The mobile racer Mario Kart Tour is fast approaching its third anniversary, so what's Nintendo got planned? According to an update via its social channels as well as an in-game notification, the game will be receiving a multiplayer update in September.
Not only will add it "new ways to play" but it'll also be removing Gold Races, which are currently locked off to Gold Pass subscribers. The modes Standard Race and Gold Race will be combined, and several other changes are also scheduled for this update.
So what else can players expect? GameXplain speculates a battle mode could potentially on the way. This mode has previously been datamined. Of course, there's no official confirmation about anything like this.
This update for Mario Kart Tour, follows on from the recent release of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe's Wave 2 DLC - adding in the brand new course Sky-High Sundae, which is out in Mario Kart Tour this week.

A port of some kind?
I love this game for its amazing roster and point system. I don’t even find 8D exciting to play as it lacks combos and point system, as well as strategies about investments in certain drivers, karts and gliders.
No way this isn't battle mode, datamines have found quite a bit regarding its implementation as of late
I wonder if they'll bring its maps over to 8 Deluxe as well?
Some form of controller support would be nice.
Does it include sharing all the nice characters and costumes with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe though?
@antonio2244 I agree, this game received the same treatment as any other Mario Kart, as a result it feels like the next iteration in the series. Mario Kart 8 was great back in 2014 but it has aged, DX was not only unnecessary but got the series stuck. Tour is, in mobile shape, what MK9 would had been on Switch.
If they add battle mode I want a battle courses pass for mk8dx. Or better add them for free for those who buy the booster pack.
I wish they'd do the course thing the other way around, bring the courses/characters and such to MK8D first, then tone them down for mobile... but sadly we don't live in that world
Didn't they say in some patch notes that they were adding a 100 player racing mode? But it would be added later on?
Maybe it's that
Controller support please
@antonio2244 I agree. I like 8 but love MKTours points and combos system
@Yosher as a MKT and MK8 fan I’d love to share with you. It’s just wether Nintendo wants to sadly
@SilverM yes that’s a good idea. I need Block Fort HD!
@HugoGED I absolutely agree! The next game is Mario Kart 10 for sure!
+1 for controller support, I'd love to see it added as my backbone one lightning controller has turned my iPhone into a gaming handheld!
Surprised nobody in the history of the internet has mentioned this but the game has microtransactions.
I'm surprised about taking out Gold Races. I wonder with what they will replace them. Battle mode may be the next thing coming who knows.
@antonio2244 Indeed! As much as I like MK8D, I'm getting tired of it. MKT is the newest Mario Kart and until they release 9/10 in Switch 2 or whatever, this will fix my MK needs. It's fun and addictive.
Hopefully they'll add controller support
fingers crossed that they port it to Switch or PC
Well that sounds cool but it would be nice if I could actually login under my username and not the bs one I was forced to create which caused me to start the entire game over
