Switch Online's N64 library received an update earlier on adding the Nintendo classic Wave Race 64, and also bumping the application all the way up to Version 2.6.0.
Nintendo doesn't release patch notes for these particular updates, but fortunately Nintendo dataminer OatmealDome is here once again to reveal everything going on behind-the-scenes. This month has quite a few things happening on the back end - with some adjustments to last month's release, Pokemon Puzzle League:
[NSO - Nintendo 64] Version 2.6.0 is out.
- Wave Race 64 was added.
- The NTSC, German, and PAL French versions of Pokemon Puzzle League had their renderer settings adjusted (settings related to the color framebuffer removed).
- Sorting adjusted to put PAL versions after NTSC.
In addition to this, there were some changes for the N64 application in Japan. Noticeably some changes to Custom Robo V2 and also the Fanta advertisements in Wave Race 64 being replaced with an N64 logo.
Meanwhile, in Japan, there were some additional changes. Notably, it looks like the Fanta advertisements were removed in Wave Race 64.
Dataminer and Nintendo Life user LuigiBlood goes into a bit more detail:
N64 Switch Online 2.6.0:
- Pokémon Puzzle League has seen removed config and updated PCB and NRO (recompiled code). Probably a fix for something.
- Custom Robo V2 has updated PCB and NRO.
- Wave Race 64 Rumble Pak (Japan) has replaced Fanta advertisements with Nintendo 64 logo.
This latest update follows on from some changes in Version 2.4.0. You can learn more in our previous coverage.
What do you think of the latest batch of adjustments that come with Version 2.6.0? Noticed anything yourself? Have you tried out the Expansion Pack service yet? Leave a comment down below.

I guess they don't wanta wanta fanta.
@HIGHscores85 Thank you, that commercial played in my head right away! Lol
As for the Fanta ads, were those present in the original Wave Race 64 Shindou Pak Taihou Version? I was always under the assumption they weren't.
@HammerGalladeBro Well the files that contain replaced textures are all called Fanta and are only in Wave Race 64 Shindou Pak Taihou on NSO
Waverace looks and plays great. Is there any console better than the N64? I think not.
Wanna fanta? Don’tcha wanna?
Monkey Ball on Switch just isn't the same without the Dole banana advertising.
Next month will be interesting since that has been the month in the past where they announce new systems for their Retro Subscription line up.
Sooooo........maybe Gameboy finally?
@mereel It was the best of consoles, and it was the worst of consoles
No added filter options for snes yet? 💔😔
@Bucky Great way to describe the 64 honestly.
@BinaryMessiah I would have to kindly disagree. There are too many games to list in this post. I enjoyed N64 day one and it is still my favorite console. Yeah the graphics are a bit dated now but the gameplay is bar none.
@BinaryMessiah not to knock the GameCube, but my list for weakest Nintendo systems would put that one below the Wii U, then the Nintendo 64.
There were more N64s sold than the GameCubes too, it was the first time Nintendo barely got across the 20 million mark. The Wii U holds the crown now.
I’d say the GameCube had way more games than the N64, but I would argue quality was lacking compared to the system it replaced. The 64 was still pretty popular with the PS1 in terms of brand and marketing, the GameCube (and OG Xbox for that matter) were overshadowed by the dominant PS2.
While I never owned a N64, I had fonder memories with it than I did with my GameCube. Mario 64, Star Fox 64, Goldeneye and so many others I could list that were memorable. For the GC, it was Luigi’s Mansion, Zelda Wind Waker, Metroid Prime, Resident Evil 4 and other exclusive games. Otherwise, my PS2 had all the stuff I really wanted to play then. I agree with @TenEighty.
Ah, Fanta. Good times, good times.
WaveRace baby!! WOOOOOO!!!
@mereel Almost all the Nintendo consoles are better than the N64.
@mereel
PlayStation One for me.
Although the 64 is a good console in its own right.
Well I’d say they excelled at two different things.
For multiplayer, N64 trounced the PlayStation and it’s library.
For single player, PlayStation all the way. Couldn’t play Final Fantasy Tactics or Syphon Filter on N64.
@HIGHscores85 I guess I wanna Fanta because I just got some What the Fanta flavor Fanta.
@Ryu_Niiyama I remember being disappointed when Coke swapped out Minute Maid Orange Soda for Fanta.
Wow, I feel old now thinking how many years ago that was.
Been awhile since I had either I forget if I'd rather Orange Crush instead.
@Ryu_Niiyama I guess not.
@KingMike I am kinda opposite. I’m not a fan of fruit soda but tried orange fanta and nutella when I went to Rome as a young teenager. Neither product had released in my area of the US so my widdle mind was blown. The rare times I have orange soda it’s always fanta.
@progx GC did have better third-party support so I put that above the N64. You can have all the first-party exclusives you want, but without good third-party support, your system is basically KIA. The Wii U proved that.
