games Transformers ported
@Anti-Matter @Snatcher I would love to see a Transformers War of Cybertron / Transformers Fall of Cybertron Remastered Bundle for Switch. Those were amazing and with the better GPU and CPU of Switch they would look and run better than on PS3 unless the devs went nuts on improving visuals at the cost of performance. Regardless those games went under the radar because by the time the PS3 actually started selling well those games were already as rare as steak tartar.
It’s practically criminal that we never got a Devastation 2 from Platinum. I’m actually replaying it on Steamdeck at the moment and it’s just as awesome as I remember. It’s a 360-era game so there’s no reason the Switch couldn’t handle it easily.
It may tie in to that new Nickelodeon show, so my hopes aren’t that high. But, who knows?
Hasbro has 4 great transformers games (armada, wfc, foc, and devastation) and its a massive missed opportunity to not have even one of them on switch or even just modern platforms
I really want to play a Transformers G1 beat em up in the style of Capcom vs Marvel 2.
Would anyone else buy that?
@TowaHerschel7 This guy gets it!
