Geoff Keighley, the host of Gamescom Opening Night Live, has announced there'll be a "world premiere" for Sega's upcoming "open-zone" title Sonic Frontiers at this year's event.
The opening night is taking place on 23rd August. This year's event is a two hour show with over 30+ games on display. And yes, even though that other reveal happened, it seems this is an all-new one!
If you're wondering about the artwork above, Sega previously confirmed it was real:
Sonic Frontiers will also be playable to the public at EGX London this September. This will be the first time the game has been playable to the public within the UK.
Sonic Frontiers is scheduled to launch in holiday 2022 across all platforms including the Nintendo Switch. What are you hoping to see from the Gamescom ONL world premiere? Comment down below.

gotta reveal fast
Sega's just gonna act like that first world premiere never actually happened then, huh
God finally! I need to see this amazing gameplay everyone’s been talking about! Sure wish I could have played it tho.
I like the attitude in that render I wish the actual game animations were like that.

Going off their bizzaro PR plan for the game it will be a world premiere…………. Interview with Iizuka where he talks about how great this game without showing any new gameplay footage.
Remember that time Sega was pumping to reveal something big then all of a sudden it's just meh in the end. Hopefully this is not like that. I remember Sega was revealing something exciting Dreamcast related last week only for them to disappoint in the end. Spawn Wave had all the details.
I get the feeling this ‘open-zone’ was to compromise for a game full of unique ideas and variety because Sega sees the franchise as little more than a brand with some meme tropes
I hope they reveal the free unity assets they copy pasted.
Wait… how is this a world premiere, if we already saw many (unimpressive) videos of this game already?
Hopefully this will be the premiere of some actually good looking gameplay.
Doubtful.
With the way most of the marketing for this game seems to be talking up how good the games coming out AFTER it will be that doesn't exactly make me hopeful.
A Sonic open world game does sound like it'll probably be hilariously glitchy though.
Let's see if they'll show us some exciting, thrilling Big the Cat Fishing gameplay
Please quote me on this:. Sonic Frontiers will be awful. It will be full of more bugs and issues than Sonic 06. It will be the lowest rated Sonic game ever.
I have zero faith in Sonic Team pulling this off
@steventonysmith
Doesn't matter. Sonic is still very popular. As long as you keep his design, people will buy everything with Sonic on it.
@RareFan
Don't tell Sonic Boom or Forces that because their poor sales will make them feel bad
@steventonysmith
Forces actually sold very well, according to SEGA at least.
If it's Classic Sonic again I'm not interested.
@RareFan
The funny thing is they never reported the numbers after the first week which was only on the hundreds of thousands
Just watch, they will reveal that pre-orders will come with content where you could play with a Kazuma Kiryu or Monkey Ball skin or some ***** like that.... Actually Kiryu going really fast conjures a hilarious mental image....
Oh boy I don't feel excited for this I just don't want to be another Sonic 06 disaster and Sega doesn't have good track record of Sonic games. Please be good for the fans sake.
@RareFan
So popular that his games aren't really purchased, but sure. Mario can release a soccer game and sell more in the first month than a new Sonic game can sell in a year.
