Sonic Frontiers is easily one of the most anticipated releases of 2022, and ahead of its launch in November, players and press have been going hands-on at all sorts of events and previews.
The latest opportunity to play the game before release was at Gamescom last weekend, and as part of this, Sega has now rounded up players' reactions into a single video. A lot of them are glowing takes - with many players mentioning how much they enjoyed the gameplay, mechanics, and visuals.
When this new entry arrives on 8th November, players can expect a new open-zone experience set in a new location called Starfall Islands that's filled with new and familiar faces. Here's last week's story trailer, if you missed it:
Looking forward to trying out Sonic Frontiers? What do you think of the latest footage from Gamescom? Tell us in the comments.

The reactions seem promising! I know, I know, why would Sega post a video with negative reactions, but the game looks to have come a long way from the snippets of footage.
Also, new game category: “Speed Games”
I’m not even doubting or worrying that I will dislike the game at this point. From the moment people gave there opinions when they did the first demo, and said that the game was surprisingly good.
I think this game will do just fine, even tho the marketing on it sucked major rings.
I really wish we could get more info on how the customization options for Sonic's handling, speed, and acceleration effect the gameplay. I'd love to have Sonic's physics be similar to Unleashed/Colors/Generations in the boost stages.
@Snatcher Same, I feel like the game will be good, but the marketing definitely hasn’t been, haha. At least it’s getting a bit better recently.
Who was that new enemy?
These reactions and opinions from Gamescom players seems really promising.
It’s good to see this build is getting so many positive reactions from the public (and journalists) after what happened in June. All the new info and footage that we’ve gotten over this past week has me very excited to sink my teeth into this new adventure. Looks like fans of 3D Sonic are finally getting another win.
@Takoda There’s Definitely been an improvement. Let’s hope they keep it up.
My older brother had sonic 2 for his gamegear. That’s the only sonic game I’ve kinda played. Oh and this weird arena fighter thing I had for gameboy advance. This will be my first 3D sonic and I’m pretty excited for it. I’m impressed that I have some anticipation for a sonic game, because that’s literally never happened before. I’ve definitely thought about buying mania but dunno
Ofcourse the shown only the positive reactions. And playing a game demo of a Sega game at a Sega booth. Nobody is going to give a negative one.
Sonic Frontiers Paid Players Reactions
There, fixed it for you
Well it's not like Sega would show people slating it
Yep, knew it wouldn’t be long before someone said paid. Tbh the reactions seemed pretty genuine. Maybe I should go to one of these so I can get paid money just to say something good.
@Grim That would be sonic battle. One of those weird spin offs that I thought was surprisingly good.
Here's a little comment from SEGA's Community Manager for those who think they just plucked out the positive reactions.
"I know the immediate reaction is "oh they've handpicked the answers and cut the negatives" which would probably be my thought too but we legit just got there and talked to everyone that wanted to participate in that period of time and we included everyone in the video"
The pattern with 3D Sonic games seems to be "good-sucks-good-sucks-good-sucks".
Since Sonic Forces sucked, this will likely be good.
These people were all lying. Especially the guy who said he’s never played a 3d sonic.
I don’t think the game will suck however
@HollowSpectre yes! I think I still have the cart in my collection. I should give it a play again. Probably haven’t played it since I got my sp
@Grim Yeah it was! I played it last year and forgot how good it was for the time at least.
Looking forward to this and with Nintendo foot of the gas this Xmas. This will probably be the only game I buy this Xmas.
