Developer Nonohara Works has announced Calme, an isometric adventure game that kind of reminds us of the likes of Ni No Kuni and Octopath Traveler in terms of its art direction.
It's heading to the Switch, but you better get comfortable, because the game is in the very early stages of development and allegedly won't be available until some time after 2024.
Here's some official info on the game's premise:
The story takes place in a small cliff town named “Calme”. At the bottom of the cliff is the horizon of a cloud sea that never clears. Above the cliffs is a haze far off in the distance. In this town, echoes with the lively shouts of Cloudsea hunters. What is the truth behind the mysterious cloud sea and the town? This is the story of the unique inhabitants of this harsh but beautiful cliff town.
You can check out the official website right now, but chances are we won't be getting any substantial updates on this project for quite some time. Still, the early footage looks pretty promising!

The art style looks like it's been taken straight from Bravely Default. The main character even looks like Tiz!
I've already played one game that was meant to be like ni no kuni and that was a massive disappointment, so I won't pay too much attention to this one until I see reviews
@UltimateOtaku91 Ni No Kuni 2??
@Olliemar28 Ni No kuni 2 had great characters and story and I liked the town building, just wished they kept the creature collecting and battle style of the first game.
P.S. I was referring to Baldo
It looks great, but I learned my lesson from Baldo, and I will WAIT FOR REVIEW.
Reminds me of how this site's writers say every single game with a hand-drawn style reminds them of Studio Ghibli.
I wouldn't mind a physical and CE version.
Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes this looks goooood!!
Bravely Default with 3D town.
I agree with TheRealKyleHyde, that's just Tiz
@UltimateOtaku91 I didn't like Ni No Kuni, so maybe that makes me more likely to want to try Calme! I really really wanted to like Ni No Kuni too. It looks beautiful, and the music is by one of my favourite composers.
@AlexHarford which ni no kuni was it you played and what didn't you like about it
To me looks like Bravely default with NiNuKun and Studio Ghilbi squashed together.
@UltimateOtaku91 The first one. It started to drag after 2-3 hours, and I felt it was wasting my time. Little things like the sequence after every battle (and I'm not generally a fan of turn-based battles anyway). It felt clunky too.
It's just Bravely Default. There's nothing that remotely resembles Octopath or Ni No Kuni.
Looks gorgeous. Hope it’s a straight up adventure & not bogged down with RPG mechanics like so many adventure games
@iambowl
Baldo has been improved massively via patches. It's actually a good game now.
